minnie mae guffey

 

Mrs. Minnie Mae Guffey, age 85, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at her residence.

Mrs. Guffey was born Monday, May 2, 1921 in Graham County, NC, to the late Bill Jordan and Floria Owens Jordan.  She was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Guffey; brothers, Vic, Mack and Roy Jordan; sisters, Ethel Rose and Farie Jordan.

Survivors include, son & daughter-in-law, James Mack an Evelyn Guffey; son & daughter-in-law, jack and Christine Guffey; daughter, Sharon Poulos; daughter & son-in-law, Ellen and Perry Nix; sister, Bonnie McCollum;  all of Blairsville, GA, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Melba Mulky, Shirley Mitchell, and Felisha Kirby.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Jenkins, Rev. Waymon Lovell, and Rev. Gary Guffey officiating.  Music was provided by The Kelly Trio.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Pallbearers were James Kirby, Jr., Jonathan Kirby, Jack Guffey, Thomas Poulos, Nicklos Poulos, Terrance Taylor, Darrell Guffey, and Greg Guffey.

doris collins colwell

 

Mrs. Doris Collins Colwell, age 85 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Colwell was born Sunday, April 10, 1921 in Union County, Georgia to the late John C. Collins and Lena lance Collins.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County and the Beta Epsion Society.  She was a visiting teacher for the Union County School System for 40 years and was the former Mayor of Blairsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert England Colwell; brothers: Neal W., Wayne O. and J.C. Collins; sisters: Ruth Hood and Frankie Weaver.

Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Robbie and Mark Weaver of Blairsville, GA, sister, Docia Loh of Orlando, FL, several nieces and nephews, angels among us, Reida Stephens, Ila Mae Dockery and Arlene Garrett.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 11:00 from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. BEN Lewis officiating.  Music was presented by Mrs. Martha Cone.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were: Ricky Wilcox, David Bryant, Bud Hill, Jimmy Hood, Ivan Phillips and Don Phillips.

The family has requested that donations, in memory of Doris, be made to the chairity of your choice.

lloyd julius jorgenson

 

Mr. Lloyd Julius Jorgenson, age 81, went to meet his Savior on Saturday July 1, 2006 from the North East Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mr. Jorgenson was born on June 15, 1925 in EauClaire, WI, the son of the late John Jorgenson and the late Anna Loberg Jorgenson.  He lived most of his life in Land O’Lakes, FL before making his home in Blairsville.  He was a devoted child of God, a loyal and loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather.  Lloyd was a Veteran of the US navy of WWII.  He drove trucks for several years before opening Jorgenson Truck Sales in Land O’Lakes, FL.  Mr. Jorgenson was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Jorgenson are his loving wife of fifty-four years Lois Tripp Jorgenson of Blairsville, three daughters and two son-in-laws, Nancy and Glenn Beasley of Waynesville, NC, Mary and Bruce Gimson of land O’Lakes, FL, Sally Bauer of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Agnus Jorgenson of Trego, WI, six grandchildren, Glenn Beasley Jr., Stacey Vasquez, Eric Gimson, Carla Proffitt and Dennis Proffitt, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday July 3, 2006 from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Cotton Hedden officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bruce Gimson, Eric Gimson, Dennis Proffitt, William Franklin, Jackie Abercrombie and Lowell Taylor.  The body laid in-state at the church from 1-2pm on Monday.  Interment followed in the church cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.

young glynn peters

 

Mr. Young Glynn Peters, age 78, of Blairsville, GA and formerly of Dahlonega, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Peters was a native of Muscogee County, GA who had lived in Lumpkin County most of his life.  He had lived in Blairsville for the past seven years.  He was retired from the City of Dahlonega.

Mr. Peters was the son of the late Ben and Isabelle Abercrombie Peters and was also preceded in death by a sister, Inez Keith and a brother, Clarence Peters.

He is survived by his daughters, Ann Lingerfelt of Blairsville, GA and Patricia Hughes of Douglasville, GA; former wife, Bessie Peters of Dahlonega, GA; brothers, Vernon Peters of Marietta, GA, Leon Peters of Dahlonega, GA, and B.R. Peters of Clermont, GA; sister, Frances Clark of Ellenwood, GA; granddaughter, Leann Gunter; grandsons, Michael Lingerfelt and Eric Lingerfelt; great-grandchildren, Joshua Gunter, Katlin Gunter, Ashton Gunter, and Nolan Lingerfelt.  A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Peters were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2006 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating.  Interment followed in the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Tuesday until time of service.

verena stavely keim

 

Mrs. Verena Stavely Keim, age 81, of W & B Drive, Blairsville formerly of Mulberry, FL passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Keim was born on July 28, 1924 in Stilson, GA, the daughter of the late Orlando Stavely and the late Alma Mock Stavely.  Before her retirement, she was employed as a Librarian with the Polk County School System.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick M. Keim, brothers, Dick, Burcer and Neal Stavely.  She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was a friend to all.  Mrs. Keim was a member of the Mulberry First United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Keim are her loving husband of sixty-two years, Russell Keim of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Irene Keim of Bushnell, FL, three daughters and one son-in-law,, Russalyn K. Hernandez of Mulberry, FL, Mary Beth Keim of Blairsville, Karol Ann Keim of Blairsville, Kathy and Jesse Minter of Blairsville, seven grandchildren, Verena Wooten, Bradey Kemp, Hubert Hernandez, Russell Hernandez, Keim Minter, Troy Lignitz and John Lignitz, eight grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday July 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Seigler funeral home chapel in Mulberry, FL.  Interment followed in the Mount Olive church cemetery.

Mrs. Mae Bell Jarrard, age 92, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, Georgia.

Mrs. Jarrard was born Friday, June 12, 1914 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Joe Holloway and the late Louisa Self Holloway and had been a lifelong resident of Union County.  A member of Zion Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband Homer Franklin Jarrard, and step-son, Harvey Preston Jarrard.

Survivors include: daughter, Betty Ann Brohterton of Landis, North Carolina; daughter, Johnnie Sue Head of Norcross, Georgia; son, Robert Jarrard of Hiawassee, Georgia; son, Bobby Jarrard also of Hiawassee; daughter, Nancy Wood of Suches, Georgia; step-daughter, Dora Lee Dial of Atlanta; step son, James C. Jarrard of Statenville, Georgia; step-son, James C. Jarrard of Statenville, Georgia; step-son, Homer T. Jarrard of Ellijay, Georgia; brother D. L. Holloway of Kannapolis, North Carolina; brother J.D. Holloway of Dahlonega, Georgia; 26 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Head and Rev. Scotty Jarrard officiating.  Music was provided by Mary and Tabatha Head.  Interment followed in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers:  Donnie Brotherton, John Jarrard Chris Jarrard, Ricky Head, Dewayne Wood Devin and wood, Darren Wood, and Steve Jarrard.
