Mr.
Randall John
Allen, age 59, of Elisha Payne Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Thursday August
5, 2010 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness. Mr. Allen was born on July 4, 1951 in Towns
County, the son of the late John (Hosey) Allen and the late Irene Payne
Allen. He was a veteran of the US Army and
a member
of Allegheny Lodge #114 F&AM. Over
the years Randall was an ambulance driver and a truck driver. Most recent before retiring he was a Deputy
Sheriff and Marshall with the Union County Sheriff’s Department for
over
fifteen years. Randall was a loving
father, brother and grandfather. He was
preceded in death by his parents, John (Hosey) and Irene Allen and a
sister,
Bonnie Allen. Mr. Allen was a member of
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Allen
are three daughters and two son-in-laws, Tracy and Tommy Holbrooks of
Blairsville, Wendy and Steve Burrell of Blairsville, Sarah Allen of
Blairsville, two brothers and sister-in-laws, Richard and Susie Allen
of
Canton, GA, James and Anita Allen of Mineral Bluff, GA, three sisters
and two
brother-in-laws, Minnie and David Chapman of Ellijay, Wanda and Bob
Grant of
Woodstock and Donna Panter of Woodstock, five grandchildren, Kayla
Nelder, Josh
and Hannah Holbrooks, Donovan and Ethan Green, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Sunday August 8, 2010 at 3 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with the
Rev. Danny White and Rev. Earl Pickelsimer officiating. Special music
was
presented by Sean Byers, Herman and Lavada Cheek. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers,
Arnold Patterson, Lynn Holbrooks, Don Winn, Doug Byers, Gary Chapman
and Denny
Dills. Serving as honorary pallbearers
were, Wendall Payne, Royce Killian, Michael Turner, James Grady Allen,
Chris
Chapman and Joshua Panter. Interment
followed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the North
GA. Honor
Guard conducting military honors. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening.

Sarah
Turpin Standridge,
age 89, of Blairsville, GA, passed away at Tuesday, August 3, 2010, in
Union
County Nursing Home in Blairsville. Sarah
was born in Stephens County, GA, on May
8, 1921, a daughter of the late William Wesley Turpin and the late
Ollie Gibby
Turpin. She lived most of her life in
Toccoa, and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church there. She moved to Blairsville in 2004, and loved
arts and crafts, and flower gardening.
Surviving
family members
include daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Homer Payne, of
Blairsville; son,
J.W. Standridge, of Toccoa; daughter, Hazel Standridge Martin, of
Wahala, SC;
daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Lee Thomas of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law, Douglas and Denise Standridge, of Toccoa; sister, Ruth
Standridge, of Toccoa; sister, Alice Rice of Hartwell, SC; and sister
and
brother-in-law, Lula and Harold Ricketts, of Belton, SC; eleven
grandchildren,
eighteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other
relatives
also survive.
Funeral
services were held
Friday, August 6, 2010, at 3 p.m., at Ebenezer Baptist Church in
Toccoa, with
Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Special
music was presented by Jackie Hill, Homer Payne, Crissy Springer,
Sierra
Harrison, and Josh Payne. Grandsons
served as pallbearers: Shawn Martin, Terry Payne, Tim Payne, Todd
Springer,
Tyler Standridge, and Cody Creel. Great
Grandsons served as honorary escort to the family. Visitation
with the family was held at Cochran
Funeral Home in Blairsville on Thursday evening, August 5, 2010, from 6
until 8
p.m. Visitation was also held at
Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa on Friday, August 6, 2010, beginning
at 1:00
p.m., before the service began at 3:00 p.m. Burial
was in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery
in Toccoa, GA.

