Burkart,
Elizabeth Ann, [Beth] passed away
on May 21, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Boynton Beach, Florida after
a short
illness. She was 91 years old.
Beth and her late husband, bob,

youngest
children, Jay and Laurie. Bob purchased
47 acres of undeveloped land on Skeenah Gap Road, which he proceeded to
develop

tent, and then the family moved into a mobile home on site while he
built their
house. Bob put in a saw mill and
produced lumber for sale and for his own use.
He later worked as a building contractor and developer,
purchasing other
property in the area. Beth assisted him
with the business, in addition to her volunteer work at the senior
center where
she served meals and helped to raise funds by quilt making and other
crafts. A cedar log cabin, garden, trout
ponds and outbuildings were added over the years. The
property continues in use as a family
retreat.
Beth and Bob were founding members
of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic parish in Blairsville.
They were part of a small group of
pioneer families who helped erect the original building, since replaced. They both remained active in the parish since
its founding where Beth was known for her delicious desserts and Bob
for his
singing abilities. Bob died in 1994 and
is buried in the St. Clare Memory Garden on the church grounds. Bob and Beth made many good friends in North
Georgia who will remember them fondly.
