mr. charles kenneth shuck

 

Mr. Charles Kenneth Shuck, age 57, of Madison Ave., Blairsville, formerly of Rollinsville, NH, passed away on Thursday Aug. 4, 2005 in the Greenville Medical Center following injuries sustained in an accident.  Mr. Shuck was born on Oct 8, 1947 in St. Pete, FL, the son of Mildred Huff Shuck and the late Kenneth Shuck.  At the time of his death he was employed by CSM Heating and Air.  He was a member of the Butternut Creek Golf Club in Blairsville.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Shuck in 1968.  Mr. Shuck was a member of the Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Shuck are his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Pauline Drury Shuck of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-laws, Colleen and Michael Boisvert of Pembroke, NH, Wendy and Peter Bernard of Smyrna, DE, three brothers and one sister-in-law, George Shuck of Colorado, Ronald and Sally Shuck of Blairsville, Robert Shuck of Altonna, FL, four grandchildren, Michael Jr., Tyler, Samantha and Alexander, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday Aug. 9, 2005 at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Katie Strals officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Mountain Shelter of Union County in Mr. Shuck’s memory.

mrs. cleo fortenberry hobgood

 

Mrs. Cleo Fortenberry Hobgood, age 77, of 5409 Adairsville Road, Adairsville, GA, died Thursday evening, August 4, 2005 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Hobgood was born in Suches, GA, on April 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth Stover Holloway.  Prior to retirement, she had been a nurse for over 18 years, working at several area nursing homes.  Mrs. Hobgood was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church.  She enjoyed cooking, especially baked goods, talking on the telephone with friends and relatives and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.  Mrs. Hobgood was a “caring, giving person” who “always accepted people for who they were.”  She loved her grandchildren and was a woman who always made everyone feel loved.

Mrs. Hobgood is survived by her husband, Winford “George” Hobgood; four sons and daughters-in-law, J.Q. and Janice Fortenberry of Blairsville, GA, Mitchell and Betty Jo Fortenberry of Adairsville, Jimmy and Ann Fortenberry of Rome, GA, and Randy and Sharon Fortenberry of Blairsville; three step-sons, Jack Hobgood and his wife, Gail, of Shannon, GA, Dexter Hobgood of Plainville, GA, and Rex Hobgood and his wife Alicia, of Rome; one step-daughter, Marie West of Adairsville; one sister, Normie Shook of Cummings, GA.  Eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hobgood were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Jackson officiating.  Interment followed in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers include Chris Fortenberry, Dale Fortenberry, Keith Murphy, Matthew Fortenberry, Chris Harrell, Joshua Fortenberry, Seth Fortenberry and Larry King.

mr. william michael lee

 

Mr. William Michael Lee age 64 of Holly Cove Circle Blairsville, formerly of Spring Hill, FL, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Lee was born on October 4, 1940 in Statin Island, NY, the son of the Christopher Lee.  He retired in 1991 as a Police Officer with the Suffolk County Police Department as a First Grade Detective with over thirty three years of service.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Mr. Lee was of the Christian Faith.

Surviving Mr. Lee are his loving wife of thirty nice years, Joan Dzikowski Lee of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Mary Beth and William Mosko of Cornelius, NC.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Sunday August 7, 2005 at 7 p.m. from the Arrowhead Valley Resort.  Visitation was held following the services.

mrs. betty jean garner

 

Mrs. Betty Jean Garner age 72 of wolf Pen Gap Rd., Suches passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Garner was born on May 28, 1933 in Macon, GA, the daughter of the late Frank Jones Garner and the late Viela Wade Garner.  She had retired from teaching.  She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Frances Becham, Caroline Pender, Sarah Veal, Gladys Ward and Frank Becham.  Mrs. Garner was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Garner are her loving husband of fifty two years, Robert Garner of Suches.  Three children, Sharon Garner, Sandra (Marcial) Jimenez and Robbie Garner.  One sister, Louise Griffin, one brother, Paul Becham, Four grandchildren, Luci, Simon, Alilia and Bobby Pereira.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches with the Rev. Clarence Drummond officiating.  The body will lie in state from 10-11 at the church.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Paul Becham, Simon Pereira, Robert Pereira, Larry Garner, Rusty Ward and Morris Gibson.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Garner’s memory.  The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m.

mr. eugene fletcher plott

 

Mr. Eugene Fletcher Plott, age 83, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2005 after an extended illness.

Mr. Plott was born Monday, August 22, 1921 in Towns County, GA to the late Oliver L. Plott and Mable Penland Plott.  He was a member of West Union Baptist Church, a life long cattle farmer and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran having served in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign.  He was predeceased by sons, Edward C. Plott and Gerald W. Plott and brother, Aurey F. Plott and Emmitt E. Plott.

