george eberhard herzog

 

Mr. George Eberhard Herzog, age 78, of Wilmar Circle Blairsville, passed away on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 in the Erlanger Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mr. Herzog was born on April 3, 1933 in Bamberg, Germany, the son of the late Maxi Herzog and the late Gunda Czicalla Herzog.  George trained in Germany as a Master Chef and furthered his education in Switzerland before attending the Culinary Institute in New Haven, CT where he continued his membership until his death.  He was preceded in death by his son, Dieter Herzog in 1998.  George was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was a very generous man who loved everyone and enjoyed his life and retirement in the North GA Mountains.  He was a member of the Chatuge Gun Club and the American Culinary Federation.  Mr. Herzog was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Herzog are his loving wife of forty-eight years, Gerda Hofmann Herzog of Blairsville, daughter, Cordelia Herzog of Long Island, NY, son, Thomas Herzog of Pensacola, FL, daughter and son-in-law, Natasha and Walter Zublionis of Port Jefferson, sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxi and Kurt Haenle of Germany, Gertrude and Fred Tuccillo of Trenton, NJ, Mellitta Coon of Ronconcos Woods, NJ, brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudolf and Inge Herzog of Germany, Dieter and Gunda Herzog of Germany and Guether Herzog of Germany, sister-in-law, Maria and Philip Gamache of Blairsville, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Mountain View Chapel with Father Liam officiating.  The following gentleman will serve (sic) as pallbearers, Philip Gamache, Tom Herzog, Walter Zublionis, Frank Meyer, James Meyer, Robert Meyer and Jerre Brisky.  Internment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

            Edwin “Eddie” Benedik of Suches, GA, age 58, passed away on June 26, 2011.  He worked for LM Builders in Blairsville for 5 years.

Mr. Benedik is survived by Jean Arthur, partner and sisters Edda Monzo and Ria Benedik.

dale alexander allison

 

Mr. Dale Alexander Allison, 90, of Stable Gate Drive, Blairsville, formerly of East Alton, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Union General Hospital following after a brief illness.  Mr. Allison was born on July 5, 1921 in Chester, Illinois the son of the late John L. Allison and Lizzie Smith Allison.  He was a veteran of the Merchant Marine and US Navy in World War II.  Dale was a small business owner and operator for 45 years prior to his move to Blairsville.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was preceded in death by a brother Reuel Allison and sisters, Mildred Hawthorne and Vivian Louvier.  He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Minnie Jeremiah Allison, sons and daughters-in-law, Dale A. Jr and Carol Allison of Blairsville, and John and Candi Allison of St. Simons, GA, granddaughter and husband, Christa and State Representative  Buzz Brockway, Lawrenceville, GA, grandson and wife, State Representative Stephen and Regina Allison, Blairsville, grandson, Jake Allison, Ackworth, GA, granddaughter, Jodi Allison, St. Simons, GA, granddaughter and husband, Jenny and Mike Levais, Watertown, NY and 8 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association in memory of Mr. Allison.

ruby irene collins

 

Mrs. Ruby Irene Collins, age 83, of Blairsville, formerly of Clearwater, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Stonehenge following an extended illness. Mrs. Collins was born on June 17, 1928 in Greystone, NC, the daughter of the late Leroy Davis and the late Grace Bunn Davis.  She retired from the City of Dunedin, FL after over fifteen years of service.  She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great- grandmother.  Mrs. Collins was a member of New Beginnings Community Church, formerly Sunset Point Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL.

            Surviving Mrs. Collins are one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Mick Goebel of Murphy, one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Evelyn Collins Jr. of Orlando, FL, three sisters, Hazel Johnson of Portsmouth, VA., Inez Beilein and Margie Holmes both of Clearwater, FL, one sister-in-law, Arlene Davis of Virginia Beach, VA, one grandson, Eric and Christy of Palm Harbor, FL, two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Tyler Collins, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in Clearwater, FL.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in memory of Mrs. Collins.

gaylee mall gulley

 

Mrs. Gaylee Mall Gulley, age 62, of Fern Gulley Rd., Blairsville formerly of Jupiter, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Gulley was born on Feb. 16, 1949 in St. Petersburg, FL, the daughter of Phyllis Brunet Mall and the late Willis Mall.  Gaylee had owned and operated the Kids Zone in Blairsville.  She loved golf, working and her many friends.  She was a very loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.  Gaylee was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Gaylee are her loving husband of thirty years, Richard E. Gulley of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, April and Mike Suder of St. White, FL, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Jamila Gulley Jr. of Hopewell, VA, Paul Cline and his partner Chris Long of Long Hurst, NY, Kevin and Jennifer Gulley of Jupiter, FL, one brother and sister-in-law, Darryl and Darlene Mall of Concord, NC, eight grandchildren, Brittany, Katelyn, Casey, Melissa, D.J., Jonny, Deschain and Brileigh, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 7 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with Minister Terry Stuart officiating.  Flowers were accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Advantage Hospice of Ellijay in memory of Mrs. Gulley.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m.

edward lewis turner

 

Mr. Edward Lewis Turner, age 83, of Blairsville, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Turner was born in Pomfret, VT, on April 6, 1928, a son of the late Edward Lewis Turner and the late Laverne Mock Turner.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served his country during World War II.  He and his wife had been previous residents of Orlando, Florida, and he had retired from commercial tire sales.  Edward Turner was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and never missed an opportunity to witness for the Lord.  An enthusiastic ambassador for Christ, he had served for 20 years in prison ministry.  Besides his parents, Ed had been preceded in death by a sister, Belva Ventura.

Ed will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his loving family: his wife of 60 years, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. Turner, Jr., and his wife Vicki, of Richardson, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey Turner Nickolson and her husband Ron, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Scot C. Turner and his wife, Janine, of Tacoma, WA; sister, Mildred Kathan, of North Syracuse, NY; six grandchildren: Ashley Turner, Lindsay Irvin, Jennifer Turner, Jamie Nickolson, Amy Turner, and Brandon Turner.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services for Ed were held on Monday, August 8, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating.  Special music was presented by Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper, Jackie Hill, and Eric Purser. Interment was in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011, with military honors conferred by U.S. Army.
