Mr.
Richard Stanley Jenkins, age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Monday,
July 20, 1998 at his home, following an extended illness.
Mr. Jenkins
was born in Etowah County, Alabama on Monday, March 21, 1938, a son of the late Lonnie Jenkins and Irene Smith
Jenkins. He was a veteran of the US Navy,
and had been
employed with building construction. Mr.
Jenkins had lived in this area since 1983, coming here from Gadsden,
Alabama.
Surviving
are his wife, Gaynelle, of Blairsville; daughters:
Terri Johnson, of Albertville, Alabama; Karen Riddlespur, of Marietta,
GA; and
Robin Crawford, of Gadsden; son Richard Dale Jenkins, of Gadsden;
step-son,
Michael Rogers, of Kennesaw, GA; brothers: James, George, Doug and
Steve
Jenkins, all of Gadsden; sisters: Betty Weatherby, of Gadsden, Lucy
Brandt, of
Lawrenceville, GA, and Gail Chumm, of Smyrna, GA; 7 grandchildren, and
a step
grandchild also survive, along with many friends an other relatives.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 22, 1998 at 4
p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev.
Eddie
herring officiating. Special music was
presented
by Mike Johnston, with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers:
Sam
Robert and Tony Guy, Edgar Lee, Chad Smith, and Michael Rogers. Interment was in Crestwood Cemetery, in
Gadsden, Alabama, with Cochran Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs.
Holland, age 67, of Blairsville, GA died Thursday, July 23, 1998 at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Mrs.
Holland was born in Waycross, GA on march
30, 1931,
the daughter of Wiley Julian Holland, Sr. and Carol (Cannon) Holland. She married Charles Edward Sampson in June
1950 in Thomasville, GA.
She worked
for 25 years at Southern Bell, went to the First Baptist Church of
Blairsville,
graduated from Thomasville High School in 1950, was a Thomasville
native,
long-time resident of Miami, FL, and retired to Blairsville. GA.
She was
preceded in death by a son, Charles Edward Sampson, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Charles
Edward Sampson of Blairsville, GA; sons and daughter-in-laws: Alton and
Patricia Sampson of Thomasville, GA and Bryan and Kelly Sampson of
Blairsville,
GA; grandson/adopted son, Dustin Sampson of Blairsville, GA; grandson,
Nicholas
Sampson of Thomasville, GA; sisters: Jean DuPre of Thomasville, GA and
Martha
Ann Paramore of Young Harris, GA; and brother, Julian Holland of
Alexandria,
VA.
The funeral
was held at Dawson Street Baptist Church on Saturday, July 25th at 2
p.m. with
the Rev. Don McMillan and the Rev. Dr. William Connell officiating. Interment was in the Laurel Hill
Cemetery. Allen &
Allen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs.
Mary Turner Jackson, age 81, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Sunday, July
12, 1998, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Mrs.
Jackson was born on Friday, may 25, 1917, in Union County, Georgia, to
James
Lon Turner and Jane Wimpey Turner. She
was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a member of First United
Methodist Church in Union County. Preceding
her in death was husband, Kermit Jackson; husband Arlen Jackson; son,
Bill
Jackson; and grandson, Manning Gracia.
Surviving are her daughter, Margaret
Jane Gracia, of new Bedford,
Massachusetts; five stepchildren: Gail Skinner and Sandy Jackson, both
of
Powder Springs, GA; Nellie Jackson of Memphis, TN; Bill Jackson of
Louisville,
TX; and Bryon Jackson, of jasper, AL; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 15, 1998 at 11
a.m. from Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Herring and Rev.
Charles
Black officiating. Special music was
presented
by Ken and Elaine Young. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bill Collins, Carlton Collins, Larry
Turner,
Gary Turner, James H. Turner, and Truitt Crumbley.
Interment was in harmony Grove Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Mrs.
Minnie Glenora Howland, age 96, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Tuesday,
July 21, 1998 in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Howland was born in Pierce county, North
Dakota on
Sunday June 29, 1902, a daughter of the late Clarence McGrew and Cora
Kraut
McGrew. She was the widow of the late
John Benjamin Howland.
Surviving
are her son-in-law, Gene Sanderlin, of California; grandchildren,
Christine
Harkins, of Blairsville, and Jeffrey Sanderlin, of Cocoa Florida; and
great-grandchildren, Call Pollard, Jeffrey Sanderlin, Zona and
Christopher
Sanderlin.

Mrs.
Alwayne Stalcup Martin, age 87, of Blairsville, GA passed away Friday,
July 24,
1998 in Winder, GA following an extended illness.
Mrs. Martin
was born in Cherokee County, NC, on Saturday, March 11, 1911, a
daughter of the
late Alexander Richardson Stalcup and Ada Haney Stalcup.
She was a homemaker and had lived in this
area for most of her life. Mrs. Martin
had been preceded in death by her husband, Frank Martin, St., in 1987,
and her
son, Frank Mrtin, Jr., in 1997. She was
of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are
her sons: Jack Martin of Blairsville, GA and Samuel martin of Lyman,
SC;
daughters: Dolores Upchurch of Decatur, GA, Mary Groves of Monroe, Ga
and Dot
McKie of Lawrenceville, GA; sisters: Ira Chastain of Murphy, NC, Fannie
Smart
of Hayesville, NC, and Juanita Thomas of Akron, OH; brothers: Horace
Stalcup of
Murphy, NC, Lake Stalcup of Akron, OH and Charles Stalcup of oak Ridge,
OR; 7
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and
other relatives
also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, July 26, 1998 from the
chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with the Rev. Horace
Potts officiating. Specially selected
music was presented by Ken
and Elaine Young. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: D.L. martin, Gary Groves, George
Bairaktaris,
Edward Sexton, Leroy Stalcup, and Charles Hemphill.
Interment was in martin Family Cemetery in
Blairsville.

Mr.
Earl J. Sherman, age 87, of Blairsville, GA and Miami, FL died
Saturday, July
25, 1998 in a Murphy medical center. A
native of Kansas City, MO, he moved to Miami in 1944.
In 1980, he became a seasonal resident of
Blairsville, GA. He was the son of the
late James M. and Martha Ann Scott Sherman.
He was a veteran of the US Army Medical Corp.
He was a latter carrier for 40 years with the
US Postal Service in Miami. He was a
member of Rader Memorial Methodist Church in Miami, FL.
He was preceded
in death by a great-grandson, John Ryan Nelson, who died in 1995.
Surviving
are his wife of 54 years, Ethel W. Sherman; a daughter, Sandra S.
Shenkmen and
husband, Steve, of Miami; a son, Gary W. Sherman and wife, Carolyn, of
West
Palm beach, FL; a sister Vivan Heiney and husband, Lewis, or Texas;
three
grandchildren, Kristin N. Siros and husband, Don, of Columbus, SC, John
Scott
Nelson and wife, Tina, of Italy, and Eric M. Sherman of West Palm
Beach, FL;
and a great-granddaughter, Hannah M. Nelson of Italy.
Memorial
services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28 in Zion
Methodist Church in Blairsville, GA with the Revs. Dan
Savage
and Greg Wood officiating. A
memorial service is also planned for a later date in Miami, FL.
The
