Mrs.
Bonnie Irene Lance, age 92, of The Murphy Highway of Blairsville,
Georgia,
passed away Friday, June 18, 1999, in the Erlanger Medical Center, from
injuries received in an automobile accident.
Mrs. Lance
was born in Union County on may 14, 1907, the daughter of the late Jim
Collins
and Dora Graham Collins. She was a
lifelong resident of Union County was employed for several years at the
Hill-Lance Drug Store in Blairsville, and at the time of her death was
employed
at the Radio Shack in Blairsville. Mrs.
Lance was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E. Lance, Sr. She was a member of The Ivy LOG Baptist
Church.
Surviving
are her son and daughter in law, jack and Pat Lance, of Blairsville;
son, Cecil
Lance of Blairsville, seven grandchildren, Kim Lance, Kris Gooch, Karen
Kelley,
Kayce Burks, Kenya Patton, Jack Lance, Jr., and Scott Lance, thirteen
great
grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, June 20, 1999 at 3 p.m. from the Ivy Log
Baptist
Church with the Rev. Tommy Seay and the Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating. Special music was provided by the Ivy Log
Church Choir. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Elmer Thompson, Harold Arkins, Paul Puett, Jr.,
Charles
Beaver, Jack Gray, Bill Crenshaw and Billy Poteete served as a honorary
pallbearer. Interment was in Ivy LOG
Cemetery.
In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to the Ivy Log Baptist Chruch
Cemetery Fund

Mr.
Ricky Roger Dyer, age 37, of Ranson Free Road, Clairmont, Georgia,
formerly of
Union County, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 1999 at Northeast
Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville.
Mr. Dyer
was born in Union County and had attended the Union
County Schools before moving to Clairmont, Georgia.
Surviving are his parents, Bobby
Ray of Blairsville, GA
and Bobby Joe Dyer of Morganton; wife, Charlotte Dyer of Clairmont;
daughter,
April Dyer of Clairmont; one sister, Frances Carpenter of Blairsville;
an aunt,
Jackie Turk of Marietta; and father in law, Johnny Boggs of Clairmont,
many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services for Mr. Dyer were held Tuesday, June 22, 1999 from the Solid
Rock
Baptist Church with the rev. Jerry Witlock and the Rev. Chandler
Anderson officiating. Interment followed
in The Wahoo Baptist
Church Cemetery, in Clairmont, Georgia.

Mr.
Emanuel David Fry, age 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday,
June
25, 1999 at his home.
Mr. Fry
had been a resident of this area for 16 years,
moving here from Cleveland, Ohio. He had
served with the Army Air Corps during WW II, and was a Mason. Mr. Fry was a retired customer engineer in
the business machine industry. He was of
the Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Fry is survived by
his wife, Helen Fry, of Blairsville; a daughter, Helen Cochetti of
Auburn, GA;
a son, David L. Fry of Charleston, W. VA; six grandchildren, one great
grandchild, and other relatives.

Duane
Everett Rice, born November 9, 1932, at McLouth, Kansas, went to be
with the
Lord on June 22, 1999. Pastor Rice
passed away from cancer after having a heart transplant in December of
1996. Duane was the son of Albert and Vera
Rice,
both deceased, and is survived by wife Carolyn Millenbruch, who he
married,
November 3, 1954.
Reverend
and Mrs. Rice pioneered churches in Russellville, Alabama; Ocala,
Florida;
Silver Springs Shores, Florida and they also were the founding Pastors
of
Victorious Temple Assembly of God in Murphy, North Carolina. The Rice’s evangelized in the Mid West and
Eastern United States.
Reverend
Rice received a Doctorate Degree in Bible Theology.
Prior to serving in the ministry, Dr. Rice
worked 16 years at Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. He was an Instrumentation Coordinator with
R.C.A. and had served as 3rd Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy in
the
Korean conflict.
Other
survivors are his daughter, Terry Kavanaugh of Florida, his son,
Michael Rice
of Arizona, two grandchildren, Adam and Amy Kavanaugh of Florida, and
two
brothers and various nieces and nephews in Kansas.
For the
past year he was serving as associate Pastor at Calvary Assembly of God
in
Blairsville, Georgia, where he was a member.
A
memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June
26, 1999, at the Calvary Assembly of God, 3414 Pat Colwell Road,
Blairsville,
Georgia. Dr. Charles Kelley and Pastor
Gene Pansler will officiate.

