velma l. moose

 

Mrs. Velma L. Moose, age 71, of Dahlonega, GA died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA following a period of declining health.

Born August 11, 1934 in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Audrey Pickelsimer Mulkey.  A former resident of Suches,, GA, Mrs. Moose had lived 37 years in Lumpkin County.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt.  Pleasant Baptist Church #2 in Suches.  She was preceded in death by her husband Claude H. Moose and a brother, Earl Mulkey.

Survivors include, daughters and son-in-law, Rachael and George Stinson of Dahlonega, GA, and Rebecca Tritt of Dahlonega, GA; grandsons, Andy Tritt, Damian Stinson, and Adrian Stinson; great-grandson, Devin Tritt; sister, & brother-in-law, Myrtle and Vaughn Ricketts of Dahlonega, GA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the McKinney Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Allison and Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating.  Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 Cemetery in Suches, GA.

The family received friends at the funeral home all day on Saturday. 

In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so, may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.

Raymond gerald hill

 

Mr. Raymond Gerald Hill, age 60, of Morganton, Georgia, went to be with his Lord Thursday, June 15, 2006, following a brave fight with cancer.

Raymond was born Sunday, August 5, 1945, in Union County, GA to the late Vasco Hill and the late Estie Young Hill.  Raymond loved God, his family, and church, and he enjoyed his work.  Raymond was owner and operator of Hill’s Concrete Statuary and a was member and Deacon of Appalachia Baptist Church.

Survivors include: wife, Pauline (Ledford) Hill of Morganton, GA; son, Raymond Gerald Hill, Jr. of Morganton; daughter & son-9n-law, Angie & Chuck Key of Morganton; grandchildren Emily and Elizabeth key of Morganton; brother, Buddy Hill of Lexington, GA; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 18, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Appalachia Baptist Church with the Dr. James Woody, Dr. Gary Parris, and Reverend Chan Mitchell officiating.  Music was provided by Valerie Taylor, and Debra Cochran.  Interment followed in Morganton Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Dr. George Gowder, Clyde Cruse, Bill Rush, Michael Campbell, Bency Turner, and Frank Tipton.  Honorary pallbearers included: All Deacons of Appalachia Baptist Church, Leon Davenport, and Tom Swartz.

leila gibbs lamb bissonette

 

Mrs. Leila Gibbs Lamb Bissonette, age 98, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Bissonette was born Saturday, July 27, 1907 in Jefferson County, New York, to the late Charles Gibbs and the late Henrrietta Gibbs.  Mrs. Bissonette was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  She had lived in this area since 1997, moving here from Eustis, FL.  Mrs. Bissonette was a former member of Seminole Heights United Methodist Church of Tampa, FL.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Elwyn Lamb and second husband, Samuel Bissonette.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Glenwood and Anne lamb of Waynesville, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Eugene Copeland of Tampa, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Rev. William “Bill” Earnest of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren: Lisa Anne Wozniak, Nancy Leigh Skaff, Glenda Grace Finkelstein, Kim Elizabeth Anderson, and William Wilson Earnest, Jr.; 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 Foster children also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 1 a.m. from the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville with the Rev. William “Bill” Earnest officiating.  Music was provided by Minister R. Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers for the funeral services in Blairsville: Homer Thomasson, Doug Davenport, Hatch Hatchell, David Collie, Harold Smithson, and Lyles Hester.  Funeral services and burial were held in Tampa, FL, on Friday, June 23, 2006, with Garden of memories Funeral Home in charge of services there.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers in Florida: Gene Rogers, Dennis Lamb, Lynn Fussell, Willie Croy, Aaron Finkelstein, and Buddy Taylor.

In lie of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Blairsville, Building Fund, P.O. Box 2058, Blairsville, GA 30514.

willard payne

 

Mr. Willard Payne, age 81, of Blairsville, passed away on Monday June 19, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Payne was born on Sept. 4, 1924 in Union County, the son of the late William Bunyon Payne and the late Laura Cook Payne.  Mr. Payne was a machinist by trade.  He also was an ordained minister for over fifty years and had pastured several local churchs over the years.  He was a Veteran of the US Army of WWII.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Payne was a member of pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Payne are two daughters and one son-in-law, Jo-Lynne Ford of Hiawassee, Karen and Paul Rogers of Ranger, NC, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Willard Payne of Buford, GA, Skip and Melonie Payne of Blairsville, Paul and Tracy Gertcher of St. Helen, MI, two sisters, Luther Payne of Blairsville, Everett Payne of Murphy, NC, two sisters, Myrtle Cook of Blairsville and Vesta Stroup of Blairsville, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday June 21, 2006 at 2 pm from the Pleasant Hill BAPTIST Church with the Rev. Guy Bradley and Rev. Brian Payne officiating.  Special music was presented by Lita Gowder.  The body laid in-state at the church from 1:30-3 pm prior to the service.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Ben Collins, Kevin Payne, Brian Payne, Joshua Rogers, Michael Payne, Stephen Payne, Justin Collins and Cody Shook.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Chad Shook, Chase Shook, Korey Duckworth, Kalvin Duckworth, Enoch Christopher, Craig Jones and Logan Burt.  Interment followed in the church cemetery with the North GA. Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.

truman ike chambers

 

Mr. Truman Ike Chambers, age 56, of Glen Wood Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday, June 23, 2006 in Fannin County from injuries received in a farming accident.  Mr. Chambers was born on June 4, 1950 in Towns County.  The son of the late Carlos J. Chambers and the late Lucille Ross Chambers.  He was a veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  Mr. Chambers was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Chambers are one daughter, Cheryl Crawford of Alpharetta; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty and Burch Crawford of Blairsville, Elaine and Johnny Nichols of Blairsville; two nieces, Shannon Gibson of Hayesville, Emily Priebe of Blairsville; nephew, Jerry Nichols of Hayesville; one granddaughter, Claudia Crawford; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 7 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.  Special music was presented by the faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pall-bear-ers, Burch Crawford, Jerry Nichols, Eugene McClure, Jimmy McClure, Jackie Abercrombie, Rex Odom, and Jason Harper.  Interment and graveside services followed on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery.

minnie mae guffey

 

Mrs. Minnie Mae Guffey, age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at her residence.

Mrs. Guffey was born Monday, may 2, 1921 in Graham County, North Carolina, to the late Bill Jordan and Floria Owens Jordan.  She was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Loyd Guffey; brothers: Vic, Mack and Roy Jordan; sisters: Ethel Rose and Farie Jordan.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, James Mack and Evelyn Guffey; son & daughter-in-law, jack and Christine Guffey; daughter, Sharon Poulos; daughter & son-in-law, Ellen and Perry Nix; sister, Bonnie McCollum; all of Blairsville, GA, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers: Melba Mulky, Shirley Mitchell and Felisha Kirby.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Jenkins, Rev. Waymon Lovell and Rev. Gary Guffey officiating.  Music was provided by The Kelly Trio.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens cemetery.  Pallbearers were James Kirby, Jr., Jonathan Kirby, jack Guffey, Thomas Poulos, Nicholas Poulos, Terrance Taylor, Darrell Guffey, and Greg Guffey.
