james robert butt

Mr. James Robert Butt, age 78, of Blairsville, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Robert was a native of Blairsville, and was born on September 13, 1932, to Bob Bryan Butt and Zora Gibson Butt.  Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in Korea.  He was a lifelong resident of Blairsville, and was the owner of Butts Antiques Store in Blairsville.  He was a member of The American Legion, and North Georgia Honor Guard.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Joe Owenby, and sister and brother-in-law, Anna Lou and Jack Rogers.

Robert will be missed and is lovingly remembered by his family: Betty Ann Butt, of Blairsville; sons and daughters-in-law, James Bryan and Lisa Butts, of Tiger, GA; and Jeffery Claude and Kathy Butt, of Young Harris, GA; brother, Max Butt, of Blairsville; grandson, Logan Butts and granddaughter, Morgan Butts along with four nieces and many extended family members.

Funeral services for Robert were held Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: David Miller, Logan Butts, Joel Miller, Jason Miller, Gollie Easter, and Bill Fulton.  Selected to serve as honorary pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Dr. James F. Butts, Sr., and Newt Miller.  Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard and the U.S. Army National Guard.  Visitation at the funeral home was held on Tuesday evening, from 6 until 9 p.m.

winston francis hill

 

Mr. Winston Francis Hill, age 68, of Blairsville, formerly of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in the Fannin Regional Hospital.  Mr. Hill was born on October 6, 1942 in Corning, NY, son of the late Francis Hill and the late Ruby Willow Hill.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.  Winston enjoyed bowling and amateur radio.  He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

            Mr. Hill is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Gail Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Amy Walters of Ellijay and Mike and Jenny Hill of Atlanta; one granddaughter, Katlin Hill of Atlanta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilson and Jackie Hill of Ohio, Ron and Mary Hill of New York, and Eric and Linda Hill of Ohio.

A memorial service was held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 4 p.m. at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Terry Stuart officiating.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 3:30 - 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Bowlers Veterans Link, c/o Claudia Harrison, PO Box 596, Sautee, GA 30571 or to Homeward Bound Pet Rescue Inc., PO Box 792, Ellijay, GA 30540.

john thomas “bud” stanford

 

            Mr. John Thomas “Bud” Stanford, age 91, of Suches, GA died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Northeast GA Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.  Bud was born in Fitzgerald, GA June 2, 1920.  He had lived in Suches for over 25 years.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Suches.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later retired from the U.S. Air Force following a 23 year career.  After retiring from the Air Force he worked with the Florida Department of Transportation for 10 years.  He was the son of the late John Thomas Stanford and Annie Prince Stanford ad was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lucille Helton Stanford; daughter, Linda St. Peter; brothers, Frank Stanford and Buster Stanford; sisters, Evelyn Walker and Eloise “Sis” Wood.

            Bud is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John T. Stanford Jr. and Sally Boswell, Suches, GA; grandchildren, Kim Wood and Tom and Rhonda Hay; great-grandchildren, Kimber Wood, Brooklyn Wood, Logan Wood, Easton Wood, Kristi Hay, Eli Hay, and Haley Hay; sister, Betty Merck, Columbia, SC.  A number of other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services for Mr. Stanford were held 2 PM Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Mt. Pleasant Hill Baptist church in Suches with Rev. William Phillips and Rev. Everett Thompson officiating.  Internment followed in the church cemetery.  The family received friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Tuesday, June 28,2 011 from 1 PM until 8 PM.

evelyn nadine strickland tison

Evelyn Nadine Strickland Tison, age 92 of Blairsville, GA, passed away June 29, 2011 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Tison was born June 23, 1919 in Waycross, GA, on June 23, 1919, to the late John Steven Strickland and Sally Mae Becton Strickland.  She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County.  Preceding Mrs. Tison in death was her husband, James Russell Tison; son, James Russell Tison Jr.; grandson, Russell Bryner; three brothers: A.J. Strickland, Walter Strickland, Woodrow Strickland; four sisters: Elizabeth Maxwell, Janie Hague, Polly Herring, and Irene Smith.

She is lovingly remembered by family members: daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Renny Bryner, of Blairsville; sister, Madge Pennington, of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Oveida Hague, of Venice, FL; grandson, Charles Barry Bryner, of Woodstock, GA; granddaughter, Leslie and Gary Rybka, of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter and her husband, Michelle and Mike Russell, of Nashville, TN; great granddaughter and her husband, Lacey Copeland Madrigal and Josh Madrigal; great granddaughter, LeAnne Copeland, great grandchildren, Austin and Brady Russell, great great granddaughter, Lila Marie Madrigal.

Mrs. Tison’s funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Elder Herman Griffin and Dr. Fred Lodge officiating.  The family especially selected music that was presented by Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Plott.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Chaz Bryner, Richard Wilson, Ed Turner, Carl Pennington, Gary Rybka, and Renny Bryner.  Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation with the family was held at the funeral home on the same day of the funeral - Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.

audrey woody tritt

 

            Mrs. Audrey Woody Tritt, age 86, of Suches, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at hr home with her loving family at her bedside.

            Mrs. Tritt was born September 22, 1924 in Fannin County, GA.  She lived most of her life in Suches, GA.  Audrey and her husband, Howard, owned and operated Tritt’s Country Store in Suches for over 50 years.  Audrey was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist church in Suches.

            She was the daughter of the late Jack and Laura Cook Woody and was also preceded in death by brothers, Jackie Woody and Merle Woody; sisters, Mariam Cruse, Azalea Thomason, Pauline Gooch, and Ann Campbell; son-in-law, Ned White.

            Audrey is survived by her husband of 70 years, Howard Tritt, Suches, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Carol and Ned Gooch, Suches, Linda White, Suches; sister, Betty Moose, Sharpsburg, GA; grandchildren and spouses, Tommy and Susan White, “Mimi” White, Patrick and Tiffany White, Laura Gooch; great-grandchildren, Hannah White, Haley White, Cameron White, and Lydia White.  Numerous other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services were scheduled for 11 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches with Rev. Clarence Drummond officiating. 

            Interment followed in the church cemetery.

            Mrs. Tritt lay in state at the church from 10 AM until 11AAM on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

            The family received friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 5 PM until 9 PM.