Mrs.
Betty Asdell Shank, age 63, of Kimbrell Lane, Blairsville formerly of
Port
Charlotte, FL, Falling Waters WV and
also of Hancock, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 28, 2010
at her
home following an extended illness. Mrs.
Shank was born on June 12,1947 in Annapolis, MD, the daughter of the
late Guy
Taylor and the late Florence Peeling Taylor. She
had been employed with Verizon Telephone
Company for over twenty-eight years. Betty
had been volunteering for several organizations for over thirty years. The most recent was for the Union County
Auxiliary (she was president for two years), the SAFE House, the Union
County
Animal Thrift Store and the Blairsville Cancer Center. Betty
was a member of the Fellowship of the
Hills Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Shank are her loving husband, Ronald Shank of Blairsville, two
daughters
and sons-in-law, Mary and Gordon Crouch of Woodstock, GA, Annette and
Garth
Munroe of Arnold, MD, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Donald and
Corrine
Peeling of Leonardtown, MD, Kenneth Taylor of Baltimore, MD, five
grandchildren, Ryan and Brandon Crouch, Danielle and Jenna Bellante and
Trinity
Munroe, many other family and friends also survive.
A
memorial service will be held Sunday Aug. 15, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the
Fellowship of the Hills Church with the Rev. Martin Duncan. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family

Mr. Edward James Ronde’ age 59, of Blairsville, passed away on Saturday July 31, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Ronde’ was born on April 9, 1951 in Hollywood, FL., the son of the late James Ronde’ and the late Roberta Buelah Beale Ronde’. Edward was a member of the Temple Terrace Masonic Lodge #330, the O. E. S. #288, a Shriner of the Egypt Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise D. Ronde’ in 1986. Mr. Ronde’ was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving
Mr. Ronde’
are his loving wife of thirty-two years, Rose A. Thomas Ronde’ of
Blairsville,
a niece, BJ. Ohliger of Foley, AL, his favorite pet, Bubba, many other
relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service
will be held at a later date. In lieu of
flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union
County
Humane Society in memory of Mr. Ronde’.

Carolyn
Gatlin, age 69 of Blairsville, GA
passed away August 1, 2010.
She is survived by her husband of 48
years, Philip Gatlin; daughters, Deborah Pissott, Lynda Langhoff, Lori
Lee
Gatlin, Sarah Anderson; step daughters, Debra Portock, Donna Whitten;
brothers,
Roger Mullaly, Randy Mullaly; 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren,
several
nieces and nephews.
Carolyn died from complications
associated with Alzheimer’s shortly after moving to Blairsville, GA
from
Loganville in October 2009. She was a
member of Snellville First Baptist Church for 24 years and was a member
of the
church choir and Friendship Sunday School Class. During
her lifetime she considered her most
important responsibilities were that of wife, mother and grandmother. She also found time to be a girl-scout
leader, nursing assistant, medical office manager and mission-trip
co-leader. Carolyn considered a trip to
Israel to be one of the most inspiring events in her life.
She was known by family and friends alike for
her bright smile and caring heart.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
August 4, at 11 a.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Rev. Steve
Foster
and Rev. Howard Ramsey officiating. Interment
was at GA National Cemetery. The family
received friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to

Eula Lee
Harkins Spence passed away July 28,
2010. Eula Lee was born in Blairsville,
GA, January 06, 1947, to Emory and Bonnie Chambers Harkins. After graduating Union County High School,
she went to Atlanta, GA, where she was employed by Souther Bell, which
later
became Bell South. She was promoted to
the Accounting Department as Manager and worked a total of 20 years
while
living in Roswell, GA.
After retiring, she and her husband
traveled seventeen years. She felt
blessed to have the opportunity to return to her family and roots in
the
mountains that she loved, although she was unable to enjoy it very long
before
she was taken ill.
Eula Lee was a member of the Order
of the Eastern Star and Choestoe Baptist Church in Blairsville.
Eula Lee was preceded in death by
her father and mother, Emory and Bonnie Harkins, brothers, James Rowe
and J.C.,
sister, Norma Jean Harkins Jones.
Although Eula Lee had no children of
her own, she had a host of nieces and nephews she mothered over the
years and
they all loved her dearly.
She is survived by husband, Robert
Spence, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Yvonne Harkins of
Atlanta, GA,
sister, Sybil Tyre of Blairsville, GA, sister-in-law, Margie Harkins of
Blairsville, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews
and
great-great nephews.
Our dear sister and aunt will truly
be missed.
