Lucille
C. Swift, age 88, of Blairsville, formerly of Marietta, died Thursday,
June 25,
1998.
Memorial
services were held Friday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta with the Revs. Ross
Blair and
Karen Evans officiating. Burial
will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
A native of
Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Swift attended Jacksonville schools. She retired as Administrative Assistant to
the top official at Warner Robbins Air Force Base.
She had resided in Blairsville for the last
20 years. She was a member of Grace
Community Church in Blairsville and Vineville Presbyterian Church in
Macon.
Survivors
include three sons, Richard S. Swift of Hendersonville, NC, Eugene A.
Swift of
Duluth, John D. Swift of Marietta; one sister, Violet Hottel of
Orlando, FL;
nine granchildren and seven great granchildren.

Mull Stirewalt, 84, 314 Eddleman Road, died June 19, 1998, at Best of
Care Inn.
She was a
native of Blairsville, GA, daughter of the late James M. and Marcini
Poteete
Mull, played on Main Street Girls Softball Team for many years, worked
at
Woolworth’s Store for 17 years, retired in 1979 from Cannon Mills Plant
1, Wash
Cloth Department, member of Center Grove Lutheran Church, former Sunday
school
teacher in children’s department. She
was also the granddaughter of the late James Allen Poteet and Martha aLice Davenport Poteete.
Survivors are
husband Charles Henderson Stirewalt; sons, Donald Ray Stirewalt of
Lawson, MO
and Terry Lee Stirewalt of Kannapolis; daughters and sons-in-laws,
Peggie and
Jack Goodnight of Kannapolis and Juddie and Oscar Penegar Jr. of
Gastonia;
sisters and brother-in-laws, Grace and H.C. Roseman of Salisbury and
Mildred
and W.C. Karriker of China Grove; six granchidlren; and three
great-grandchildren.

“Bo” D. Conley, age 50, of Robertson Circle, Blairsville, GA, died
Thursday,
June 25, 1998.
He was a
native of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late John Ralph, Jr.
and
Beulah Mae Parker Conley. He was a
self-employed brick mason. He was
preceded in death by his sister, Vicki Lynn Conley.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Ann
Patterson Conley; one
son, Steven R. Patterson of Blairsville, GA; one daughter, Dana M.
graham of
Blairsville, GA; one brother, Terry Conley of Barilla, GA; two sisters,
Tricia
J. Hogsed of Hayesville, NC and Peggy A. Foss of Austell, GA; and
several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, June 28, 1998 at 2 p.m.
at the Towson Rose, Frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Steve Bettis officiated.
Burial was in the Union Hill Cemetery in
Hayesville, NC. Pallbearers were Charles

Mr.
W. Cecil Nelson, Sr., age 78, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday,
June 26,
1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
Nelson was a native of Union County, and was the owner
of nelson Tractor Company for over 50 years.
He was a lifelong resident of Union County, and was a member and
deacon
at Zebulon Baptist Church for over 50 years.
He was a former mayor of Blairsville, and was also a member of
Allegheny
Masonic Lodge, #114, F & AM. Mr.
Nelson was the widow of the late Ruby Cheeks Nelson, who passed away
November
of 1992.
Surviving are
son and daughter-in-law, W.C. and Parsy Nelson, of Blairsville;
daughter, Polly
Love, of Roswell; daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Mike Calloway of
Blairsville and Trina and Tony Collins of Blairsville; brother, J.C.
Nelson of
Blairsville; and two sisters: Evon Ledford of Hayesville, NC and Evelyn
Thomas
of Acworth; grandchildren: Courtney Waller, Will Nelson, Michael
Calloway, and
Monica Calloway, all of Blairsville; Michelle Sullivan of Duluth; Jason
and
Jonathan Love, both of Roswell; four great-grandchildren; Grayson
Waller,
Andrew Nelson, Taylor Sullivan and Georgia Waller.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, June 28, 1998 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Hughes Chatham and Rev. Jimmy
Rogers officiating. Special music was
presented by Terry
Hooper. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Will Nelson, Greg Waller, Sean Sullivan, Michael
Calloway,
Jason Love and Jonathan Love. The
following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: George
Coker, Gene
Conley, Junior Bridges, Leonard Sosebee, Bob Head, Wayne Abercrombie,

Mr.
Harold Richard Day, age 62 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday, June
24, 1998, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Day
was born Monday, November 18, 1935, in Union County,
New Jersey, a son of the late Harold Jackson Day and Bertha Cashin Day. He was a veteran of the U.S. marine Corps. Mr.
Day
was a retired police officer and had lived in this area for the past 12
years. He was a member of St. Francis of
Assisi Catholic Church, volunteer for Hand
in hand
Hospice, and emmer and former president of NEW Jersey Police Officer’s
Benevolent Association. He was preceded
in death by his son, Harold Joseph Day, in 1997. To
his family, he was a loving and devoted
husband and father.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Day, of
Blairsville; daughter: Laura Joy
Day, of Durham, NC; sister: Suann Drury, of Charlotte, NC; several
nieces and
nephews also survive.
Funeral
Mass was held Saturday, June 27, 1998 at 9 a.m. from
St. Francis of Assisi Church, with Father Edward Kirch officiating. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John Drury, Jr..
Jon Drury, 111, Michael Drury, and Robert Richmond, Donald Calvin, and
Calvin
Anstrom. In lieu of flowers, memorials
for Mr. Day may be made to Hand in Hand Hospice.
