mr. cecil c. davis

 

Mr. Cecil C. Davis, age 60, of Blairsville, GA passed away Tuesday evening, June 20, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Davis was born in Towns County, April 12, 1940, a son of Fred and Lula Mae Phillips Davis.  He had lived in this area all of his life and was a member of the Owltown Church of God.  His occupation was automobile mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; daughters, Kim Stroud and Lee Seabolt and sons, Tony Davis and Robbie Davis, all of Blairsville; eight grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 am, Thursday, June 22, 2000 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Jones officiating.  Music was provided by the New Life Singers.

sally ann waters smith

 

Mrs. Sally Ann Waters Smith, age 26 of Blairsville formerly of Copperhill, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2000 at her home following a brief illness.  Mrs. Smith was born on January 30, 1974 in Copperhill, NT the daughter of Charles James Waters and Rosa Robinson Waters.  She was preceded in death by her father, Charles James Waters in 1996.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Chad Smith of Blairsville; one daughter, Emily K. Puckett of Ranger, NC; mother, Rosa Robinson of Ranger; paternal grandfather, Jessie Waters of Ducktown; maternal grandmother, Donna Robinson of Riptman, OH; two sisters, Jessica Waters of Murphy, Amanda Kitchen of Gastonia, NC; one brother, Charles James Waters II of Murphy; mother-in-law, Harriett Smith of Blue Ridge; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at 1 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Brock land Rev. Roger Hyatt officiating.  Special music was presented by Mrs. Carol Hyatt.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Brandon Brown, Jason Brown, Chester Rogers, Roger Guffy, Butch Tallwell, and David Spiller.  Interment followed in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Turtletown, TN.

mrs. joan chaney

 

Mrs. Joan Chaney, age 71, of Blairsville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000 at her home following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Chaney was born Monday, May 13, 1929 in Pinellas, Co., FL, a daughter of Charles Harry and Sally Belle Dawson.  She had purchased her home here in 1977 and later moved here from College Park, GA.  She was of the Methodist faith and attended First United Methodist Church of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn McCollum Chaney in 1998.

Surviving are two first cousins, Hazel Martin of St. Petersburg, FL, and Betty Davis of Iverness, FL, and a cousin, Geraldine Moates of Newington, GA.

Funeral services were held at 3 pm Sunday, June 25, 2000 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, Blairsville, GA with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Special music was by John Gurley.  Serving as pallbearers were Bruce Stewart, Myron Turner, Marvin Hernden, Tim Strike, Paul Colditz and Ronald Taylor.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

charlotte eloise giles

 

Mrs. Charlotte Eloise Giles, age 66, of Blairsville, GA passed away Friday, June 23, 2000 at Blue Ridge Health Care, Blue Ridge, GA.

Mrs. Giles was born Wednesday, August 23, 1933 in Union County, GA a daughter of James L. and Ethel Shell Nichols.  She had lived most of her life in this area and was a member of New Union Baptist Church.  She was an inspector in shoe manufacturing.

Surviving are her husband, Rodney Giles of Blairsville; father, James L. Nichols of Covington, GA; brothers, Joseph J. Nichols of Covington, GA and Danny Nichols of Acworth, GA; a sister, Rebecca Ann Prater of Grundy, VA.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 25 at 2 pm from the New Union Baptist Church with Rev. Harrison Bradley officiating.  Special music was provided by Mrs. Gloria Griggs.  Serving as pallbearers were Junior Carney, Frank Nichols, David Nichols, Charles Brand, James Bray and Ned Wilcoxon.  Interment was in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
