Mrs.
Nancy Lynn Deyton, age 50 of Gumlog Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Thursday,
July 16, 2009 at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Deyton was born on Oct. 18, 1858 in New
York City, NY, the daughter of the late Frederick Jan Schmidt and the
late
Kathleen Lally Schmidt. Nancy was the
manager of McDonald’s for over fifteen years then owned and operated
Nancy’s
Pizza and Subs on the Town Square in Blairsville for several years. She loved animals, camping, the outdoors and was a friend to all. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother,
sister and grandmother. Nancy was a
member of Revival Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs.
Deyton are her loving husband, Wayne Deyton of Blairsville, father,
Charles
Rollo of Mt. Sinai, NY, five children, Rob and Stephanie Frank, Chris
Phillips,
Tracy and Jeff Henderson, Tara and Jeff Hall, Cheyenne Dillard all of
Blairsville, two step sons, Joshua and Matthew Deyton of Blairsville,
one
sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Lee Madsen of Sparta, NJ, five
brothers
and one sister-in-law, Ricky Schmidt of Westminster, MD, Patrick and
Lori
Schmidt of Blairsville, Pete Schmidt of Tarpon Springs, FL, Eric Rollo
of Palm
Harbour, FL, Kurt Schmidt of Deerfield Beach, FL, seven grandchildren,
Cayla,
Jordan, Niomi, Karina, Kennedy, Destiny and Desirae, many other
relatives and
friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 3 p.m. from the revival
Baptist
Church with the Rev. Tommy Seay, Rev. Tim Renshaw and Rev. Ray Potts
officiating. Special music was presented
by The Renshaw
family and Kevin and Jodie Garrett.
Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth, Ronald and Matt Deyton,
Pat, Matt
and Rick Schmidt. Interment followed in
the
Revival Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from
6-9 p.m.

David
L. Troyer, age 50 of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, July
12, 2009
in Ohio, He was
born in Canton on May 15, 1959 to Eli B. and Judith A. (Wile) Troyer,
graduated
from lake High School, and was a carpenter by trade.
A favorite pastime was driving his 1985 Monte
Carlo SS.
He is
survived by his son bobby (Misty) Troyer and grandson
Eli all of GA; parents Bill and Judy Troyer of Uniontown; grandmother
Lois Wile
of Akron; siblings Debbie (Jon) Miller of North canton, Darrell Troyer
of
Uniontown; and many other relatives and friends. Calling
hours were held Friday, July 17 from
10-12 noon in Hartville Mennonite Church and services began at noon in
the
church with Pastor Ross Miller officiating.
Donations may be made to the family.
In Georgia,
a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Mr.
Jeffery
Lynn Sullivan age 57 of Cozy Cove Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Thursday,
July 16, 2009 following a brief illness.
Mr. Sullivan was born on Nov. 16, 1951 in Ft. Pierce, FL, the
son of
Horace Sullivan and the late Phyllis Simon Sullivan.
Jeff loved to hunt,
fish and spend time with his family. He
was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a brother,
Christopher Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan was a
member of Harvest Fellowship Church.
Surviving Mr.
Sullivan are his loving wife Sheila Barrett Sullivan of Blairsville,
father,
Horace Sullivan of Blairsville, four children, Jennifer and Sam Rentz
of Lake
Wells, FL, Cole and Andrea Sullivan of Blairsville, DruAnn Sullivan of
Dallas,
GA, Donnie and Sonya Ledford of Young Harris, one brother, Tim Sullivan
and
Sherry of Blairsville, one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Gary
Shook of
Hiawassee, eight grandchildren, Adrianna, Myia, Seth, Caleb, Hunter,
Isaih
(sis), Haley and Jada, several cousins, nieces, nephews, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.

services were held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Mike Youngblood and Rev. John Davis officiating. Special music was presented by Julie
Youngblood and Michelle Collins. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Dennis Bixby, Thomas
Grissom, Jason
Webb, Steven Barrett, Larry Stover and H.B. Davenport Interment followed in the Meadow View
Cemetery. The family met with friends at

