Mrs. Roberta S. Coker, age 94, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday evening, July 24, 2011, at her home.

Mrs. Coker was born in Union County, GA, on Friday, September 8, 1916, a daughter of the late Grady Satterfield and the late Mary Potts Satterfield.  She was a homemaker and a member of Zebulon Baptist Church in Blairsville.  In addition to her parents, she had been preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Long; a sister, Dorothea Dyer; two brothers, Frank Satterfield and Matt Satterfield; and a grandson, Michael Coker.

She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her husband of 71 years, George Alfred Coker; three sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne and Brenda Coker, of Dacula, GA; David and Geraldine Coker, of Blairsville; Bill and Carolyn Coker, of Suches, GA; son-in-law and his wife, Jerry and Lillian Long, of Jasper, GA; a sister, Louise Howell, of Brooks, GA; six grandchildren: Rhonda and Marshall Mullins, Andy and Carol Coker, Byron and Elisa Long, Vivian and Greg Hughes, Sara and Joseph Cooper, and Mollie Coker; ten great grandchildren also survive, and several nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Coker were held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Zebulon Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Hughes, Rev. Ray Potts, and Rev. R.L. Martin officiating.  Special music was presented by Junior and Carolyn Bridges, and Deanna Webster.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Olin Hughes, Junior Bridges, David Chatham, Leonard Sosebee, Kenneth Cook, and Neal Rusk.  Burial was in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation at the funeral home was held on Monday evening, from 6 until 10 p.m.

roy newton patterson

 

Mr. Roy Newton Patterson, age 79, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at his residence.  Mr. Patterson was born in Ohio, on Sunday, April 10, 1932, a son of the late Howard and the late Thelma Simmons Patterson.  Roy was a veteran of the U. S. Army, and served during the Korean War.  He had lived in Blairsville for most of his life, and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Roy loved to fish, and enjoyed his grandkids.  He was a big Atlanta Braves fan, and was a very good cook.  He had worked for a number of years in Ohio at a restaurant, the "Hasty Tasty".  In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his first wife, to whom he was married for 42 years: Marie Dunn Patterson; two brothers, Evan Patterson and Preston Patterson; and a sister, Murrell Murray.

Roy is lovingly remembered by and will be greatly missed, especially by his family: his loving wife of 11 years, Reba Patterson; three daughters and sons-in-law: Joan and Kimsey Wright, of Dial, GA; Janet and Randall Alexander, of Dayton, OH; Cathie and Jeff Daniel, of Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Faye Patterson, of Cartersville, GA, and Nelson and Sarah Patterson, of Blairsville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Norman Zecher, of Middletown, OH and Shirley and Don McClure, of McDonough, GA; sister, Rosella Patterson, of Middletown, OH; brother, Benny Patterson, of Blairsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Nora Patterson, of Blairsville; and Richard and Diane Patterson, of Blairsville; twenty-one grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Patterson were held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Cotton Harris and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Andrew Edward, David Nix, Shane Patterson, James Smith, Randall Alexander, and Gene Harkins.  Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard. Visitation at the funeral home was held on Monday evening, July 25th, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Mrs. Doris M. Toner, age 89, of Blairsville and Blue Ridge, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away on Tuesday July 26, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Toner was born on Dec. 23, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Harold Miller and the late Ellen Gallagher Miller.  Doris was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved animals and playing cards.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Patrick Toner in 1983 and by a sister, Marilyn Malley.  Mrs. Toner was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mrs. Toner are four sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Karen Toner of Naperville, IL, Robert and Frances Toner of Morganton, GA, Michael and Diane Toner of Blairsville, Stephen and Ritsuko Toner of Pasadena, CA, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marcia and Hans Due of Vero Beach, FL, Rosemary and Dominick Lettiere of Vero Beach, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Miller, Thomas and Virginia Miller all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Harley and Susan Miller of Pompano Beach, FL, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment to follow in The Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Alzheimerís Foundation in memory of Mrs. Toner.

dorothy fugate crum

 

Mrs. Dorothy Fugate Crum, age 74, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 in Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.  Mrs. Crum was born in Haines City, FL, on Thursday, December 3, 1936, a daughter of the late Wilson C. Fugate and the late Louis Martha Alderman Fugate.  She had been a teacher at Lakeland Christian School in Florida.

