myra june mcharg schuette

 

Myra June Schuette, age 55, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, June 21, 2002, at her home, following an extended illness.

Myra was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Tuesday, December 24, 1946, a daughter of Thomas McHarg and Frances Duncan McHarg.  She was a homemaker and had lived in the Blairsville area for the past 1 and Ĺ years, coming here from Auburndale, Florida.  She was a member of Providence Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Tom Schuette of Blairsville and Tracy Schuette of Auburndale, Florida; a grandchild, Sylvan Schuette also survives, along with other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 29, 2002, at 2:00 PM, from Providence Methodist Church, with Rev. Chuck Gillespie and Dr. John Kay officiating.  Special music will be presented by Eric Lynn.  The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jimmy Conner, Michael Vann, John Hill, B.J. Lewis, Tim Moore, and Tim Orr.  Interment will be in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.  Visitation at the funeral home will be after 6 pm, Friday, June 28, 2002, with the family especially meeting with friends on Friday evening, from 6-9 PM.

thomas harkins

 

Mr. Thomas Harkins, age 68, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, June 24, 2002, in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Harkins was born in Union County, Georgia, on Saturday, March 17, 1934, a son of the late Jewell Harkins and Edith Gillispie Harkins.  He was a carpenter and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.  Mr. Harkins had been preceded in death by his parent, a sister, Rachel Harkins, and two brothers, Dewey and Wayne Harkins.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Plott Harkins, of Blairsville; sons, Larry Harkins, Michael Harkins, and Jeff Harkins, all of Blairsville; daughter, Deborah Johnson, of Tifton, Georgia; three sisters: Lee Ruth Warren and Clara Nell Coker, both of Blairsville and Louise Butts, of Benton, Tennessee; Eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 2:00 PM, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. George Cline and Rev. Glenn Hendrix officiating.  Special music was presented by Scott Lance and Kim Thomas.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Daniel Harkins, Alton Williams, Steve Worley, Terry Plott, Stuart Whitener, and Anthony Warren.  Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

william e. post, jr.

 

Mr. William E. Post, Jr., age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness.

Mr. Post was born Tuesday, October 14, 1918, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, a son of the late William Ebert Post and Emma Agnus Geant Post.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served his country during World War II in the 188th Combat Engineer Battalion, in the European Theatre.  Mr. Post had been a member of the Masons for more than 50 years.  Mr. Post lived in Blairsville part of the time during the years between 1973-1978, but moved here permanently in 1978.  He attended The House of Prayer Church.  Preceding him in death were 3 brothers: Robert Thompson Post, Francis Merritt Post, and Raymond Norman Post.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Davis Post, of Blairsville; daughter and son-9n-law , Gail and William Schober, of Blairsville; foster son, John Lewis, of Tamaric, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne Post and H.K. Bonnell, of Waretown, New Jersey; four grandchildren: William John Schober, of Atlanta; Suzann J. Grove, Tennessee; Beth Ann J. Schober Barstow, and Todd Barstow, of Releigh, NC; and Janice Gail and John Mark Blanchett, of Chapel Hill, TN; 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive, along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 1, 2002, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill Honaker officiating.  Special music was presented by Mildred LeCroy and church choir members.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Todd Barstow, Pete Easter, Jeff Jefferson, Larry Conley, James Blanchett, and Rick Grube.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Bob Peters, Joe Walker, Robert Crum, and William Schober.  Interment was in The House of Prayer Church Cemetery.

lavonda jean peterson jones

 

Mrs. Lavonda Jean Peterson Jones, age 77, of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday June 30, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Jones was born on April 25, 1925 in New Brighton, PA, the daughter of the late Arthur Peterson and the late Edith Gibson Peterson.  She had made her home in Blairsville for the past eleven years after moving here from Atlanta.  Mrs. Jones was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Jones are one son, David Jones of Norfolk, VA, three daughters and son-in-laws: Cindy and Robert Kern of Blairsville, Donna and Jeff Sheppard of Cordele, GA, Kim and Henry Sparrow of Dunwood, GA, four grandchildren, Jonathan Sparrow, Jeff Sheppard, Jr., Jennifer Jones and Monique Jones, many other relatives and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Jones memory.

 bessie mae gray douglas

 

Mrs. Bessie Mae Gray Douglas, age 90, of Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Douglas was born on Friday, January 29, 1912, in Alachua County, Florida, a daughter of the late R. W. Gray and Luella Monday Gray.  She had been living in the Blairsville area since 1999, moving here from Plant City, Florida, where she had served as past-president of the senior citizen of Plant City.  Mrs. Douglas was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Plant city, and had been very active in her Sunday School class there.  She spend her early life in farming and was a very loving and giving caregiver for about 35 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Douglas.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Hilda and Broward Williams, of Blairsville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Charles G. and Betty Grimes, of Plant City, daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Sandor Biro, also of Plant City; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 2, 2002, from Eastside Baptist Church in Plant City, with Rev. Waylon Carlisle officiating.   Interment was in Mt. Enon Cemetery in Mt. Enon, Florida.
