Mr.
William
Jay (better known as Billy) Carney, age 47 of King Cove Rd., Young
Harris,
formerly of Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in the
Union
General Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Carney was born on Sept. 18, 1961 in Towns County, the son
of Tommy
J. Carney and the late Martha Lou Reid Carney.
He was a lifelong resident of Towns and Union Counties. He graduated Union County High School in 1979
and had attended Young Harris College.
Billy was a gentle loving family man.
He loved to read and loved his critters.
He was employed with the City of Young Harris for several years. Mr. Carney was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr.
Carney are his loving wife of eighteen years, Michele Brown Carney of
Young
Harris, three daughters and one son-in-law, Kaitlin Carney of Young
Harris,
April and Stephen Lovell of Young Harris, Nikki Carney of Hiawassee,
father and
step mother, Tommy J. and Charlsey Carney of Dahlonega, two brothers
and one
sister-in-law, Larry and Carol Reid of Blairsville, Jerry Reid of
Blairsville,
one sister, Ann Spear of Blairsville, three grandchildren, Wyatt and
Weston
Lovell and Jayden Barrow, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial
service was held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 7 p.m. from the Mountain view Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff
Deaver
officiating. In lieu of flowers if you
wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American
Literacy
Program in memory of Mr. Carney. The
family met with friends at the funeral home following the services.

Mrs.
Mae Daniel Brown, age 93, of Braselton, Georgia, formerly of
Blairsville,
passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in the Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in
Gainesville.
Mrs.
Brown was born Sunday, June 18, 1916 in Union County, Georgia,
the daughter of the late Eli Daniel and the late Laura Davenport Daniel. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church
and had also been active in the Eastern star.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; sisters:
Lorraine
Towery, Belva Kronquist, Bertha Chastain, Cliffie Dean; brothers: Ray
Daniel,
Roy Daniel, Clyde Daniel, and Wayne Daniel; 4 sisters: 5 brothers: and
her
grandson, Derek Jetter, the love of her life.
Many nieces and nephews, and special friends also survive.

home in her garden that she loved to share with
friends and neighbors, she was “Mom” to most and always ready to help
others.
Surviving
family members include; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and David
Jetter of
Braselton; sisters, Dorothy Byers of Blairsville, and Pauline Parker of
Duluth,
GA, and a brother, Tom Daniel of Phoenix, AZ.
Graveside
services were held Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11 AM from the Ivy Log
Cemetery
with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.
The family
received friends Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the
Cochran
Funeral Home in Blairsville.

Cathryn
Louise (Cathy) Russell, age 77 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Thursday,
July 2, 2009 at her residence.
Cathy was
born Tuesday, February 2, 1932 in Miami, FL, to
the late Herman Luke and Leona Ripley Luke.
She was a member of Coosa United Methodist church and was
preceded in
death by her daughter, Vicky Russell; sons, Michael Russell and Keith
Russell;
sisters, Edna Osteen and Clara Bunner.
Surviving
family members include; husband, Henry Russell of Blairsville; son,
Gary
Russell of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Glenn Bates
of
Blairsville; brother, Carl Luke of Bell, FL; granddaughter, Holly
Jannerone;
grandson, Nikki Bates; great grandsons, Ronnie Jannerone and Kyle
Jannerone.
Memorial
services were held Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Coosa United
Methodist church
with Dr. Steve Midkiff, Rev. Earl Bishop, Rev. Vickie McVay and Rev.
Jan
Devereaux officiating. Music was
provided by Cynthia Lumme, Elaine Moss, John Gurley and Coosa United
Methodist
church Choir.
