Mr. David
Lee Abner Sr., age 67, of Bonnie Lane, Blairsville passed away on
Tuesday, June
23, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Abner was born on June 27, 1941 in
Hamilton, OH, the son of the late Denver Abner and the late Florence
Carl
Abner. He was a veteran of the US navy. He was a loving husband, father, brother,
grandfather and great grandfather. He
was preceded in death by a daughter, Candace Moore in 1996. Mr. Abner was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving Mr.
Abner are his loving wife of forty-eight years, Julia Weisenberger
Abner of
Blairsville, five children, Tina and Richard Bowling of Cincinnati, OH,
Deborah
and Ollie Harbin of Blairsville, David Abner Jr. of Bartow, Dennis and
Melody
Abner of Jacksonville, FL., carol and Lee Abner of Blairsville, two
sisters and
brothers-in-law, Kay and Harris Bunkin of Blairsville, Patty and Russ
Manchester of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Suzy
Bacher
of Dothan, AL, seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren,
many other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10 AM from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Fred Bacher officiating.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Richard Bowling,
Camron
Cartrette, Taylor Hales, Brian Harbin, Gregory Dumke Jr. and Stevie
Bennett. Interment followed in the
Meadow View Cemetery with the North Ga. Honor Guard conducting military
honors. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests
that donations may be made to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in memory of
Mr.
Abner.

Mr.
Claude
K. Landrum, 89, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Marietta, GA, died
Friday, June
19, 2009. Funeral services were held at
10 AM Monday, June 22, 2009 at Marietta First United Methodist Church
with Dr.
Sam Matthews and Bill Honaker officiating.
Burial was in Union Grove Baptist church Cemetery in Lithia
Springs, GA.
Mr.
Landrum served in The navy
Seabees as Chief Petty Officer Master at arms serving during WWII and
the
Korean conflict. He was self-employed as
a builder. He was a member of Marietta
First United Methodist church and The House of Prayer Church in
Blairsville. After retirement, he worked
in security for Morred for twelve years.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and he was a member of The
Marietta
Golden K Kiwanis. He was preceded in
death by his wife of sixty-six years, Mrs. Edna C. Landrum..
Survivors
include: daughter Joyce Hines (Ben) of Marietta,
GA; Cathy Black (Jim) of Birmingham, AL; Judy Teague (Randy) of Dallas,
GA; Barbara
Honaker (Chuck) of Blairsville, GA; son: Gene Landrum (Sandi) of
Marietta, GA;
eleven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
The
family received friends Sunday, June 21 from 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta, GA.
In lieu of

Mrs.
Henrietta
Brack Lunsford, age 77, of Glenn Elliott Rd., Suches passed away on
Friday,
June 26, 2009 in the N.E. Georgia Medical Center following a brief
illness. Mrs. Lunsford was born on Feb.
16, 1932 in
Wilkinson County, GA, the daughter of the late Leonard Brack and the
late
Martha Ann green Brack. Mrs. Lunsford
had taught school with the Union County School System at Woody Gap for
over
thirty four years. She was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother. She enjoyed
camping, reading, spending time with her family and friends and
attending her
church. She was preceded in death by a
brother, Algeryne Brack and a sister, Almaryne Brack Leake. Mrs. Lunsford was a member of Mt. Lebanon
Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs.
Lunsford are her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Hobert Lunsford
of
Suches, two daughters and sons-in-law, Karren Kay and Tom Humphrey of
Marietta,
Starr Ann and Mike Timmons of Canton, GA, four grandchildren, Lauren
and Dirk
Justus, Nathan and Emily Humphrey, Emily Kay Humphrey and Elise Claire
Humphrey, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial
service was held on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 2 PM at Mt. Lebanon
Baptist church
with the Rev. Clarence Drummond officiating.
Special music was presented by Brenda Brookshire and Diane
Duffie. In lieu of flowers if you wish,
the family
requests that memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in
memory of
Mrs. Lunsford. The family met with

Edward
“Ed” William Bloom, age 69, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Swanee, GA,
passed
away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at his home following an extended
illness. Mr. Bloom was born on Oct. 30,
1939 in
Sterling, CO, the son of the late William Bloom and the late Frieda
Kindsfater
Bloom. Mr. Bloom retired from the US
Treasury Department after twenty-five years of service.
He was a member of Allegheny Lodge #114
F&AM. Mr. Bloom was of the Baptist
faith.
Surviving Mr.
Bloom are his loving wife of forty-eight years, Mari Pierce Bloom of
Blairsville, one daughter, Janet Bloom of Charlotte, NC, two
grandchildren, Ava

Dell Carter Lester, age 76, of Blairsville formerly of Dadeville, AL,
passed
away on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents,

Mrs.
Lester was born on November 15, 1932 in Acworth, GA.
She was a retired Kindergarten teacher with

United Methodist church of Union County. Dell was a loving wife, mother, sister,
grandmother and friend.

