billy joe clark

 

Mr. Billy Joe Clark, age 43, of Hicks Gap Rd., Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Clark was born on November 10, 1963 in Knoxville, TN, the son of the late Joseph Clark and the late Willie Sowards Clark.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County, GA and Cherokee County, NC.  BJ loved fishing, hiking, camping and the great outdoors.  He enjoyed tinkering with cars and was a big NASCAR fan.  Music was a big part of his life and in his younger years had played in a band.  Mr. Clark was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Clark are his wife, Dana Smith Clark of Blairsville; three sons, Casey Shadix of Raleigh, NC, Dustin and Cody Meeker of Blairsville; four daughters, Diamond Clark of Blairsville, Autumn Clark of Hayesville, journey Clark of Andrews, NC, Kacey Clark of lake City, FL: three sisters and one brother-in-law, Micki and Randall Pruitt of lake City, FL, Vicki Croft of Jennings, FL, Samantha Whitner of Andrews, NC; three grandchildren, Natalie, Kaden and Louie Whitt; mother-in-law, Donna Hammond of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Organ Transplant Unit of Piedmont Hospital of Atlanta in Mr. Clark’s memory.

charles h. rogers

 

Mr. Charles H. Rogers, age 78 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.  Mr. Rogers was born Monday, November 4, 1928 in Union County, GA, to the late Frank Randall Rogers and the late Lois Roberta Seabolt Rogers.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County and was a U.s. Air Force Veteran.  Mr. Rogers had been a local merchant for many years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Oma Louise Smith Rogers, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Cook of Blairsville; dau-ghter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tim Dyer of Blairsville; brother, Ray Rogers of Blairsville; sister, Louise Rogers Lance of Morganton, GA; brother, Don Rogers of Blairsville; brother, Tommy Rogers of Blairsville; brother, Clark Rogers of Cleveland, OH; brother, Bobby Rogers of Blairsville; granddaughters, Robin Cook, Misty Cook and Emily dyer; and grandson, Jeffrey Cook.  Many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Ben Lewis officiating.  Interment followed in Union memory Gardens, with Military Honors being presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Terry Rogers, Robby Rogers, Robert Rogers, Tommy Rogers, Gary lance and Larry lance.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Friday, June 29.

laverne murray payne

 

Mrs. Laverne Murray Payne, age 73, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at her home.  Mrs. Payne was born Wednesday, November 29, 1933 in Appling County, GA to the late Otis Murray and the late Adel Campbell Murray.  She was a member of New Union Baptist Church, she lived most of her life in Blairsville.  Mrs. Payne was preceeded in death by sisters, Aline Brackett and Debra Murray and brothers, Cecil Murray and Harold Murray.

Survivors include her loving husband, Herol Payne of Blairsville; sons, Michael Herol Payne and Marty Payne, both of Blairsville; brothers, Curtis, George, Roy, Troy, David, J.W. and Freddie Murray and grandchildren: Scott, Lena, Grayson, Irenee and Noah Payne; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 29, 2007 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Harrison Bradley officiating.  Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Sonny Freeman, Terry Legg, Scott Payne, Grayson Payne, Joel Payne and Ronnie Murray.  Honorary pallbearers included the following gentlemen: Jody Payne, Jesse Payne, Jeff Payne and Billy Murray.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, June 28.
