Mr. Fred
Mauney Akins, age 80, of Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, July 23rd at
Union
General Hospital in Blairsville. Born in Union County, he was the son
of the
late Marvin and Mollie Coker Akins. He was a retired cook for the Milton Inn and
former owner and operator of the Lakeview Restaurant.
He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
He is
survived by one son, Benny Akins of Bradenton, FL; three brothers, Pat
Akins
and Joe Akins, both of Blairsville, and Raymond Akins of Blue Ridge;
one
sister, Mary Sue Colwell of Blairsville; three grandchildren and one
great
grandchild.
Funeral
services were conducted Saturday, July 27th at 2 p.m. from Antioch
Baptist
Church with the Rev. Bill Gowder, Rev. Danny Parris, and Rev. B.A.
Buchanan
officiating. Music was by the Antioch
Choir. The following nephews served as
pallbearers: Doug Akins, Van Akins, Chet Akins, Larry Akins, Milton
Akins, and
Jimmy Colwell. Interment followed in the
church cemetery under the direction of Akins Funeral Home of Blue
Ridge.

Mr.
James Elmer Payne, age 87, of Skeenah Gap Road, Suches, Georgia passed
away
Sunday, July 21st following an extended illness. Born
in Union County, Georgia, he was the son
of the late Gene and Martha Cook Payne.
He was a retired farmer, and a member of Friendship #1 Baptist
Church.
He is
survived by two sons, Harold Payne, and ray Payne, both of Suches; two
sisters,
Effie Water of Smyrna, Georgia, and Lenna Whitlock of Mableton,
Georgia; one
grandchild and three great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were conducted Tuesday, July 23rd at 2 p.m. from Friendship #1
Baptist
Church with Rev. Jay Bryant and Rev. Earl Picklesimer officiating. Music was by Dorothy Picklesimer, and Elaine
and Kenneth Young. Ricky Kendall,
Leonard Walker, J.L. Reese, George Wates, Jimmy Payne, and Clyde Payne
served as
pallbearers. Interment followed in the
church cemetery. Akins Funeral Home of
Blue Ridge was in charge of arrangements.
