Mr.
Gerard R. McNulty, 68, of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Blairsville,
Georgia
passed away Friday, July 31, 1998. He is
survived by his loving wife, Aileen, daughters, Theresa and Kathy, son,
Patrick, and brother, Robert of St. Petersburg, Florida, and six grandchildren.
Mr. McNulty
passed away after a 10 year battle with ALS (Lou Gherig’s Disease). He is a graduate of St. Paul’s High Scool in
St. Petersburg, the University of Tampa and attended Stetson Law School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean
conflict during which time he performed as the lead singer for the
“Noveleers”
in the Special Services division of the United States Army. He moved to Miami in 1961 from St. Petersburg
where he continued his career as a television news producer and
director at
Channel 10. he
served as the production manager at Channel 10 for 17 years. After leaving Channel 10, he was employed by
the Miami-Dade Police Department in the Police Property Bureau.
Mr. McNulty
was a devout Roman Catholic of Irish descent. his
loving family struggled with him during his arduous battle with ALS. Despite the physical challenges caused by his
paralysis “Jerry” remained upbeat and determined to contribute to
society. He is eternally grateful to the
Miami-Dade
Police Department for making reasonable handicap accommodations that
allowed
him to continue working, and to family, friends, health care assistants
that
made his life more comfortable toward the end.
His family will always remember him as a devoted husband, loving
father
and doting “grandpa.”
Funeral
Mass and visitation were held in Florida, and graveside services were
held
Tuesday, August 6, 1998 from Laurel Hills Memorial Gardens in
Hiawassee, with
Father Tim Gadziola officiating. Military graveside honors were presented
by
the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Donations

Nettie
Deaver Brackett, age 93, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday,
August 3,
1998 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville. Ms.
Brackett was born on Thursday May 4,
1905, in Viola, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Adolphus Erwin Deaver
and Mary
Simpson Deaver. She moved with her
family from Arkansas to Union County when she was an infant. Ms. Bracket was a member of Antioch Baptist
Church.
Ms.
Brackett is survived by a sister, le Etta Warren, of Kennesaw, GA;
grandchildren: Patricia Godfrey, Ann Cohn, Kenneth L. Brackett, and
Mary Jane
Hancock, all of Florida; nieces: Katherine Puett, Shirley Warren, and
Shelbia
Bennett; nephews: Evon Deaver, Corky Deaver, Junior McGaha, and Neal
Warren.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, August 5, 1998 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Special music was presented by the Kelley
Trio. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Sammy Bennett, Kenneth Byess, Tim Thomas, Larry Deaver,
Ricky
McAfee, and Jack Owenby. Interment was
Providence Methodist Church cemetery, under the direction of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.
