mrs. myrtle winn

 

            Mrs. Myrtle Winn, 83, of Blairsville, passed away Monday, July 14, 1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville. 

Mrs. Winn was born May 26, 1914, in Union County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Newt Collins; and Lissie Nix Collins.  She was a homemaker and a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.  Mrs. Winn and her husband moved to Colorado in 1947, and moved back to Union County in 1977. 

            Surviving are her husband, Albert Winn, of Blairsville; nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Benny Nix and Rev. Howard Collins officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Lamar Collins, Voy Youngblood, Charles Spiva, Gene Spiva, Don Winn, and Kenneth Winn.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Dennis Hamby and Bill Foster.  Interment was in Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. bonnie nichols ownbey

 

            Mrs. Bonnie Nichols Ownbey, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 1997 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee. 

Mrs. Ownbey was born in Union County, Georgia, on June 16, 1923, a daughter of the late John Nichols and Callie Rector Nichols.  She was a lifelong resident of this area.  Mrs. Ownbey was a school teacher and a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  She had been preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hughes in 1957, and husband, Barney Ownbey, in 1987. 

            Surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Ellard and Anna Lou Nichols of Blairsville; sister, Flossie wise (sic) of Marietta, GA.; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Nichols of Blairsville; five stepchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, July 12, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  Special music was presented by Kathy Stroud.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bill Abernathy, Larry Brackett, Bobby Jackson, Sam Nichols, Lake Stroud and Charles Worden.  Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. henry l. krigline

 

            Mr. Henry L. Krigline, age 58, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 14, 1997 following a brief illness.  Mr. Krigline was born in Washington, PA the son of the late Frank and Isabel Feather Krigline.  Mr. Krigline was a veteran and was an auto mechanic.

Mr. Krigline is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carol Krigline of Blairsville, GA. and his son Mr. Michael Krigline of Blairsville, GA.  Privet (sic) services were held at the home.  Banister Funeral Home of Young Harris in charge of arrangements.

mrs. birdie ingram young

 

            Mrs. Birdie Ingram Young, age 100, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville. 

Mrs. Young was born in Sunburst, North Carolina, on September 25, 1896, a daughter of the late Fate Ingram and Jane Winchester Ingram.  She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in this area.  Mrs. Young was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  Her husband, Zeke Young, and three sons, Allan Young, Floyd Young, and J.B. Young, preceded her in death. 

            Surviving are daughters, Pauline McCarter of Blairsville and Loujine (sic) Shuler of Walden, Colorado; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, 1997 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Signers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bill McCarter, Jeff McCarter, Jimmy McCarter, Joe Colwell, Matt Shuler, Ben Collins, Jay McCarter, and Daniel Davenport.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. bertha jane byers

 

            Mrs. Bertha Jane Byers, age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville. 

Mrs. Byers was born in Union County, Georgia, on February 10, 1912, a daughter of the late Sterling White and Mary Ann Everett White.  She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mrs. Byers was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  Her husband, Dewey Byers, passed away in 1975. 

            Surviving are daughter, Joyce Durham of Blairsville; son, Carlton Edward Byers, of Sandy Springs, GA.; and son, Larry Byers, of Woodbridge, VA.; six grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive, along with several nieces, nephews other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. James Brock and Rev. Timothy Carlton Byers officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Eric Byers, Jason Byers, David Byers, Kenneth White, Charles Lewis, and Rufus Everett.  Interment was in Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery in Fannin County.

            Mrs. Grace Bell Anderson, age 71, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 17, 1997. 

Mrs. Anderson was born in Union County, on April 7, 1926, a daughter of the late Abraham Anderson and Mae Ledford Anderson.  She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area.  Mrs. Anderson was a member of  Faith Baptist Church.   

            Surviving are daughter, Annie Rose Bingham of Canton, GA.; son, Danny Key, of Tunnel Hill, GA.; daughter, Joan Buchanan of Commerce, GA.; daughter, Karen Ivester of Pine Lake, GA.; daughter, Maxine Trogden of Blairsville; and son, Joseph Ivester of Blairsville; brothers, Garnett Anderson and Hobert Anderson, both of Blairsville; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Frank Visser officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: George Trogden, Randall Anderson, Jerry Dockery, Craig Hughes, Jim Buchanan, and Harold Bingham.  Interment was in Bethelbara Cemetery.

mrs. pearl victoria collins

 

            Mrs. Pearl Victoria Collins, age 95, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 14, 1997 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.  Mrs. Collins was born December 15, 1901.  A daughter of the late James Townsend and Mary Lou Hood Townsend.  She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area.  Mrs. Collins was a member of  Choestoe Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by husbands, Joe Dyer in 1932 and Uley Collins in 1964; and sons, Nathan Dyer, J.C. Dyer, and Eugene Collins. 

            Surviving are son, Vaughn Dyer of Blairsville; daughters, Irene Robinson of Young Harris, GA.; Juanita Sullivan of Flint, Michigan; Maver Swanson of Young Harris, GA.; Ethelene Espey of Atlanta; sons William C. Dyer of Flint, Michigan; Archie Collins of Blairsville;  Jim Collins of Blairsville; many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Choestoe Baptist Church with Rev. James Geer and Rev. Henry Loggins officiating.  Special music was presented by John and Clayton Nix, and Kenneth Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Hoyt Townsend, Tony Dye, Terry Dyer, Dr. David Gowder, Mike Vaughn, and David Jones.  Serving as Honorary escort to the family was Jack Swanson, Jack Robinson, Dayton Dyer, Dr. George Gowder, and Doug Dyer.  Interment was in Choestoe Cemetery, under the direction of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.

mr. wayne bowling

 

            Mr. Wayne Bowling, age 80, of Nokomis, Florida, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 1997 in a Venice, Florida hospital.  Mr. Bowling was a native of Union County, but had lived and worked in Michigan for 30 years before retiring and moving to Florida. 

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Belle McGlamery Bowling of Nokomis, Florida; son, Jerry Bowling of Atlanta; daughter, Betsy McCoy of Ypsilanti, Michigan; sister, Cora Denney of Blairsville; and brother, Frank Bowling of Valdosta, TA., four grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by the Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Sam McCoy, Jerry Bowling, Andy Bowling, Frank Denney, Jr., Blake Batley, and Ben Deitz.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was frank Denney.  Interment was in  Providence Methodist Church Cemetery, under the direction of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.

mr. john a. baggett

 

            Mr. John A. Baggett, age 50, of Union County, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 19, 1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville. 

Mr. Baggett  was born in Catoosa County, Georgia, on November 5, 1946.  He was a veteran of the U.S. navy.  He had lived in the area for the past seventeen years.  Mr. Baggett was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church and a member of Young Cane Masonic Lodge, 597. 

            Surviving are his wife, Barbara Rogers Baggett of the home; children, Michele Blevins of Ringgold, GA., Stephanie Bentley of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA., Christian Barfield of Rock Springs, GA., Brian and Bret Davenport, both of Blairsville; and Sheila Partin and Sherry Langston, also both of Blairsville; brothers, Jack Wendell and James Baggett, all of Ringgold, Georgia, and Clarence Baggett of Soddy daisy, TN.; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, 1997 at 4 p.m. from Youngstown Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Loys Waters officiating.  Special music was presented by Youngstown Church Choir and the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Lonnie Wright, Steve Worley, Charles Langstown, Eddy parting, Kenneth Arrant, and Charles Daniel.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.
