nan siron nelson

 

Mrs. Nan Siron Nelson, age 77 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at her home.  Mrs. Nelson was born Monday, September 2, 1929 in Lexington, IL to the late Floyd Siron and the late Litta Breese Siron.  She married Roger Lee Nelson on August 19, 1957 in Hugo, OK.  He passed away in 2005.  She attended Illinois State Normal and graduated from Michigan State Normal in 1951.  She began her 24 year career teaching English and History in Clinton, IL and from there, Morris, IL, Longview, TX, Kansas City, KS, Miami, FL and finally Tallahassee, FL.  In 1979, she retired from teaching while at Godby High School.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Donna Nelson of Bainbridge, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Juliana and Dan Hennig of Gonzales, TX, brother and sister-in-law, Floyd Keith and Lillian Siron of Morris, IL, brother, Paul Siron of Joliet, IL, sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Richard Arends of Bayles Lake at Loda, IL, sisters-in-law, Verneil and Doris Siron of Lexington, IL, grandson, Hunter Nelson of Tallahassee, FL, granddaughter, Katherine Nelson of Tallahassee, FL, 14 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lexington, IL, with the Pastor David Bergeline officiating. The family received friends at the Calvert-Musselman Funeral Home in Lexington, Friday, July 20th from 5 until 7 p.m.  Interment followed in Lexington Cemetery.  There will be another visitation in Blairsville, GA at Cochran Funeral Home from 10-12, Wednesday, July 25.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Sue Upchurch, 4344 Mulkey Gap Road, Blairsville, GA 30512 or to Regency Hospice, P.O. Box 494, Hiawassee, GA 30546.

randal clinton mcdonald

 

Mr. Randal Clinton McDonald, age 36, of Garrett Rd., Blairsville, GA, formerly of Athens, TN, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 following an apparent heart attack.  Mr. McDonald was born on February 21, 1917 in Loudon County, TN, the son of Jerry Allen McDonald and Carolyn Howard McDonald.  He was a loving husband and a friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.  Mr. McDonald was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. McDonald are his loving wife, Olivia Wilson McDonald of Blairsville; two children, Felicity and Trey Wilson of Blairsville; father and stepmother, Jerry and Roberta McDonald of Loudon, TN; mother and stepfather, Carolyn and John Hensley of Athens, TN; stepfather, William A. Stephens of Winfield, TN; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Melissa Redman of Athens, TN, Crystal Hopping of Loudon, TN, Melissa and Willard Martin of Oneida, TN; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Anthony and Sherri Stephens of Niota, TN, Billy Stephens of Oneida, TN; mother-in-law, Barbara Wilson of Blairsville; sister-in-law, Ashley Grant of Blairsville; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones, Rev. Ralph Redman and Rev. Robert Peeples officiating.  Special music was presented by Tammy Hughes.  Interment and graveside services followed at 5 p.m. from the Loudon County memorial gardens Cemetery in Lenior City, TN with Rev. Chris Hamilton officiating.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m.

frances horney

 

A Homecoming Celebration for Mrs. Frances Horney, age 72 of Suches, GA was held Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Suches.  Burial was in the church cemetery with Rev. Russell Lyle officiating.

A native of Orlando, FL, Mrs. Horney had lived in Suches for the past 10 years.  She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Suches.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer society or Zion Baptist Church.  No visitation was held at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Horney, Sr. of Suches; daughters, Jodie McKnight of St. Charles, IL, Julie Renee Barr of Cartersville, GA; son, Johnnie Horney, Jr. of Orlando, FL; brothers, Billy Thurman of Jacksonville, AL, Alvin Thurman of Orlando, FL; 2 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law; 7 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; and 2 great-grandchildren.

rebecca elaine “becky” durkin

 

Mrs. Rebecca Elaine (better known as Becky) Durkin, age 52, of Chestnut Oak Lane, Blairsville passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Durkin was born on January 5, 1955 in hall County, GA, the daughter of Harvey Crawford and Christine Adams Crawford.  She had made her home in Blairsville since 1998, moving here from Gainesville.  Becky was a mighty prayer warrior for the Lord.  Mrs. Durkin was a member of new Hope Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Durkin are one daughter and son-in-law, April and Dean Cook of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel and Lori Watson of Oakwood, GA; mother, Christine Spain of Blairsville; father, Harvey Crawford of MO; aunt, Carolyn Lancaster of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Abby, Dalton, Reid, Savana and Jerin; cousins, Gene and Faye Phillips of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.  Special music was presented by Alice McDonald, Heidi Sosebee, Cindy Whitmore and Sandy Gribble.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Chip Cribble, Stacy Strickland, Rodney Beasley, Gabriel Watson, Dean Cook and Johnny Whitmore.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m.

richard lee “mac” Mcadams

 

Mr. Richard Lee “Mac” McAdams Sr., age 78, of Holly Cove Circle, Blairsville, GA, formerly of Winter Haven, FL, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  R. McAdams was born on January 31, 1929 in Greensboro, NC, the son of the late Clarence and Jessie Wilson McAdams.  He was a veteran of the U.S. navy of the Korean War.  He was employed for over thirty years with Independent Life Insurance company.  Richard enjoyed the beach and the mountains of North Carolina and Georgia.  He loved to go camping and just sitting around a camp fire.  He spenat many hours with his woodworking projects and his painting.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thaddeus and C.E. McAdams.  Mr. McAdams was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. McAdams are his loving wife, Donna McAdams of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Clare McAdams of Orlando, FL; one daughter, Shelley Henderson of Tallahassee, FL; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Jimmy Edwards of Lynn haven, FL; grandchildren, Ann Bumgardner of Wilmington, NC, Richard W. McAdams of Washington, DC, Sam McAdams of Winter Have, FL, Casey Henderson, Brooke Henderson and Bailey Henderson all of Tallahassee, FL; step-grandchildren, Mina and River C. Edwards both of Lynn Haven, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles from NC and SC, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A private family memorial service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice in Richard’s memory.
