james hoyt cunninghamm

 

Mr. James Hoyt Cunningham, age 74, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, July 28, 2006 at his residence.

Mr. Cunningham was born Thursday, August 6, 1931 in Union County, Georgia to the late Bluford Cunningham and Bessie Chambers Cunningham.  He was a member and deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict.  He was preceded in death by brother, Leroy Cunningham.

Survivors include: wife, Stella Cunningham of Blairsville; son & daughter-in-law, Harold and Gayle Cunningham of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Dorotha and Denny Jackson of Pekin, IL; son & daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane Cunningham of Blairsville; son & daughter-in-law, Eddie and Nancy Cunningham of Hopedale, IL; son, Jerry Cunningham of Blairsville; sisters, Betty Cunningham and Evelyn Butterworth, both of Marietta, GA; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-granchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive, along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, 2006, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Alton “Cotton” Harris and Rev. Vernon Davenport officiating.  Music was provided by Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir and The Faith Singers.  Interment followed in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen:  Mike Cunningham, Jason Cunningham, Jeff Cunningham, Nick Cunningham, Danny Cunningham, Matt Mattingly, and Clint Mattingly.  Honorary pallbearers included: Harold Plott, Bill Jones, Lewis Henderson, Richard Tanner, Roy Hefner, and Steve Abercrombie.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Sunday, July 30.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund.

clara lillian hanson

 

Mrs. Clara Lillian Hanson, age 78, of Patrice Drive Blairsville, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Hanson was born on August 12, 1927 in Italy.  The daughter, and one of seventeen children, of the late Gottfried Faltner and the late Maria Wiest Faltner.  She was preceded in death by her husband James L. Hanson in 1970.  Mrs. Hanson was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hanson are Judy Hoyer of Blairsville; four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating.  Mrs. Hanson’s favorite hymns were presented for the service.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Georgia Mountain Hospice of Jasper in Mrs. Hanson’s memory.

mae dixon

 

Mrs. Mae S. Dixon, age 83, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, July 17, 2006 in Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Dixon was born Wednesday, May 23, 1923 in Union County, GA, to the late Ben Seabolt and Evia Garrett Seabolt.  She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church was preceded in death by husband, Odes Ray Dixon and a daughter, Olean Burnette.

Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Faye and Jr. Duckworth of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Jean and J.D. Crump of Griffin, GA; son-in-law, Jr. Burnette of Suches, GA; brother, Arvil Seabolt of Suches; brother, Early Seabolt of Suches; brother, Harley Seabolt of Cleveland, GA; sister, Martha Fortenberry of Blairsville; six grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Music was provided by: Calvin Hood, Angie Kelley, and Rev. Stacy Dyer.  Interment followed in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Dewey Cox, Steve Rhoten, Danny Stephens, Anthony Stephens, Jeff Deaver, and Tim Bohannon.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 7-9, Tuesday, July 18.

pamela carol clark

 

Mrs. Pamela Carol Clark, age 56, of Wild Wood Rd., Blairsville, formerly of Boynton, FL, passed away on Wednesday July 19, 2006 at her home.  Mrs. Clark was born on July 19, 1950 in Bergen County, NJ, the daughter of the late John Howard Holly and the late Helen McMahon Holly.  She had retired from the Bethesda Memorial Hospital in 2001 as a X Ray Technician with over twenty three years of service.  Mrs. Clark was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Surviving Mrs. Clark are one son, Daniel Clark of Boynton, FL, one brother, Terry Holly of Del Ray Beach, FL., one grandchild, Madison, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Clark’s memory.

rev. ulysses ss. woody

 

Rev. Ulysses S. Woody, age 86, of Milledgeville, GA, formerly of Blairsville, passed away Monday, July 24, 2006 in the VA medical Center in Dublin, GA.

Rev. Woody was born Monday, October 20, 1919 in Cherokee Co., NC to the late John and Polly (Abernathy) Woody.  He graduated Fruitland Bible College in Hendersonville, NC, and was licensed to preach in September 1962 by Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Mills River, NC where he served as associate pastor for 16 years.  Rev. Woody also served on the deacon board of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  He was a WWII US Army Veteran, and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hedrick Woody, daughter, Karen E. Woody, and son, David P. Woody.

He is survived by a daughter, Elaine F. Woody of Milledgeville, GA.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. George cline and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Music was provided by Tammy Blasingame and Patsy Davenport.  Interment was in Union memory Gardens with military honors by the North GA Honor Guard.  Pallbearers were Stanley Stepp, Derek Stepp, Josh Stepp, Tyler Blasingame, Bill Drake, Don Michaels and Clarence Phillips.

Edward J. Scheuplein, Sr. of Blairsville, GA, passed away July 26, 2006.  Originally from Brooklyn, NY.

He is survived by his wife, Joan M.; son and daughter-in-law, Edward Jr. and Michelle of Buford, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Ann and William of Hollywood, FL; grandchildren, Megan and Edward III; brother, Carl and wife Lisa; brother, Robert; sister Dolores and husband Woodrow, and many nieces and nephews.

Remembrance services were held Sunday, July 30, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Union County, Blairsville, GA.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice in Northeast Georgia.

beatric lavina bates

 

Mrs. Beatrice Lavina Bates, age 94, of Hummingbird lane Hiawassee, formerly of Stonehenge Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Bates was born on October 9, 1911 in Milford, OH.  The daughter of the late Howard Faul and the late Alvina Becker Faul.  She was the first woman Deputy Sheriff of the Broward County Sheriff’s Department in the 1950’s.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bates in 1981.  Mrs. Bates was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving Mrs. Bates are one son and daughter-in-law, William (Bill) H. and Elizabeth Bates of Hiawassee, GA; three grandchildren, Bill, Terry, and Todd Bates; three great-grandchildren, Eric, Shannon, and Courtney Bates; many other relatives and friends also survive.

henrietta cross

 

Mrs. Henrietta Cross, age 80, of Blueberry Lane Blairsville, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Cross was born on June 10, 1926 in the Netherlands.  The daughter of the late John Veenstra and the late Martha Zinksgraven Veenstra.  Mrs. Cross was a loving wife and mother.  She was an avid gardener which she enjoyed in her past time.  Mrs. Cross was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Cross are her loving husband of forty one years, Norman H. Cross of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Norman J. and Simone cross of Rudford, MI; one daughter, Kimberly Cross of Blairsville; two nieces, Bonnie Bunker and Sherry Peal; one nephew, Freddie Britt; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Union Memory gardens Cemetery with Elder Stout officiating.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11-2 p.m.
