Maxine A. Ryder, 53, of Blairsville, GA, died June 8, 2002, at Blake Medical Center.  Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Ave. Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.  A private burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Manatee County, 2515 14th St. W., Bradenton, FL 34205, or Florida United Methodist Childrens Home, P.O. Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728.

Born in Goodrich, Mich., Miss Ryder came to Manatee County 48 years ago.  She was a registered nurse.  She was Protestant.  She served in the Army.

Survivors include a sister, Donna Swartz Moreland of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Rod Swartz of Bradenton; and her parents, Vance and Wilma Ryder, of Bradenton and also, Blairsville, GA.

myra june mcharg schuette

 

Myra June Schuette, age 55, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, June 21, 2002, at her home, following an extended illness.

Myra was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Tuesday, December 24, 1946, a daughter of Thomas McHarg and Frances Duncan McHarg.  She was a homemaker and had lived in the Blairsville area for the past 1 and 1/2 years, coming here from Auburndale, Florida.  She was a member of Providence Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Tom Schuette of Blairsville and Tracy Schuette of Auburndale, Florida; a grandchild, Sylvan Schuette also survives, along with other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 29, 2002, at 2:00 PM, from Providence Methodist Church, with Rev. Chuck Gillespie and Dr. John Kay officiating.  Special music will be presented by Eric Lynn.  The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jimmy Conner, Michael Vann, John Hill, B.J. Lewis, Tim Moore, and Tim Orr.  Interment will be in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.  Visitation at the funeral home will be after 6 pm, Friday, June 28, 2002, with the family especially meeting with friends on Friday evening, from 6-9 PM

rev. tom smith

 

Rev. Tom Smith, 94, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2002 at his home following an extended illness.

Rev. Smith was born in White County, Georgia, on Tuesday, October 29, 1907, a son of the late Dillard Smith and Viney Brookshire Smith.  Rev. Smith had lived in Marietta, Georgia during the years of 1928-1961.  In his lifetime, he served as pastor for 57 years.  During the years, he served as pastor for Sardis Baptist Church, Hill Street Baptist Church, New Salem Baptist Church, and Lakeview Baptist Church.  Rev. Smith moved to Blairsville in 1951, and served as pastor for Choestoe Baptist Church, Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Old Union Baptist Church, and Antioch Baptists Church.  At the time of his passing, Rev. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Dyer Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Virgil Elliott, all of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bob Aiola, of Powder Springs; seven grandchildren: Donnie Elliott and Kenny Aiola, both of Marietta; Pam Parker, of Blairsville; Kristi Barber, of Douglasville; Teresa Brown, of Powder s Springs; Linda Cudihy, of Crawfordville, FL; and Cindy Morgan of Dallas, GA; 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 22, 2002, at 11 AM from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Danny Parris and Rev. Henry Loggins officiating.  Specially selected music was presented by Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper, Debbie Owenby, and Patsy Davenport.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Charles Jenkins, Bill Lewis, Joe Satterfield, Harold Dyer, Charles McClue, and David Parker.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Russ Crawford, Cecil Lance, and J.B. Watson.  Interment was in Kennesaw Memorial Park, on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 3:30, with Rev. Virgil Elliott officiating.

anna may shelton

 

Anna May Shelton, age 72, of Cozy Cove Road, Blairsville, GA, died, Friday, June 21, 2002 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, GA.

She was a native of Union County, Georgia and had worked and retired from Levi Strauss.  She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Union County, GA.  She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Bessie Mae Thompson Shelton and was preceded in death by one son, Charles Brewer.

She is survived by two brothers, Ray and his wife, Joyce Shelton of Blairsville, GA, and Bill Shelton of Sugar Hill, GA; three sisters, Mary Thompson of Murphy, NC, Marie Brinkerhoff of Detroit, MI, and Darene Hodge of Ocala, FL; several nieces and nephews and a special niece Linda Foster of Blairsville, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 24, 2002 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.  Rev. Randy Hughes will officiate.  Burial will be in the Bethany Cemetery in Union County, GA.  Pallbearers will be Danny Thompson, David Gentry, Steve Foster, David Foster, Earl Shelton and Roy Shelton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, June 23, 2002 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.
