Mrs.
Ruth Stamey Jones, age 78, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Saturday, July
19, 2008 at her residence.
Mrs.
Jones was born Wednesday, February 12, 1930 in Clay
County, North Carolina, to the late Fulmer Stamey and the late Lillie
Smith
Stamey. She was a member of Young Cane
Church of God and was preceded in death by two sisters and six
brothers.
Survivors
include her loving husband, Avery Jones of Blairsville; son &
daughter-in-law, David Denny and Shirley Jones of Dallas, GA; daughter
&
son-in-law, Barbara and Sam Nichols of Blairsville; son, Benny Jones of
Marietta, GA; grandson, Leslie Dirk Jones; granddaughter, Amanda
McBride;
grandson, Jimmy Nichols; grandson, Jason Jones; grandson, Brad Jones;
great
grandchildren: Alex Avery Jones, Erica Jones, Kendyl McBride, Mckenize
Jones,
Tristan Avery Jones and Jayden Jones.
Funeral
services were held Monday, July 21, 2008 at 2 PM from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Rhodes, Rev. William Sisum and Rev.
Junior
McTaggart officiating. Music was
provided by George and Jacqie Shangle, Tim Mason and Amanda McBride. Interment followed in Liberty Hill
Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were
the following gentlemen: Jimmy Nichols,
Leslie Jones, Brad Jones, Jason Jones, Kevin McBride, and Shannon Jones. Honorary pallbearers include: Rex Taylor,
Darren Jones, and Eland Jones.
The family

Mr. Carl
Peter Bergen age 86 of Buck Gibson Circle Blairsville passed away on
Monday,
July 14, 20088 in the Angel Medical Center following an extended
illness. Mr. Bergen was born on June 22,
1922 in
Saskatchewan Canada, the son of the late Henry E. Bergen and the late
Minnie
Reddig Bergen. Mr. Bergen was a School
Bus Driver for the Union County School System for many years. He also owned and operated Bergen Tire of
Blairsville for several years. He was a
loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha
Frentz. Mr. Bergen was a member of the
Church of the Nazarene of Blairsville.
Surviving
Mr. Bergen are his loving wife Viola Bergen of Blairsville, one son and
daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane Bergen of Pensicola, FL., two
daughters and
sons-in-law, Barbara and Benny Dalrymple of Murphy, NC, Rhonda and
Carey
Stegall of Stafford, VA, one sister, Alma Kowalko of British Columbia,
seven
grandchildren, Karen Decker, Jonathan and Melissa Dalrymple, Chris
Bergen,
Candice Busbee, Allison and Gregory Stegall, twelve great
grandchildren, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 4 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Bohler officiating. Special music was presented by
Mary Nell Yahl and Ken Fuller. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers, Jonathan Dalrymple, Chris Bergen, Greg Stegall, Mitch
Decker, Josh
Bergen and Chris Busbee. Serving as
honorary pallbearers were Toby Laster, Bobby Gibby and Glover Brown. Interment
followed in Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.

Billie Evelyn Thomas, age 78, of McDonough, GA, formerly of
Blairsville, passed
away on Friday, July 18, 2008 in the Sacred Journey Hospice following

extended illness.
Surviving
Mrs. Thomas are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sandra Thomas

McDonough, GA, grandsons, James and Zackary Thomas, both of McDonough,

brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Joe and Colleen Holloway of Jackson,

niece,

Mrs.
Helen Todd Smith age 83 of Trackrock Gap Rd., Blairsville passed away
on
Monday, July 14, 2008 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta following
a brief
illness. Mrs. Smith was born on April
28, 1925 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Robert Franklin
Todd and
the late Banner Bright Thompson Todd.
Helen was the former owner of Helen’s Sports Wear.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother
and great grandmother. Mrs. Smith was a
member of Zebulon Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Smith are her loving husband of sixty-three years, Zeb Smith of
Blairsville, three sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary and Sandy Smith
of
Tallahassee, FL, Zeb C. Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Ricky Smith of
Blairsville, one sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Billy Tilley of
Mint Hill,
NC, one brother, Larry Todd of Rockhill, SC, seven grandchildren,
Tammy, Ben,
Taylor, Ashley, Kara, Sarah, Jeffery and Spencer, four great
grand-children,
Kalie, Cooper, Reece and Hunter, many
other relatives and friends also survive.

Atlanta memorial Park in Doraville.
Hubbard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of Norcross
Masonic
Lodge #228 F. & A.M. and a retired postmaster.
He is
survived by his daughter and son-in-law Ronnie and “Babs” Camp of
Duluth, son
and daughter-in-law Richard and Barbara Baxter of Cumming, GA;
grandchildren,
Lisa Bailey, Kenneth Camp, and Karen Camp Parks, Michelle Sadler, David
and
Danielle Cheek; and great grandchildren, Aubrey parks, and Drew Cheek.

Robert
Edward Hess, age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, July 20,
2008 at
Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Robert was
born Saturday, December 18, 1920 in Kent County, MI, to the late Otto
Hess and
the late Elizabeth Gollmer Hess. Mr.
Hess had moved to Blairsville in 2000, coming here from Cumming, GA. He was a member of St. Simons Island
Presbyterian Church and a WWII U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors
include: wife, Wynnelle Jordan Hess; daughter, Holly Hess, both of
Blairsville,
and sister, Patricia Ennis of Tucson, Arizona.
No
