edwin harris griffin

 

Mr. Edwin Harris Griffin, age 68, of Holly Hill Way, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday in the Union General Hospital following a sudden illness.  Mr. Griffin was born on January 1, 1936 in Homer, GA, the son of Ella Ruth Gooch Griffin and the late Thomas Mayse Griffin.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of Allegheny Lodge #114, a member of the Appalachian Shrine.  He was the former Broker/Owner of Griffin Realty for over thirty years.  He was preceeded in death by two grandchildren, Clay Alan King and Connor Scott Griffin.  Mr. Griffin was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Griffin are his loving wife of forty-nine years, Barbara Jean Tison Griffin of Blairsville, one daughter, Rhonda Griffin Dyer of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Kim Griffin of Lawrenceville, Daniel and Amie Griffin of Lawrenceville; mother, Ella Ruth Griffin of Blairsville, one sister, Sandra Ruth Jenkins of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Dyer, Ryan, Megan and Cassidy Marie Griffin, one great-grandchild, Natasha Chantel King.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Parris and Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.  Special music was presented by Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Bobby Jackson, Herbert Dyer, Jim Baggett, Joe Stophel, Glenn Gooch, Hobart Lunsford, Ned White and Bill Atkinson.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery with Allegheny Lodge conducting Masonic Rites.

Grace lee garrett

 

Mrs. Grace Lee Garrett, age 90, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, August 6, 2004, at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Garrett was born May 5, 1914 in Union County, GA.  She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Della Gillespie Addington and wife of Jim Garrett, who passed away in 1993.  She was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.  She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, 1 sister and 3 grandchildren.

Survivors include: sons, Harold Garrett and wife, Delane of McDonough, GA, Denver Garrett of Blairsville, Dennis “Hambone” Garrett and wife, Barbara of Blairsville and Roger Garrett of Blairsville; daughter, Doris Corkern McGaha and husband Keith of Blairsville; sisters, Rowena Akins of Blairsville and Mary Martin of Knoxville, TN; brother, John Addington of Marietta, GA; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Coosa United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Herrin officiating.  Music was provided by Evan Hughes and Merle Fortenberry.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers were Rufus Everett, Doug Hughes, R.B. Brown, Mike Akins, Michael Sam Akins and Anthony Garrett.

johnny freeman thompson

 

Mr. Johnny Freeman Thompson, age 57, of Voylestown Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Thompson was born on September 9, 1946 in Buffalo, TN, the son of the late Tamer Thompson and the late Jean Ford Thompson.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Smith and a brother, Bobby Thompson.  Mr. Thompson attended The Blairsville Church of Christ.

Surviving Mr. Thompson are his loving wife of thirty six years, Iris Juanita Ash Thompson of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Karen Thompson of Blairsville, Curtis and April Thompson of Blairsville, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Roberta and Paul Steward of Baxter, TN., Peggy Loftis of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Tamar and Rosie Thompson of Blairsville, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with minister, Terry Stuart and Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating.  Special music was presented by Mary Ann Measner.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Thompson’s memory.
