Mrs.
Emma Lee lackey Collum age 56, of Rydal, Ga., formerly of Blairsville,
GA.
Passed away Tuesday June 27, 1998 at her home in Rydal, following and
extended
illness.
She was
born July 27, 1941 in Asheville, NC, the daughter of Shirley lackey and
the
late Harold Lackey.
She grew up
in Blairsville, but had lived in Bartow Co. for the past 40 years. Survivors include her mother, Shirley Lackey,
of Blairsville, GA., Husband, Ed Collum, son and daughter-in-law,
Anthony and
Tammy Collum, son, Joe Collum of Rydal, four daughters: Shirley (Steve)
Batson,
of Rydal, Angie Collum, Renae (Alfred) Smith of Cartersville, GA. and Reita Sue (Johnny) Thornton, of Talladega,
Ala.
Three
brothers: Donald lackey, Bruce Lackey, and Gary lackey, all of
Blairsville;
three sisters: Reita Wright of Rawlings Wyoming, Martha Sue Dockery,
and Jolynn
Ingram of Blairsville ten grand-children, 1 great grandson; several
nieces,
nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, June 25, 1998 at 2 p.m.
at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Rydal, GA with Rev. Rowland Lee
officiating. Interment in the oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs.
Mabel Sampson Tate Caler, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Monday, July
6, 1998 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Caler
was born Saturday, May 28, 1910, in Scott County, Virginia, a daughter
of the
late Samuel Sampson and Mary Alice Cookenour Sampson.
She was a homemaker and was the widow of the
late Vance Caler. Mrs. Caler had been
living in Blairsville since 1985k coming here from Mendota, Virginia. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are
her brother; Earnest Sampson, of Gate City, VA; and brother, Eugene
Sampson, of
Fall Branch, TN; Niece and nephew, Pat and Jack Tucker, of Blairsville;
many
other relatives, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 8, 1998 at 8:30
p.m. from Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Brock
officiating. Scripture and prayer was
given by Tony Abbot. Interment was in
Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, July 9, 1998 at 10:30 a.m.

Mr.
Gerald “Jerry” Beauford, age 65, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Sunday, July
5, 1998 in Northeast Georgia Medical center in Gainesville.
Mr.
Beauford was born in Etowah County, Alabama, on Thursday, February 10,
1933, a
son of the late Edgar Beauford. He was a
US Army veteran and served in Korea. Mr.
Beauford had lived in this area since 1989, coming here from Atlanta. He was a former board member of Mountain Top
Emmaus; and was an active member of Coosa Methodist Church. Mr. Beauford led the Sunday Evening Praise
and Worship Services at Coosa Methodist Church.
He was also a volunteer at Union County Nursing Home, and was a
Methodist Lay Speaker.
Surviving are
his wife, Nan Beauford, of the home; daughter, Annette Kline, of
Gadsden, AL;
son, Steve Beauford, also of Gadsden; daughter, Sherry Beauford, and
son,
Shannon Beauford both of Gainesville, GA; brother James Beauford, of
Marietta,
GA; 5 grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 8, 19998 at 2
p.m. from Coosa Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Bishop and Rev. Orville
Nelson officiating. Special music was
presented by Mrs. Ida Lou
Bishop. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Dr. Donn Smith, Dennis Wolf, Bill Curlee, Henry
Russell, Hank
Hall, and Jeff Carlin. Interment was in
the church cemetery.

Gainesville the death and funeral services for Mrs. Ruby M. Paris, age
79, of
Gainesville who passed away Wednesday, July 8, 1988 in Lanier Park
Hospital following
a brief illness. Mrs. Paris was born in
Union County but had lived in hall County
of the past
3 years. She was the daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. William Burnette, and she was retired form the
Marrell
Poultry Company Since 1978. Mrs. Paris
was a member of Owl Town Church of God.
Surviving are
daughter, Mary Wilkerson, of Knoxville, TN; daughter and son-in-law,
Ann and
James R. Sullens, of Gainesville; Barby Ellen and Marvin Cox of
Lilburn, GA;
son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Nidia Fortenberry of Gainesville;
son,
Charles Lee Paris, of Gainesville, 15 grandchildren, 13 great
grandchildren,
and 12 great great grandchildren also survive.

services are scheduled for Friday, July, 10, 1998 at
11 a.m. in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with Rev.
Marion
Burnette and Rev. Pete Martin officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July
9, 1998
at the Funeral Home in Gainesville.

Mr.
Milford Henley Hamby, age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday,
July 5,
1998 in Blairsville.
Mr. Hamby
was a native of Union County, and the son of the late Marley P. Hamby,
Sr., and
Nora Allison Hamby. At the time of his
retirement, he was a Field Office manager for the GA Dept. of Veteran’s
Services. Mr. Hamby was a veteran of the
U.S. Army, and served during World War 11, achieving the rank of 1st
Sergeant. Mr. Hamby was a life member of
DAV, The American Legion, and The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. He was a member of First Methodist Church of
Union County, and Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114. Mr.
Hamby was the last surviving charter
member of The Lions Club of Union County.
Surviving
are his wife, Mildred H. Hamby, of Blairsville’ daughter in law and
husband,
Ann Hinnant, and Stanley Johnson, of Rockhill, SC; step-son and
daughter-in-law: Robert G. and Elava Hinnant, of Tallahassee, FL;
Donnell and
Judy Hinnant, an Moris and Cheryl Hinnant, all of Wilmington, NC; Steve
and
Cindy Hinnant, of Woodstock, GA; a sister; Jessie Jackson; three
brothers:
Manley, Hoyt, and Loy Hamby, all of Union County, GA; 8 grandchildren,
3 great
grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at
2 p.m. from First Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating. The body will lie instate at the church
beginning at 1:30 p.m. on the day of the funeral. The
following nephews will serve as
pallbearers: Ron Hamby, Glenn Hamby, Dale Hamby, Johnny Hamby, Bill
Hamby, and
Ferrell Penland.
Serving as
honorary pallbearers will be members of The North Georgia Honor Guard
and
fellow veterans, member of the Lion Club, and member of Allegheny
Masonic
Lodge, F&AM, #144. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests
memorials be made to The Building Fund of First Methodist Church of
Union
County, PO Box 859, Hwy. 515, Blairsville, GA 30514.
Interment will be in Union Memory Gardens
Cemetery.

Elizabeth Barrow, age, 77, died on July 10, 1998 in a nursing home in
South
Bend, Indiana. Betty was a former
resident of Branan Lodge and worshipped at the First United Methodist
Church of
Blairsville.
