Mr.
George Wilson Bristol, age 84, of Blairsville, GA, died Friday, July
18, 1997
in a Union County Hospital.
He was a
native of Clay County, NC, and was a retired school
teacher with forty-one years of service.
He also worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He was a loyal Atlanta Braves baseball fan
and enjoyed all other types of athletics.
He was the son of the late Samuel Johnson and Nina Irene Evans
Bristol.
Mr.
Bristol is survived by one son, Jennings W. Bristol of
Powder Springs, GA; four daughters, Gloria B. Deaton of Hiawassee, GA.,
Sandra
B. Brancel of Blairsville, GA., Judith B. Tyner of Las Vegas, NV., and
Elizabeth B. Malte of Marietta, GA.; four brothers, William J. Bristol
of
Springfield, OR., Edgar B. Bristol of Dunellon, (sic) FL., Zane F.
Bristol of
east Point, GA., and Richard Bristol of Hayesville, NC.; one sister,
Nancy B.
Young of Dunwoody, GA.; eleven grandchildren and five great
grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, July 20, 1997 at the Townson Rose Frank
Rose, Sr.
memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC.
Eulogies were given by Jennings W. Bristol, Bill gray, and
Howard W.
Brancel. Burial was in Hayesville
Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers were:
Jennings Bristol, Randy Bristol, Todd Bristol, Richard Bristol, Zane
Bristol,
and Arnold Abernathy. Honorary
pallbearers were Ben Neece, Gary Callahan and William Cheek.
The
family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July
19, 1997 at the Townson Rose Chapel in Hayesville, NC.

Mrs.
Helen
Faye Collins Brown, age 71, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday,
July 23, 1997.
Mrs.
Brown was born in Union County, Georgia on April 1,
1926, a daughter of the late James Vester Collins and Nellie Gillispie
Collins. She was a homemaker and a
lifelong resident of this area. Mrs.
Brown was instrumental in the organizing of Union-Towns Training
Center, now
knows as Trackrock Industries. She was
also active in her community as a caregiver.
Surviving
are her husband, Johnny Brown, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law,
Gwen
and Earl Odom, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Norma
Brown,
of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Kathy Brown, of
Gainesville;
daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Charles Brackett, of Blairsville;
and son
and daughter-in-law, Chris and Ida Brown of Dahlonega, GA.; brothers
and
sisters-in-law, Ford and Ruth Collins of Lula, GA., and Gene and Ellen
Collins
of Blairsville; 12 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, July 25, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran Funeral
Home of Blairsville with Rev. Waymon Lovell and Rev. Ronnie Abernathy
officiating. Music was presented by the
Combined Choirs of
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Old Liberty Baptist Church. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Truett Brackett, Bill
Jackson, Ed Rohrbaugh, Steve Odom, Jason Martin, and Eugene Pope. Interment
was in Old
Liberty Baptist Church

Mr.
Prince L. Byers, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday,
July 7,
1997 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr. Byers
was born in Fannin County, Georgia, on April 7,
1923, a son of the late Fitzhugh Byers and Delia Lance Byers. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War
II. Mr. Byers was a carpenter and was
lifelong resident of this area. He was a
member of Confidence Methodist Church and was also a member of
Allegheny
Masonic Lodge #114, F&AM. In 1992, a
son, Randy Byers, preceded him in death.
Surviving
are son, Daniel L. Byers of Hiram, GA.; daughter, Donna Dyer of
Blairsville;
son, Ken Byers of Marietta; son, Gene Cook of Blairsville; brother,
Carl Byers
of Blairsville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 9, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.
Special music was presented by Mary and Steve
Newton. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Scott Byers, Sean Byers, Tim Cook, Jack Byers, Matt
Cook,
Raymond Byers, and Carlton Byers. Interment
was in Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Sidney
Oliver Hazzard, age 78, of Helen, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville,
Georgia,
passed away Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at his home.
Mr.
Hazzard was a native of Connecticut, and was a veteran
of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of
Mtn. Presbyterian Church and was Past President of Brasstown Bald
Chapter of
N.A.R.F.E. He was also a member of
Washington Lodge, #5 of North Kingston, Rhode Island.
Surviving
are his wife, Dorothy Hazzard, of the home; three children, Russell
Hazzard of
Goldsboro, N.C., Hollie Hazzard Smith of glen (sic), N.H., and randy
Hazzard of
South Attleboro, Rhode Island, three grandchildren also survive.
Memorial
services are scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Mtn.
Presbyterian Church with rev. Travis Adams officiating.

Mr.
Walter Carlton Langford, age 36, of Blairsville, Georgia, died Friday,
July 25,
1997. He was the son of Irene H. and the
late Howard Langford of Blairsville, GA.
He was a former employee of The Triangle in Winder.
He graduated in 1980 from Winder-Barrow High
School.
Surviving
are three brothers, Eddie, Gary, and Greg Langford, all of Winder, GA.;
a
number of nieces and nephews also survive.

were held Monday, July 28, 1997 at the Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral
Home,

Geer.

mrs. betty williams richardson
Mrs.
Betty
Williams Richardson, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday, July
25, 1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Richardson was a native of South
Carolina, and was a homemaker. She was
born on January 14, 1925, a daughter of the late Coleman Osborne
Williams, and
Myrtle Brown Williams. Mrs. Richardson
had lived in this area since 1987, coming here from Columbia, S.C. She was a member of Coosa Methodist Church.
Surviving
are son, James B. Richardson, Jr.; a daughter, Deborah R. Fletcher,
both of
Columbia, S.C.; brother, Coleman Williams, Jr., of Montgomery, AL.; and
brother, Dr. Fred Williams of Blairsville; two grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, July 28 1997 at 2 p.m. from Dunbar Funeral
Home in
Columbia from their Devine Street Chapel.
Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