William
B. Owens, Sr., of Suches, GA, known as Grandpa Bill and Bloop, passed
away at
his residence on July 13, 2009 after a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents
Willie and Lucie Bruce Owens of Cartersville, GA.
He is
survived by Peggy, his wife of 63 years, son and
daughter-in-law Billy and Carol Owens of Suches, daughter and
son-in-law Penny
and Bob Waller of Chattanooga and daughter Lucie Scales of Suches. Also surviving are grandsons Lt. Col. James
Barker and fiancée Sarah Stronsky of Bethesda, MD, Brian and Jessica
Owens of
Athens, GA, Ben Bowers of Chattanooga, Reid and Lisa Owens of Suches
and Curtis
Owens of Suches. Surviving granddaughters
are daisy Rickets of Chattanooga and Mary Candler Scales of Greensboro,
NC. Great-grandchildren are Troy Barker
of Hickory, NC, jack Rickets of Chattanooga, Joshua Owens of Suches,
Elizabeth
Drew Rickets of Chattanooga and Taylor Kitchens of Suches.
Several special nieces and nephews also
survive.
Bill
graduated from Tech High School in Atlanta and attended
Georgia Tech until he was called to the army in WWII.
He served with the 15th Forward Artillery
Observation Battalion in Africa, Anzio and Italy for 3½ years, a
unit that was on the front lines for a record 534
continuous days with earned them a special commendation.
After the war’s end he became a 59 year
member of plumbers Local #72 and joined his family in a plumbing shop
in the
Buckhead area for 33 years.
Bill was
active in the Georgia Lions Club, having been
president of the Brookhaven Club, the Union County club and was a life
member
of the Towns County Lions. He received
the highest award, the Melvin Jones Award, was elected to the Georgia
Lions
Hall of Fame and served as Sergeant at Arms for over thirty years. He served as Commander of VFW post 7394 of
Union County, was a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114 and a
lifetime
member of the Yaraab Shrine Club. He
served many years on the Blue Ridge Mountain EMC board and worked for
over
seven years with the U.S. Forest Service, taking care of the water
system at
Lake Winfield Scott recreation area. He
was a founding member of the Union County Volunteer Fire Department
station in
Suches and was very involved with the Woody Gap School, working many
hours in
the concession stand during basketball season.
As his health declined he sold raffle tickets to support the
fire
department and the Gaddistown Homemakers’ scholarship efforts at the
Suches
General Store. He also joined Jim nelson
in raising funds for the chamber of Commerce July 4th fireworks in
Blairsville.
The family
held visitation at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Tuesday, July
14 from
6 to 9 PM and graveside services were at the Zion Baptist Church
Cemetery on
Wolfpen Gap Road in Suches on Wednesday, July 15 at 11 AM.
Participating were the Allegheny Masonic
Lodge #114, a VFW honor guard and the Lions Club. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Bill Owens Scholarship Fund at the Woody Gap School, 3736 State
Highway 60,
Suches, GA 30572 or to the Lions Lighthouse,
Clairmont
Rd., Atlanta GA.

donald wilburn (buck) fortenberry
Mr.
Donald
Wilburn (Buck) Fortenberry age 59 of Pond Rd., Blairsville went to be
with the
Lord on Monday, July 13, 2009 from his home following an extended
illness. Mr. Fortenberry was born on Feb.
24, 1950 in
Union County, the
son of the late Edmond Fortenberry and the late Dora Phillips
Fortenberry. Donald was a member of
Allegheny Lodge #114
F&AM. He was a loving husband,
father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.
He worked at Georgia Boot for over fifteen
years and in his early years he raised collards for several years. He was preceded in death by a brother, T.N.
Fortenberry. Buck was a member of
Friendship Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr.
Fortenberry are his loving wife and best friend of forty years, Joan
Long
Fortenberry of Blairsville, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeff
and Mary
Fortenberry, Donnie and Lisa Fortenberry, Jonathan Fortenberry all of
Blairsville, one daughter, Donna Fortenberry and David Hughes of
Blairsville,
three sisters and one brother-in-law, Frankie Carney of Blairsville,

Mrs.
Maudell Walker Nicholson, age 89 of Blairsville, GA
(better known as Granny Dell) passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009
following a
period of declining health. She was born
to the late Nolon and Flaura (Odom) Walker on march
25, 1920 in Union County, GA. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Randall Nicholson and a
son, Mr.
James Robert Nicholson. She is survived
by her nieces, Connie Duncan and Kathy Brackett, both of Blairsville,
GA; a
sister-in-law, Beulah Dietz, of Hiawassee, GA; many special friends,
all of her
loving neighbors, and the many neighborhood adopted grandchildren.
She will
be truly missed.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 4 PM
from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Dolly Rogers
officiating. Pallbearers were: Luke
Hedden, Justin Lance,
Dean Stanley, Brad Hutson, and James Fortenberry. Music
was provided by Amy Underwood. Interment was in Union
Memory Gardens cemetery (sic) in Blairsville, GA.
