Mr. James
Kennith (Ken) Young, age 69, of
Haralson Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 in
Blairsville following a brief illness. Ken
was born on Dec. 8, 1941 in Union County, the son of the late James W.
Young
and the late Grace Lucille Sparks Young. Ken
was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall
of Fame. He loved singing, playing and
writing songs, but most of all he loved his Lord. He
and Elaine owned and operated Ken’s Herbs
since 1994. Ken was a member of Ivy Log
Baptist Church.
Surviving
Ken are
his loving wife, Elaine Mason Young of Blairsville, one sister and
brother-in-law,
Barbara and Richard Long of Blairsville, one niece, Abby and J.R.
Cornett of
Blairsville, nephew, James Long of Blairsville, two great nieces, Alex
and
Ashton King of Blairsville, a host of church family, many, many
musician
friends, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Saturday July 16, 2011 at 3 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral
Home
Chapel with the Rev. Tony Black, Dr. Don Pruitt and other volunteers. Special music was presented by volunteers who
wanted to sing or play. Serving as pallbearers were Ken’s friends who
want to
volunteer. (Ken’s request was that he
only wanted anyone who wanted to speak, play music, sing or be a
pallbearer to
be able to do so. He did not want to
impose upon anyone, by asking them to do so. That
is why he requested only volunteers). Interment
followed in the Meadow View
Cemetery. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mr. James
Robert
Butt, age 78, of Blairsville, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, in
Union
General Hospital in Blairsville.
Robert
was a native
of Blairsville, and was born on September 13, 1932, to Bob Bryan Butt
and Zora
Gibson Butt. Robert was a veteran of the
U.S. Army, and served in Korea. He was a
lifelong resident of Blairsville, and was the owner of Butts Antiques
Store in
Blairsville. He was a member of The
American Legion, and North Georgia Honor Guard. Robert
was preceded in death by his parents; a
sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Joe Owenby, and sister and
brother-in-law, Anna Lou and Jack Rogers.
Robert
will be
missed and is lovingly remembered by his family: Betty Ann Butt, of
Blairsville; sons and daughters-in-law, James Bryan and Lisa Butts, of
Tiger, GA;
and Jeffery Claude and Kathy Butt, of Young Harris, GA; brother, Max
Butt, of
Blairsville; grandson, Logan Butts and granddaughter, Morgan Butts
along with four
nieces and many extended family members.
Funeral
services for
Robert were held Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Potts officiating. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
David Miller, Logan Butts, Joel Miller, Jason Miller, Gollie Easter,
and Bill
Fulton. Selected to serve as honorary
pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Dr. James F. Butts, Sr., and
Newt
Miller. Burial was in Union Memory
Gardens Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor
Guard
and the U.S. Army National Guard. Visitation
at the funeral home was held on Tuesday evening, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Ms. Linda
Walker, age 66, of Blairsville,
GA, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2011 in Erlanger
Hospital in
Chattanooga, TN.
Ms.
Walker was born
on March 19, 1945 in Orlando, FL. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Walker, in 1996. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving family members include:
daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Chris Filling of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law Kenney and Andrea Walker of Winder, GA; sister and
brother-in-law Les and Joyce Edwards of Eustis, FL; grandchildren:
Hannah
Filling of Blairsville, Trevor and Amber Walker of Winder, GA.
Ms.
Walker’s funeral
services were held Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at Brewer and Son’s
Funeral Home
in Clermont, FL.

Mrs.
Gladys Rhodes, age 91, of Rocky Top Heights, Blairsville, passed away
on
Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following a
brief
illness. Mrs. Rhodes was born on Jan.
17, 1920 in Marlboro, NY, the daughter of the late Elmer Paltridge and
the late
Edith Dewitt Paltridge. Gladys was a
member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Milton New York Fire Department. She was a precinct worker for the Milton
County Voter Pole and was secretary for Milton Auto for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Carl E.
Rhodes. Mrs. Rhodes attended Antioch
Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Rhodes are two daughters and one son-in-law, Doris Arlene
Burlingame of
Lantana, FL, Carla and Frederick Smith of Blairsville, nine
grandchildren, ten
great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces,
nephews,
many other relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service will be held at a later date from the Missionary
Alliance
Church in Cape Coral. In lieu of flowers
if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Antioch
Baptist
Church in memory of Mrs. Rhodes.

Mr. Dale
Elliott, 92, of Blairsville, GA, passed
away Friday, July 15, 2011 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mr. Elliott was born Thursday, October 10,
1918 in Union County, GA to the late James Elliott and the late Leanna
Chapman
Elliott, and was a childhood friend of Byron Herbert Reece. He was a member of Ivy Log Baptist Church. Dale was an Army Air Force Veteran having
served during WWII. After the war, he
attended Georgia Tech and received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Chemical
Engineering and worked with Allied Chemical for many years before
retiring back
home in Blairsville in 1981. He and his
wife, Billie, recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Dale had
been very
active in community service during the past 30 years in the Union
County Lions
Club and especially in the Union County Historical Society. He was instrumental in authoring and editing
the book, “Cemetery Records of Union County Georgia.”
Dale is
lovingly
remembered and will be greatly missed, especially by his family: wife,
Billie
Deaver Elliott; son and daughter-in-law, James and Natica Elliott of
Jasper,
Georgia, and granddaughters, Claire and Joy Elliott, all of Jasper. He had been preceded in death by three
brothers and four sisters.
Funeral
services for
Dale were held on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Ivy Log
Baptist Church
with the Rev. Jerry Karnes and Rev. Tony Black officiating. The body was in state at the church Sunday
from 2:30 until 3 p.m. Music was provided
by Martha Davenport and Julie Payne. Interment
followed in the Ivy Log Cemetery
with graveside military honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard and the
U.S.
Army. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Bill Garrison, Tim Deaver, Lester Deaver, Joe Gray, Steve
Hill and
John Hill.
The
family received
friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, Saturday, July 16,
2011 6
p.m. – 9 p.m.