Mr.
William Wayne Watford, age 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday,
June 23, 1999 at his home.
Mr.
Watford had lived in this area since 1996, moving here
from St. Cloud, FL, where he was a member and deacon of Central Baptist
Church
of West Palm. Mr. Watford was in medical
supply sales for many years. He served
with the U.S. Army during WW II.
Surviving
include his wife, Eleanor S. Watford of the home; son and daughter in
law,
William S. and Linda Watford of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter and son
in law;
Susan L. and Gary Morse of Blairsville, GA, sister, Audrey Lavender of
Winter
Park, FL; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 1999 from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.
The eulogy was given by William S.
Watford. Military honors were presented
by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Interment was in the Union County Memory Gardens.

Mrs.
Irene Garrison McDaris, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Saturday,
June 26, 1999, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs.
McDaris was born June 18, 1905, in Fannin County, Georgia, a daughter
of James
Willard and Laura Morris Garrison. She
was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Earl D. McDaris, in 1976.
Surviving are
three daughters: Mildred Cook of Blairsville, Georgia, Willa Nell Cook
of
Norcross, Georgia and Jerry Justus of Auburn, Georgia; four
grandchildren,
seven great grandchildren a numerous of relatives and a host of friends
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held at 8 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 1999 from the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Black and Rev. Joe May officiating. Music was provided by Martha Ann Cone and
Linda Stubbs.
Graveside
services were at 10 a.m., Monday, June 28, 1999 at Hemptown Cemetery.

Mr.
Alfred Joseph Ghelfi, age 88
Blairsville, passed away at Union General Hospital, June 21,
1999. Mr. Ghelfi had lived in this area
for the
past 30 years, moving here from Miami, FL.
He was WW II veteran and was of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert “Bob”
Carter.
Mr.
Ghelfi is survived by his wife, Wanda Haybert Ghelfi of
the home, a son, Adam Paul Carter, of Blairsville, a daughter, Bernice
Derrer
of Blairsville, two sisters, many grandchildren, great grandchildren
and other
relatives also survive.

Mrs.
Lucille Sparks Young, age 81, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday, June
25, 1999 at Union General Hospital.
Mrs. Young
was born in Union County, December 2, 1917, a daughter of James Gracen
and
Annie Belle Curtis Sparks. She had
retired form the shoe factory. Mrs.
Young was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Young in 19975
and a
son, Jimmie Lane Young in 1938.
Surviving are
son and daughter in law, Kennith and Elaine Young of Blairsville, and
daughter
and son in law, Barbara and Richard Long of Blairsville, two
grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 27th from the Liberty
Baptist Church
with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Guy Bradley officiating.
Music was provided by Ken and Elaine Young. Gloria
Griggs and Inis Conley. Randolph Young,
Danny Young, and Jerry
Roberts, Shaun Conley, Burl Conley and Jimmy Kinnersley served as
pallbearers.
Interment was
in the church cemetery.

Mr.
William E. Nichols, age 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Sunday, June
27, 1999 following a period of declining health. Mr.
Nichols was born in Texas, but had spent
most of his life in Marco Island, FL.
Before moving to Hiawassee in 1992, he had been a pilot for
Delta Airlines
and a Capt. For Con Airway. Later he
owned his on charter service.
Surviving
are a number of nieces and nephews, and many friends who all loved him
deeply. No services will be held
locally. Mr. Nichols will be interred
with his late wife in Florida.
