eugene edley burnette

 

Mr. Eugene Edley Burnette, age 67, of Burnette Road in Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2004 in Union General Hospital, following a sudden illness.  Mr. Burnette was born on November 8, 1936 in Union County, the son of the late Edley Burnette and the late Alvia McHaffey Burnette.  Mr. Burnette had retired from the Department of Natural Resources in 1993.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force.  Preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Sosebee in 2001, Mr. Burnette was a member of the Young Cane Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and was a member and Deacon of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Burnette is his loving wife, Wanda Blackmon Burnette of Blairsville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Vickie and David Sawfford of Logansville, GA., Sandra Cook of Blairsville; four sisters, Alwaine Hudson of Duluth, GA., Wanda Brothy of Tucker, GA., Norma Jean George of Stone Mountain, GA., Bonnie Jean Dills, of Lawrenceville, GA; six brothers, Thomas Lee Burnette of Jefferson, GA., Frank Burnette of Cummings, GA., Richard Burnette of Dublin, GA., Gerald Burnette of Milledgeville, GA., Junior Burnette and David Burnette, both of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler Swafford, Justin and Jacob Cook; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services was held on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Worth Chastain officiating.  Special music will be presented by Erica Burnette.  The following gentlemen were Pallbearers: George, Bill and Greg Burnette, Jonathan Dills, Eddie George and Allen Sosebee.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the DNR and the Union County Sheriff’s Department.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors and Young Cane Lodge F&AM conducting Masonic graveside rites.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

james albert lovell

 

James (better known as Jim) Albert Lovell, age 67, of West Union Road., Young Harris, GA., passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2004 in the Union General Hospital, following an extended illness.  Mr. Lovell was born on May 27, 1937 in Union County, the son of the late Watson Lovell and the late Ruby Barrett Lovell.  He had retired from the Blue Ridge Mountain EMC with over thirty four years of service.  He was a lifelong resident of Union and Towns Counties.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert, Herbert, Ernest and Vaughn Lovell; a sister and brother-in-law, Clarice and J.C. Nichols.  Mr. Lovell was a member of Stephens Masonic Lodge #441 and was a member and Deacon of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Lovell is his loving wife of forty seven years, Vivian Nichols Lovell of Young Harris; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Kelly Lovell of Young Harris; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie Powell of Young Harris, Alisa and Joffery Richards of Young Harris; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Brenda E. and Junior Burnette of Blairsville, Shirley Lovell of Young Harris, Peggy Garrett of Cleveland; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Waymon and Patricia Lovell of Blairsville, Frank and Sue Lovell of Gainesville, Donald and Debbie Lovell of Niceville, FL; nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Shook and Rev. David Berrong officiating.  Special music was presented by Nola and Willy Nichols, Shirley Grizzle, Charlie Fair and Rachell Barns.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Charles Barrett, Richard Nichols, Tommy Lovell, Brian Underwood, Ray Brown, Brent Shook, Carroll Dotson and Jerry Shook.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were: A.J. Silvey, Corky Deavers, Fred Shook, Jimmy Anderson, T.J. Anderson, Buford Duckworth, Kenneth Hall, Earl Roberts and Jackie Sellers, Members of the Georgia State Patrol along with Towns County officers.  Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Stephens Lodge #441 F&AM.  Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

Mrs. lela s. metcalf

 

Mrs. Lela Stalcup Metcalf, age 91, of Blairsville, GA., passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at her home.

 

Mrs. Metcalf was born in Cherokee County, N.C., on Monday, June 23, 1913, a daughter of Leonidus and Bessie Martin Stalcup.  She lived in Marietta from 1952 to 1976, then moved back to this area.  She was a member of the Antioch Baptist  church and of the Order of the Eastern Star, Blairsville Chapter #304.  Mrs. Metcalf had worked as a seamstress, doing alterations, She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Metcalf in 1975.

Surviving are three brothers, Clyde Stalcup, Claude Stalcup and Harvey Stalcup, all of Murphy, N.C; nephews, Fred Carder, Ralph Carder, Hugh Carder, Larry Stalcup and Mark Stalcup; nieces, Janet Stiles, Louise Carder, June Garland, Minnie Alexander, Judy Gregg, Virginia Parker, Angie Carter, Betty Carson, Sandy Clayton and Patsy Davenport.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 25, 2004 at the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. George Cline and Rev. Bud Metcalf officiating.  Music was provided by Lita Gowder and Tammy Blasingame.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers were Billy Joe Parker, Jamie Lance, Fred Carder, Larry Stalcup, Jim Clark and Charlie Gregory, Jr.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

marvin lewis young

 

Mr. Marvin Lewis Young, age 69, of C. King Drive in Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Young was born on December 1, 1934 in Upson County, GA., the son of the late Marvin Carl Young and Sarah Carroll Young.  Before his retirement he was employed with Emory Hospital for over sixteen years.  He was a veteran of the US Navy of the Korean war.  Mr. Young was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Young is his loving wife of forty seven years, Mary Ann Hash Young of Blairsville; Mother, Sarah Young of Macon; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cherri Young and Abim Adam of Jonesboro, GA., Kim Young of Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law; David and Becky Young of Jonesboro, GA., Troy and Renee Young of Jonesboro, GA; six sisters, Evie Nettles, Renell Nettles, Frances Farmer, Jewell Averett, Mae Sheffield and Carleene Dunn, all of Macon, GA; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 3:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.  Some of Mr. Young’s favorite hymns were presented for the service.  Presentation of the flag was made by members of the North Georgia Honor Guard.