Survivors include: wife, Mildred McClure Plott; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy P. and David Conley of Blairsville, GA; sister, Ruby L. Hilderbrand of Macon, GA; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 7 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy Lee officiating.  Eulogy by Andrew Conley.  Music was provided by Jon Conley. 

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2005 in Union Memory Gardens with Rev. Jim Crews officiating.  Military honors were conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.  Serving as pallbearers were Jon Conley, Andrew Conley, Jeremiah Plott, Kelly Cruse, Jeff Nicholson, W.H. McCarter.

mr. brian grant boyce

 

Mr. Brian Grant Boyce age 59 of Wild Ridge Road, Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday August 3, 2005 in the Union General Hospital, following a sudden illness.

Mr. Boyce was born on March 1, 1946 in Alburg, Vermont.  He was the son of the late Parnell and Ruth Searles Boyce.

At 17 he married the love of his life Sharon Mumley.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He lived life to its fullest, spending many vacations at his beloved cabin in Georgia, with his family and friends.  Along with a strong worth ethic he took great pride in his family, his work, his country and his team the Florida State Seminoles.

He began his business life as co-owner of the family dairy farm for 17 years in Vermont.  He then moved his family to Florida where he started Corner Produce, a wholesale and retail market.  Currently he was a builder and developer in Union County Georgia.

Preceded in death by a sister Debbie Dale Boyce and daughter Suzanne Boyce.

Surviving Mr. Boyce are his loving wife of 41 years Sharon Mumley Boyce, Five children Robin Taylor of Grand Isle, Vermont, Randy Boyce of Cape Coral, Florida, Jennifer and Greg DeWitt of Bonita Springs, Florida, Jill and Terry Bonnell of Bonita Springs, Florida, Krista and Mark Viars of San Carlos, Florida.  Brothers and Sisters by marriage, Bob and Bev, Bill and Lois, Jim and Colleen and Dick.  Four Grandchildren Jesse, Taylor, Haley, Camryn and soon to be Delaney.  Many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends to numerous to mention.

The service was held in Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Joanne’s House Hospice, Bonita Springs, Florida.

mrs. margaret anne faulk king

 

Mrs. Margaret Anne Faulk King was born in Foley, Alabama on April 21, 1936.  She graduated from Foley High School and received a BA degree in English from Samford University (then Howard College) in 1957.  She taught and was guidance counselor at Murphy High School in Atlanta from 1957-1965.  She received a Masters of Education from Mercer University and taught for many years at Five Forks Middle School in Gwinnett County.

Margaret had three children – Carol King Lewis (husband William Curtis Lewis), Melissa King Rogers (husband Brandon Rogers), Eric Michael King (wife Cheryl Stites King), and four grandchildren – Zachary and Alexander King, Tyler Lewis and Jessica Lewis.  Two brothers, Warren Faulk and wife Barbara, Michael Faulk and wife Sharon.  She enjoyed music and was a member of the Decatur Civic Chorus for many years.  She sang in choirs at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Avondale Estates Baptist Church, Smoke Rise Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville, Georgia.  She enjoyed attending the Barbershop Harmony Society Convention to hear her son’s quarter perform.  Long after her retirement, Margaret volunteered in the primary school in Blairsville to help children read.  She was blessed with many friends and family members who “have made my life full and meaningful.”

Battling cancer for nearly twenty-five years, Margaret devoted much of her life to encouraging hundreds of others and truly reflected Jesus to all who met her.  She defied the odds with superhuman grace, and reminded us that dignity comes with within.  She remains our hero.

There was a funeral service at the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville, GA at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2005, 859 Highway 515, Blairsville, GA 30512.  Rev. Eddie Herring and Dr. Trutt Gannon officiating. 

A memorial service will be held at Smoke Rise Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2005.  Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain.

Mrs. Julia Stephens Watkins passes at age 108

 

MRS. JULA STEPHENS WATKINS

 

Mrs. Julia Stephens Watkins, age 108, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Watkins was born Monday, April 12, 1897 in Union County, GA to the late Tom Stephens and Sarah Higdon Stephens.  She was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Virgil Watkins, son Tommy Watkins, grandsons, Eugene Conley and Mike Rich.

Survivors include: daughter, Mable Watkins Rich of Blairsville, GA; son, Raymond Watkins of Blairsville, GA; daughter, Pauline Watkins Conley of Blairsville, GA; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Jenkins and Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Music was provided by Jessie and Lena Hill.  Interment was in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers are: Deacons of Zebulon Baptist Church.