Verdie
Irene Pearson Hostetler, age 95, passed away on June 22 at Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville, GA
She was born in Burnham, PA, on July 25, 1913. Her parents were Calvin D. and Etta Cargill
Pearson. Her husband David Hostetler
preceded her in death.
She was the
last surviving member of her family of six brothers, Calvin, Russell,
John,
Melvin, Richard and Leroy Pearson and one sister, Pearl Pearson Baykash. She was also preceded in death by a daughter
Phyllis Yoder and a grandson Tim Colyer.
She was a homemaker but in her earlier life worked at The
viscose Corp., Kavee Ice Cream Co. and Kennedy’s Bakery.
She enjoyed being with people and loved
visitors. She lived in Lewistown most of
her life until she moved to Georgia several years ago.
Prior to
being married to David Hostetler she had been married to Elton Yoder
and
William Collins, both deceased.
Survivors
include a daughter Donna Henninger and husband
Gene of Blairsville, GA; and two sons Ronald Yoder and wife Gloria of
Thompsontown, PA, and R. William Collins and wife sandy of Pequea, PA.
Also
step-son Fred Hostetler and wife Jeri of CO, and three
step-daughters carol Alexander, Audrey Schue and Susan Whitsel.
Grandchildren
are Diane Talbot, Larry Colyer, Robert
Henninger, Gregory Yoder, Douglas Yoder, Karen Giordano and Holly
Collins.
She also
has 12 great grandchildren.
Graveside
services will be at a later date at Linn memorial
Cemetery in Lewistown, PA.

Violet Bradley Brazie, age 85 of Blairsville, GA formerly of Stone
Mountain, GA
passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Union County Nursing Home in
Blairsville, GA. Mrs. Brazie was the
youngest daughter of the late A.T. and Florence (Campbell) Bradley. She was retired form Fulton County Board of
Education as a payroll supervisor. Mrs.
Brazie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Brazie, and
son-in-law, Ron Coleman, brothers, Bill Bradley and Gene Bradley, three
sisters, Mae Vehorn, Nancy Ward, and Kathleen Wyatt.

Herman
C. McRae, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2009 in
Blairsville, GA. The son of George Lester
and Ollie Hurst
McRae, Herman grew up on Locust Street in Marietta, GA attending
Marietta High
School and Maple Avenue Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers ‘Buster’ and Douglas
and
sisters Lula and Eva.
He was a
Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific
Theatre. During his working years, he
lived in Smyrna and Marietta, GA and worked in Atlanta as a printer. Herman had experienced declining health since
his wife of 65 years, hazel, died last year.
He and Hazel had resided in Blairsville for the past sixteen or
so
years. He was a 50-year member of Nelms
Masonic Lodge #323, Smyrna, GA, a member of Antioch Baptist Church in
Blairsville and a life member of the VFW Post #7394, Blairsville, GA.
Herman is
survived by his only child, Dr. Cheryl
McRae-Bergeron of Blairsville, GA and her husband Woodrow Bergeron;
grandsons
David Bergeron of Dallas, TX and Adam Bergeron of San Diego, Ca; and
nieces
Debbie Russ of Powder Springs, GA, Barbara Newton of McDonough, GA and

Donald E.
“Gene”
Chilton, 70, of Bradenton, FL, and formerly of Blairsville, GA, died
June 21,
2009.
Services
were at 11
a.m. Saturday, June 27 at National Cremation Society and Memorial
Center,
Sarasota.
Survivors
include
his wife of 22 years, Nancy; sons Andrew, martin and Joseph; one
grandson,
Daniel; step-daughters, Cindy Bryant and Karen Milo; a stepson, Paul
Milo Jr.;
and step-granddaughters Cristin Lally and Carrie Thornburg. He also leaves behind his little dog, Chloe.
He was
born Feb. 3,
1939, in Bushnell, FL. Gene served in
the Navy for two years and then two years in the reserves.
He managed an A&P grocery store for more
than 20 years and then worked for Publix supermarkets for several years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after
20 years.
Gene’s
interests
were cars, NASCAR racing (especially Tony Stewart) and the Gators. His pride and joy was his red Corvette
convertible.
He will
be greatly
missed by all his family and friends.
