Mrs.
Hilda Carringer
Hood, age 61, of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday evening, July 6,
2011 at
St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.
Hilda was
born on
October 1, 1949 a daughter to the late Arlo & Elizabeth (Rector)
Carringer.
She was a lifelong resident of
Blairsville and a graduate of Union County High School class of 1967. Hilda retired from United Community Bank as an
Assistant Vice President after 37 years of service. A
member of New Union Baptist Church, she had
a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed antiques and loved spending time
with her grandchildren.
Hilda was in her 12th year of dialysis
at the Union County Dialysis Center.
Hilda
will be missed
and is lovingly remembered by her family: husband of 44 years, Rick
Hood of
Blairsville; daughter, Dana Hood of Blairsville; son &
daughter-in-law,
Damon & Judy Hood of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law,

Justin Dale of Hiawassee; sister & brother-in-law, Mary & Don

Funeral
services were
held Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran
Funeral Home
with Rev. Jonathon Hood officiating. A
eulogy
was delivered by a niece, Sonya Stephens and remembrances were made by
Dr.
Pruitt. Music was provided by the New
Union Baptist Church Choir. The
following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jerry
Hood,
W.H. Hood, Bill Beavers, Troy Phillips, Ed Boddiford and Henry
Stephens. Don LeCroy served as honorary
escort to the
family. Interment followed in New Union
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family
received friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 9
p.m.
Flowers
will be
accepted; however the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made in Hilda's name to the Union County Dialysis
Benevolence
Fund, 72 Appalachian Avenue, Blairsville, GA 30512.
Arrangements

Brian
Keith Edmonds, age 40, of Rocky Rd., Blairsville, GA, formerly of
Michigan,
passed away at his residence on Monday, July 4, 2011.
Brian was born March 30, 1971 in Kalamazoo,
MI, the son of Catherine Edmonds and the late Carl Rexrode. Brian was of the Christian faith.
Brian is survived by his mother,
Catherine Edmonds of Hartford, MI; special friend, Shelly Lhotka of
Blairsville, GA; brothers, Peter Aranda of Kalamazoo, MI, Jose
Ontiveros of
Loreta, PA, Mark Ontiveros of Stevensville, MI and Miguel Ontiveros of
Hartford, MI; sisters, Maria Bailey of Coloma, MI and Teresa Collins of
Hartford, MI.
A
memorial service for Brian will be held at a later date in Michigan. Flowers are accepted and may be sent to

Mr.
William Kenneth Sipe, 90, of
Blairsville, GA passed away on June 3, 2011.
Mr. Sipe was born in New Middletown, Ohio on June 21, 1920 and
lived in
many places during his life including Ypsilanti, MI, Kendall Park, NJ,
Lexington, KY, North Hollywood, CA, Chicago, IL, Miami, FL and Orlando,
FL. He settled on Lake Nottely in
Blairsville,
GA in 1986. Mr. Sipe served in the U.S.
Army in World War II and was retired from a long career as a
merchandiser in
the retail auto parts industry.
He was preceded in death by his
second wife of 24 years, Elisabeth DeJong Sipe and his first wife of 25
years,
Cora Mae Worley Sipe. He is survived by
his daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Sipe and Ken Ball of Canton, GA;
his
daughter-in-law and son, Nancy and David Sipe of Trenton, NJ; his
daughter-in-law and son, Kathy and Bill Sipe of Katy, TX; his
daughter-in-law
and son, Lidia and Ron Sipe of Northridge, CA; and his daughter-in-law
Cheryl
Sipe of Acworth, GA. he is also survived
by 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and
nephews and
friends. Also surviving Mr. Sipe are his
sisters Margaret Sipe Menn of Englewood, FL, Ruth Sipe Rabosky of new
Middletown, OH and Carol Sipe Reese of Sarasota, FL and his brother
Lawrence
Sipe of New Middletown, OH.
A memorial ceremony and family
celebration will be held in Youngstown, OH on July 15th.

Mrs.
Connie Lou Gilstrap, age 61, of Bunker Hill Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Monday, July 4, 2011 at her home. Mrs.
Gilstrap was born on Nov. 30, 1949 in Wayne, W.VA, the daughter of the
late
Robert Lee Adkins Jr. and the late Doris Maxine Pruitt Adkins. Connie enjoyed cake decorating, gardening and
painting. She was a loving wife, mother,
sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She
was preceded in death by a brother, Dale
Adkins in 2008. Mrs. Gilstrap was a
member of the Blairsville Christian Center.
Surviving
Mrs. Gilstrap are her loving husband of twenty-three years, Paul
Gilstrap of
Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Becky Leavens of
Blairsville, Richard and Cassie Leavens of Lakeland, FL, two sisters
and one
brother-in-law, Cathy Edwards, Vangie and William Gill all of Lakeland,
FL,
eight grandchildren, Chris Dolbear, J.J., Triston and Broxston Burkey,
Mitchell
and Megan Alissa Leavens, Amy and Chris Graham, one great grandchild,
McKinzie
Harper, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Graveside
services were held on Thursday July 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. from the
Greenwood
Cemetery in Panama City, FL with the Rev. Billy Joe Melvin officiating.
The family met with friends at the
graveside
from 12:30-1 p.m. Family and friends
will serve as pallbearers. The family

