Mr. James
A. Brackett, Jr., age 66, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
July 27,
1997 in Rabun County, Georgia, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle
accident.
Mr.
Brackett was born in Union County, Georgia, on December
3, 1930, a son of the late James Augustus Brackett, Sr. and Lennie
Hatchett
Brackett. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of
the Korean War. Mr. Brackett was a
lifelong resident of this area and was the owner of Brackett’s Auto and
Parts
Company. He was a member of First United
Methodist church (sic) and also a member of the Board of Directors of
Union
County Bank. Mr. Brackett was preceded
in death by a son, James Cecil Brackett, in 1972.
Surviving
are his wife, Dobie Brackett, of the home; daughters, Danita Stephens,
Dinah
Carter, Dana Brackett, and Dale Dyer, all of Blairsville; brother, Max
Brackett
of Blairsville; and sister, Voe Henderson of Marietta; eight
grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, July 29, 1997 at 2 p.m. from First United
Methodist
Church of Union County with Rev. Robert Passmore officiating. The Eulogy was presented by Jimmy Tallent and
Tom Gilliland. Mrs. Elizabeth Plott
presented the music. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jamie Tallent, Mark Dockery, Roy
Lynch, Earl
Sullivan, Eddie Partin, and Ivan Phillips.
Serving as honorary escort to the family was directors and
officers of
Union County Bank and friends. Interment
was in Providence
Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by The North Georgia
Honor
Guard.

Mrs.
Roena
Turner, 89, of Blairsville, Georgia, passes (sic) away Friday, July 25,
1997 in
Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Turner was born August 12, 1907 in Crawford County, Missouri
a daughter of the late Gilbert Monroe Andrews and Luticia Ann Turner
Andrews. Mrs. Turner had been a part
time resident of Blairsville for many years.
Her other resident was in Stuart, Florida, where she was a
member of the
Stuart First Methodist Church. When in
Blairsville, Mrs. Turner attended Coosa Methodist Church.
Survivors
include a daughter, Delores Michael, of
Blairsville and two sons, James E. Turner of Lake Park, Georgia, and
Douglas
Turner of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Six
grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, July 27, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of
Cochran Funeral
Home of Blairsville with Rev. Orville Nelson officiating.
Graveside services were held in All Saints
Cemetery in Start on Wednesday, July 30, 1997 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of
flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to

Coosa Methodist Church construction fund, or to Union County Nursing
Home.

Mrs. Nora
Griggs Elliott, age 90, of Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee,
passed
away Monday, July 28, 1997.
Mrs.
Elliott was born May 4, 1907 in Union County, Georgia, a
daughter of the late Elbert Griggs and Ruthie Stewart Griggs. She was a homemaker and a member of Zebulon
Baptist Church.
Surviving
are her husband of 74 years, George Elliott; daughter, Margie King of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Edwin Lovell; son and
daughter-in-law, Frank and Essie Elliott; and daughter and son-in-law,
Opal and
Frank Lovell, all of Gainesville; son, Floyd Elliott of Blairsville;
sisters-in-law, Nell Griggs and Georgia Griggs, both of Blairsville; 24
grandchildren 36 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 30, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Horace Potts and Rev. Jerry Young
officiating. Special music was presented
by the Zebulon
Baptist Singers. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Kenneth Lovell,
Jerry Lovell, Bruce Whitmore, Donald Lovell, Mike Lovell, Vaughn King,
and
Trenmiss Elliott. The following
gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family, Hoyt Lovell and
Harold King. Interment was in Union Memory
Gardens

Mr.
Monroe
Bohannon, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 28,
1997 in
Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr.
Bohannon was born in Tarrant County, Texas, on March 5,
1914, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Moultrie Bohannon.
He had lived in this area since 1937, coming
here from Rome, GA. His wife, Mrs.
Fannie Lee Bridges Bohannon passed away in 1984. Mr.
Bohannon was a member of Harmony Grove
Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter Linda
Ammerman of Murphy, N.C.; son and
daughter-in-law, Silas and Ruth Bohannon of Blairsville; four
grandchildren,
Timothy Canada of Denver, Colorado, Leann Mobbs of Rome, GA., Tim and
Anthony
Bohannon of Blairsville; and eight great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, July 30, 1997 at 4 p.m. from Cochran
Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Willis Garrett and Rev. Ronnie Dilbeck officiating. Special music was presented by Mrs. Martha

Mr.
Ronald J. Earl, age 64, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, August
3,
1997. Mr. Earl was born December 9, 1921
in Nyack, NY. A U.S.
Air Force veterans (sic) and graduate of the University of Florida. Mr. Earl was a Landscape Architect in Palm
Beach, Florida for 30 years before moving to Blairsville to establish
Restoration Road. He was known in North
Georgia for his colored pencil artwork depicting local landmarks.
He is
survived by his wife, Joann earl; daughters, Donna,
Sharon, and Joanna Earl and Brenda Hemby and son Jordan Earl;
grandchildren,
Rebekah, Sarah, and Jonathan Hemby, all of Blairsville, GA. He is also survived by his mother, Helen
Armstrong of Blairsville, GA.
A private
family memorial service was held Tuesday, August
5, 1997, If you
