Mr.
Edward
Nicholson, 67, of Blairsville, GA passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1996.
Mr.
Nicholson was born in Towns County, GA, on February 12,
1929, a son of the late William Pendra
Nicholson and
Della Margaret Nichols Nicholson. Mr.
Nicholson moved to Union County fro Towns County in 1973.
He was of the Methodist Faith.
Surviving
are his wife, Catherine Elizabeth Rogers Nicholson, of the home; two
children,
Jeanie Lance of Washington, GA and Dale Nicholson of Young Harris, GA;
step
son, Robert turner, of Blairsville; four sisters, Bonnie Kimsey and
Charlotte
Linehan, both of Hiawassee, GA; Eula Stephens, of Cramerton, NC and
Irene Eller
of Hayesville, NC; five grandchildren, Renea Lance and Sasha Lance, of
Washington, GA; Matthew Youngblood, of Young Harris; and Pamela Turner
and Curtis
Turner, both of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews and a host of
friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, August 1, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Passmore and Rev. Charles Black
officiating.
Special
music was presented by the Low Gap Quartet. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Roger Cobb, Joey Colwell, Jay Groves, James Nicholson,
Doug
Nicholson, and Johnny Evans. Interment was
in Blairsville City Cemetery.
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of
arrangements.

Mrs.
Rachel
T. Davenport, 86, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, July 27,
1996 at
her daughter’s house in Roswell, GA, following an extended illness.
Mrs.
Davenport was born in Gilmer County, GA, on October 22,
1909, a daughter of the late Joseph Calvin Tatum and Mary Cloninger
Tatum. She graduated from Ellijay High
School in
1929, and went on to earn an associate degree from North George College
and was
a school teacher for a number of years.
She was the widow of the late Jewell Davenport, who passed away
in 1981.
Surviving
are four daughters: Maudane Webb, of Roswell; Joyce Bryans, of Madison,
GA;
Carol Calotta of New York, NY; and Anne Davenport of Marietta, GA,
three sons:
Maurice Davenport of Decatur; Lanier Davenport, of Perkins, GA; and
Kent
Davenport of Ballground, GA; fifteen grandchildren, and nine great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, July 30, 1996 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Zion
Baptist
Church with Rev. Harold Underwood officiating.
Special music was presented by Mt. Zion Church Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Albert Davenport, Marcus Sosebee, Keith Foster, Ford
Burns, Glen
Davenport, and Steve Kimsey. Interment was
in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. If
you wish, the family suggests in lieu of flowers, that memorials be
made to Mt.
Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Marcus Sosebee, 499 Haralson
Dr.,
Blairsville, GA 30512.

Shirley
Jean Stiles Eller, 58, of Blairsville, GA, died Saturday, August 3,
1996, in a
Blairsville, GA hospital.
She was a
native of Cherokee Co., NC and worked in food services in the Union
county
Georgia School system. She was the
daughter of the late Boyd Hoyt and Della Mae Hedrick Stiles. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers,
Leonard and Marshall Stiles, and 2 sisters, Edna Hughes and Leona
Martin. She was a member of the Antioch
Baptist
Church.
She is
survived by her husband, Truett Harold Eller, 2 sons, Keith Edwin Eller
of
Austell, GA, and Douglas Todd Eller of Powder Springs, GA, 1 daughter,
Scharme
Elaine Eller of Asheville, NC, 2 brothers, Maynard Stiles of
Jacksonville, FL,
and Roy stiles of Loudon, TN, 1 sister, Carmen Townson of Murphy, NC,
and 1
granddaughter, Shelby Sloan Eller; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Monday, August 5, 1996 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of
the
Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.
The Rev. Bill Gowder, Rev. Ken Phipps, and Rev. Harmon G. Tanner
officiated. Burial was in the Old
Martins Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers
were: Larry Hughes, Eddie Martin, Harry Martin, Randy Stiles, Harold
Beavers
and Ralph Hughes.

Gordon
Dwayne Meadows, age 74, of Murphy, NC, died Friday, August 2, 1996 in a
local
hospital.
Mr.
Meadows was a native of Union County, GA. He
was owner and operator of Murphy Radio
& TV and had also worked for Coleman’s and Ingram’s Appliance in
Murphy,
NC. He was a U. W. World War II Veteran
and a member of Dooley Masonic Lodge #367 of Blaisville (sic), GA. He was a member of Bethany Baptist
Church. Mr. Meadows was the son of the
late John Gordon and Alcie Elizabeth Davenport Meadows.
He is
survived by his wife, Geraldine Thomas Meadows; one sister-in-law, Jane
Stovall
of Murphy, NC; four nieces and five nephews.
Funeral
services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 1996 at the Townson
Rose
Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. The
Rev.
Warren Golden will officiate. Burial
will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with military
graveside rites
conducted by V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post
#96, and
D.A.V. Chapter #73. Pallbearers will be
Eric Arp, Jack Roberson, Ralph Carder, Lewis Leitner, Frank Sommers and
Alvin
Clark.