Mrs. Crum will be missed, especially by her loving family: her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Crum; son, Richard Crum, of Lakeland, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Ricky Rich, of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren: Miranda Brooks, Lauren Brooks, of Gainesville, and Ahna Crum of Lakeland.

Funeral services for Mrs. Crum were held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Antioch Baptist Church, with Pastor George Cline officiating.  Special music was presented by Danita Kennedy, David Floyd, and Patsy Phillips.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jim Ackles, Josh Kennedy, Clarence Phillips, George Danner, Terry Kintz, Derek Stepp, Clay Fox, and Jonathan Lodge.  Burial was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation at the funeral home was held after 6 p.m., on Tuesday, with the family especially meeting with friends between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.

Mr. David McEwen, age 69, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Blairsville.

Mr. McEwen was born in Miami, FL, on Saturday, January 3, 1942, a son of the late Jerome McEwen and the late Marie Maggio.  David was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He was a businessman, and owned and managed a Bowling and Golf Pro Shop at Victoria Station in Blairsville.  He had been a bowling enthusiast for 57 years.  To his family he was a good husband and father, and to all a kind generous man, always willing to help others.

He is missed and is lovingly remembered by his family: wife, Brenda, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly McEwen Jacquin and Herb Jacquin, of Eustis, FL; and daughter, Katey Rae McEwen, of Blairsville.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating with eulogy by Mr. DJay DeJoseph Special music was presented by Mrs Mindy Combs Allen.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Herb Jacquin, DJay DeJoseph, Ron Connor, David Zachry, Jon Connor, and Chad Schlarb.  Graveside services were held Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, with Military Chaplain officiating the service, and Military Honors conferred at the graveside by the Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation was held at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and lasted until time for the funeral to begin.

Mrs. Wilma Faye Roper, age 50, of Jones St., Blairsville, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, in North East Georgia Medical Center, in Gainesville, GA following an extended illness.  Wilma was born in Towns County, and had lived in Towns and Union Counties all her life.  She was a daughter of the late Willie and Ruby (Owenby) Burrell.  Wilma loved spending time with her family, traveling and taking care of her children.  She was member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Hiawassee.

            Wilma is survived by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Tim Roper of Blairsville, GA, two daughters that she adored, Erin and Emily Roper of Blairsville, GA, one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Herbert McCray of Hiawassee, GA; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Deb Burrell of Hiawassee, GA, Wayne and Tina Burrell of Clermont, GA and Jay and Kim Burrell of Hiawassee, GA, several nieces and nephews and cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services for Wilma were held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Harris and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Music was presented by Susie Murphy, Angie Kelley and Marion Durkee.  The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Justin Kennedy, Dustin Kennedy, Lee Beaver, Zach Albietz, John Garrett, Jaythan Burrell and Kellan Burrell.  Interment followed in Laurel Hills Cemetery in Hiawassee, GA.  The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mr. Burton H. Tischer, age 82, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Tischer was born in St. Louis, MO, on Wednesday, April 3, 1929, a son of the late Herbert Tischer and Mary Louise Black Tischer.  He was a member of The Christian Church in St. Louis, and belonged to the Oddfellows Lodge in St. Louis.  He was the owner of a printing shop, and was a member of The Graphic Arts Association, and The Craftsman Club.  Mr. Tischer had moved to this area from Maitland, FL, in 2006.

Mr. Tischer will be missed and is lovingly remembered by his family members: his wife, Violet, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Louise and Joe Steffens, of Eustis, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Burton Hal, Jr., and Peggy Tischer, of New Port Richey, FL; and son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Yvonne Tischer, of Orlando, FL. Seven grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services were held on Friday, July 29, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Totherow officiating.  Visitation at the funeral home was held on Thursday evening, from 6 until 8 p.m.