Mrs.
Leslie Dorine Drummond, age 76, of Gordon Thomas Rd., Blairsville
passed away
on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the home of her son in Hampton, GA. Mrs. Drummond was born on Jan. 7, 1935 in
Morganton, GA, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Thomas and the
late
Radie Newman Thomas. Leslie enjoyed
quilting and gardening. She was a loving
mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother and was a friend to
many. She was preceded in death her
husband, Gary
Donald Drummond Sr. in 1981 and by five brothers, Gordon, Carmel,
Ruben, James
and J.C. Thomas also by two sisters, Arizona Prince and Rose Thomas. Mrs. Drummond was a member of Carmel Baptist
church (sic) and was attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Drummond are one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sheila Drummond
of
Hampton, GA, one daughter, Lynn Drummond of Baton Rouge, LA, one
sister, Myrtle
T. and Earl Arnold of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Linda and Mike
Smith,
Marcy and Gary Sorrell, one great granddaughter, Savannah Smith, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas officiating. Special
music was presented by Luther Thomas
and Sally Robertson. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers, William Gazaway, Mike Thomas, Lorene
Beavers,
Jessie Holton, Randy Thomas and J.D. Crawford.
Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral

Mr.
Clippert Leo Carrier, age 73, of Stonebrook Circle, Blairsville passed
away on
Wednesday. July 6, 2011 in the Union General Hospital following an
extended
illness. Mr. Carrier was born on April 26, 2011 (sic) in Mt. Clemons,
MI, the
son of the late Joseph Carrier and the late Addie Rosco Carrier. He retired from the US Army as a Flight
Operations Specialist with over twenty years of service and had served
in the
Vietnam War. He was a loving husband,
father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He
was preceded in death by his Ex-wife (sic),
Ruth Robbins and a daughter, Diana Miller Carrier both in 2009 and also
a
sister, Shirley Willemburg. Mr. Carrier
was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving
Mr. Carrier are his loving wife of thirty years, Jeannie Carrier of
Blairsville, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Yvonne and Michael
Penrod of
Owosso, MI, Tammie and Ronald DuQuette of New Baltimore, MI, Debbie
Carrier of
Owosso, MI, one sister, Sharon Carrier of MI, seven grandchildren,
eight great-grandchildren,
many other relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service will be held in Holly, MI with interment and Military
Honors
in the Great Lakes National Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be
made to
Cast-A-Way Critters or to the Union County Humane Society in memory of
Mr.
Carrier.

Mrs. Ida
Jones
Jackson, age 93, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011
in Union
General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Jackson was
born in Robbinsville, NC on November 20, 1917, a daughter of the late
Vadore
"Casey" Jones and Reillie Anderson Jones. She
was a homemaker and a member of First
Baptist Church of Blairsville. Mrs. Ida
had lived in Blairsville for 86 years, and always enjoyed working with
her
flowers. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Neal Jackson, in 1977; and three brothers and two sisters.
She will
be missed
by all who knew her, but especially by her loving family: son and
daughter-in-law, Bobby and Beverly Jackson, of Blairsville; four
sisters: Polly
Henson, of Blairsville; Ruth Payne, of Forest Park, GA, Shirley Moore,
of
Fayetteville, GA, and Bobbie Loe Gentry, of Morganton, GA;
granddaughters and
their husbands, Lydia and Phillip Sartain, of Gainesville, and Lisa and
Mike
Mashburn, of Blairsville; great granddaughters: Wendy and Kayla
Mashburn, and
Callie, Carey, and Susie Sartain.
Mrs.
Jackson's
funeral services were held on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at 2 p.m., in the
Chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Danny Parris and Dr.
Fred Lodge
officiating. Mrs. Jackson was eulogized
by her granddaughters, Lydia Sartain and Lisa Mashburn. Special
music was provided by Minister of
Music R. Terry Hooper. The following
gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers: Phillip Sartain, Mike
Mashburn, Jack Jones, Tommy Jones, Junior Bridges, Randy Abernathy,
Carson
Owenby, and Phil Holoman. Burial followed
in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The
family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 until 9
p.m.

Mr.
Gary
Thomas Campbell, age 71, of Blairsville, GA passed away, Wednesday,
July 6,
2001 at his residence following an extended illness.
Gary was born October 24, 1939 in Dunedin,
FL, the son of the late Weldon Campbell and the late Catherine Pinder
Campbell.
He moved to Blairsville in 2001 from
Lawrenceville, GA because he loved the mountains. Gary
was a loving husband, father, brother and
grandfather. He was an avid fisherman
and loved to camp. His favorite pastime
was making jams and jellies and giving them away. His
sons Tommy and Johnny were his favorite
fishing buddies. Gary was preceded in
death by his parents, Weldon and Catherine Campbell. Gary
was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Gary
is
survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon Campbell of the home.
(sic) two
sons, Tommy and Joanie Campbell and Johnny Campbell all of Blairsville,
GA; a
brother and sister-in-law, Vic and Gail Campbell of Greer, SC; special
granddaughter, Savannah Campbell of Holiday, FL and great
granddaughter, Ashley
Star Marino of Holiday, FL, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
