robert (bob) garrison

 

            Robert (Bob) Garrison of Blairsville, GA passed away June 18, 2011 from an extended illness.  Bob was born September 30, 1948 in Live Oak, FL and grew up there.  In 1969, he entered the US Army and flew helicopters.  Returning from VietNam in 1970, he married, finished college at UF, then joined the US Navy.  Making the military a career, he flew Reconnaissance and Attack jets.  Retiring in 1991 at Lt. Commander, he and his family moved to Blairsville where he worked for the Georgia Mountain Experiment Station for 6 years, then taught Agriculture at Woody Gap High School for 7 years. 

Bob was also very involved in the community serving in the Kiwanis club, the Lake Nottely Improvement Association, and the Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, riding his horse or his Gold Wing, and just being with family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Lou Garrison, of Live Oak.  He is survived by his wife, Sheila Carter Garrison, previously of Live Oak; 3 children: Joshua Garrison, Micah Garrison, and Abbey and Ryan Glattli, all of Blairsville; six grandchildren: Lance, Morgan, Luke and Emma Garrison, Madison and Ashlyn Glattli.  Also surviving are his father, Enoch Garrison, Jr.; four brothers: Enoch III (Garry) and Myra Garrison, David Garrison, Pal Garrison and Don Garrison; one sister, Ann Garrison, along with several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services were held on June 22nd at Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Also speaking were Sonny Mahan and Josh Garrison.  Music was provided by Rachel Todd and the House of Prayer Choir.  Interment was held at the House of Prayer Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard presiding.

            The family would like to thank all of our friends and extended family for your prayers and support during this difficult time.

wade robert mason

 

Mr. Wade Robert Mason, age 81, of Buford, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Kindred Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Mr. Mason was born in Blairsville, on October 31, 1929, a son of the late Harlan Mason and the late Aileen Towery Mason.  He had lived in the Atlanta area since 1961, and attended First Baptist Church of Atlanta.

He will be missed by and is lovingly remembered by his family: his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Grizzle Mason, of Buford; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Kathryn Mason, of Buford and Gregory and Kay Mason, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; five grandchildren: David, Andrew, Melissa, Amy, and Will Mason; great granddaughter, Hayleigh Mason.

Mr. Mason’s funeral services were held on Monday, June 27, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with burial following in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Visitation at the funeral home was held on Sunday evening, June 26, 2011, beginning at 5 p.m., with the family especially meeting with friends from 5 until 7 p.m.

vivian krick hill

 

            Vivian Krick Hill, of Blairsville, GA and Delray Beach FL, died May 27th in Delray Beach.  Vivian was born August 17, 1933 in Bryn Mawr, PA.  She graduated from William and Mary College 1955, receiving the Chi Omega award for sociology.  Upon retirement, Vivian and her husband Roger moved to Blairsville in 1991, and split their time between Lake Nottley and south Florida.  Vivian was a civic leader in Chatham Township, NJ, where she and Roger raised their 3 children.  She served as the Deputy Mayor for that town for many years.  In Blairsville, Vivian was active with several area churches and enjoyed delivering meals on wheels, tutoring children, and participating in book and bible (sic) studies.  She and her husband, Roger, were generous supporters of the old Court House restoration project.

She is survived by her husband Roger, her brother Charles Krick of Blairsville, her children: Polly Tevald of Chester NJ, Dan Hill of Culpeper, VA and Mary Gowing of Atlanta, and 4 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations can be made to the Vivian K. Hill scholarship Fund-CCM Foundation, County College of Morris, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph, NJ, 07869 or to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.

audrey woody tritt

 

            Mrs. Audrey Woody Tritt, age 86, of Suches, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at her home with her loving family at her bedside.

Mrs. Tritt was born September 22, 1924 in Fannin County, GA.  She lived most of her life in Suches, GA.  Audrey and her husband, Howard, owned and operated Tritt’s Country Store in Suches for over 50 years.  Audrey was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches.

She was the daughter of the late Jack and Laura Cook Woody and was also preceded in death by brothers, Jackie Woody and Merle Woody; sisters, Mariam Cruse, Azalea Thomason, Pauline Gooch, and Ann Campbell; son-in-law, Ned White.  

            Audrey is survived by her husband of 70 years, Howard Tritt, Suches, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Carol and Ned Gooch, Suches, Linda White, Suches; sister, Betty Moose, Sharpsburg, GA; grandchildren and spouses, Tommy and Susan White, “Mimi” White, Patrick and Tiffany White, Laura Gooch; great-grandchildren, Hannah White, Haley White, Cameron White, and Lydia White.  Numerous other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services were held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 28,2 011 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist church in Suches with Rev. Clarence Drummond officiating.

            Interment followed in the church cemetery.

            Mrs. Tritt lay in state at the church from 10 AM until 11 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

            The family received friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 5 PM until 9 PM.

rodney carroll giles

 

Mr. Rodney Carroll Giles, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in Heritage Health Care in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

He was born in Richwood, WV, on Sunday, December 14, 1930, a son of the late Arthur and the late Naomi Giles.  Mr. Giles had served in the U.S. Air Force.  Preceding him in death was his wife, Charlotte Nichols Giles; his parents here sisters: Fay Scott (A.C.), Billie Clifton, and Betty Giles; two brothers, Gary Giles and Kent Giles.

He is survived by family members: there brothers and sisters-in-law: Norris and Glenna Giles; Zane and Betty Giles; George and Sharon Giles; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Patsey and Sam Colando, Kay and Mix Paumier, and Yvonna and Harry Gaydos; brother-in-law, Daniel Nichols; two sisters-in-law, Ione Giles and Ellie Giles; and a nephew, Adam Clifton; several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Giles were held on Friday, June 24, 2011, at 10 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Harrison Bradley officiating.  Burial was in New Union Baptist church Cemetery with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.  Visitation at the funeral home was held Thursday night, at the funeral home, from 6 until 9 p.m.

william “bill” c. foster

 

            William “Bill” C. Foster, age 78 of Vicksburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.  Bill was born on May 24, 1933.  He is the son of William “Bob” and Ella Ree (Wilson) Foster.  He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1951, in Blairsville, GA.  After high school Bill joined the Air Force and proudly served his country in the Korean War.  Bill married the love of his life Darlene Yates on September 3, 1954 in Pascagoula, MS.  He worked for many paper mills around the Kalamazoo area, before becoming a proud independent truck driver.  Most important to Bill was his family and friends.  He took great pride in being a family man.

The family received friends on Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapman Memorial Nazarene Church.  Funeral services were held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the same location.  Burial was at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Bill’s family includes his wife of 57 years, Darlene; three children, Debbie (Jim) Hnilo, of Scotts; Jeff (Karen) Foster, of Vicksburg; Steve (Joy) Foster, of GA; three grandchildren, Andy Foster, Cory Hnilo, Erica Hnilo, all of Vicksburg.  He is also survived by his three siblings Charles (Pinky) Foster, of IL, Faye (Ralph) Dayhuff, of TN, Donald foster, of TN and a special niece, Julie Downey, of Mt. Clements and someone he thought of as a daughter, Rhonda Mahan, of Blairsville, GA.  Preceded in death age by his brothers, Edmund Foster, Bobby Foster, Jim Foster.
