Mrs.
Gladys Evelyn Morehouse, age 90, Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday,
August 4,
2008 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Morehouse was born Tuesday, September 25, 1917 in Logan County, OH, to the late John Mahlen Wirick and the late Minnie
Carlisle
Wirick. She had lived in Ohio until
moving to Miami in 1948 then moving to Blairsville in 2000. She was a member of First United Methodist
Church of Union County and The Order of the Eastern Star.
She had worked for Aeronautical
Communications Corporation of Miami for 30 years. She
was preceded in death by her husband,
Ermil Gordon Morehouse, two brothers and a sister.
Surviving
family members include: daughter and son-in-law, Arline and Gene
Hodgson of
Blairsville; grandson, Glenn E. Hodgson; granddaughters: Jeanette
Espinosa and
Nancy Hadd; and six great grandchildren.
No services
are being planned at this time.

Faustine
Alfreda Davis, age 85, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Orlando, FL,
passed away
Wednesday, August 5, 2008 at the Stonehenge Assisted Living in
Blairsville, GA.
She was a
native of Lewis County, KY. By starting
to offer live Maine lobster at the Lobster Pot in Orlando, FL, in the
1970’s
she was elected as the first female restauranteur of the year by the
Florida
Restaurant Association. Faustine worked
as an office manager for thirteen years with Johnny Jones Plumbing and
also a
hospital food service supervisor. She
was the daughter of the late William Ellis and Gladys Mabel Peed
Hackworth.
She is
survived by her son, Rodney Davis of Mineral Bluff, GA; her daughter,
Sindy
Phillips and her husband, Elroy of Altamonte Springs, FL; two sisters,
Pauline
Reel of Ocoee, FL, and Janet Brown of Kissimmee, FL; one granddaughter,
Michelle Hall of Deland, FL; one great-grandchild, Kaley Hall, of
Deland, FL,
and one great-great-grandson, Roman Ha..
A
Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Woodlawn

Mr.
Hadley
Eugene McClure, age 71, of Murphy Hwy., Blairsville, passed away on
Monday,
Aug. 4, 2008 at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. McClure was born on Sept. 7, 1936 in
Cherokee County, NC, the son of the late Thomas McClure and the late
Amy
Lovingood McClure. He was a lifelong
resident of Union County and was well known to many through his
businesses,
McClure’s Bargain Center Furniture Store which he operated for over
twenty
years and McClure’s Hardware Store which he owned and operated for
several
years. He also had a real estate
business and for years was a building contractor. Hadley
was a loving husband, father, brother and
grandfather. He was preceded in death by
five brothers, Porter, Loyd, Jerry, Noah and Albert McClure, three
sisters,
Virginia Richards, Pearl Richards and Emma Jane Little.
Mr. McClure was a member of MT. Herman
Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr.
McClure are his loving wife of fifty-four years, Geneva McClure of
Blairsville,
one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Charlie Padgett of Blairsville,
two sons
and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Kellie McClure of Blairsville, Jimmy
and
Vickie McClure of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and
Marie
McClure of Fannin County, thirteen grandchildren, four great
grandchildren, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Wednesday Aug. 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the
funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Loyce Waters and Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Special music will be presented by Regina
Putnam and Casey Jones. The following
gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Andy, Bo, Chris and Jake McClure,
Jason
Harper, Kevin Rogers, Steve Byers and Brock Kelley.
Interment will follow in the Union Memory
Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet
with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Sarah Ruth Payne, age 73, of Cleveland passed away Friday, July 25,
2008 at her
residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Payne
was born in Union County the daughter of the late William Ed and Bertha
Hood
Dyer. She had lived most of her life in
White County and was preceded in death by her husband Charles Emanuel
Payne, sister Anna Mae Burnette, brother
James Perry Dyer. Mrs. Payne was a
homemaker and a member of
Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include
her sons and daughters-in-law William Gary and Rena Payne, Cleveland;

Paul and Vickie Payne, Cleveland; sons Michael Andrew Payne, Cleveland;
Charles
Emanuel Payne Jr., Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law Jeanette and

Tow, Cleveland; Sandra and Kip Lee, of Cleveland; sisters Wilma Motes,

Decatur; Genell Burns, Young Harris; Lois Allen, Blairsville; brother,
Harold
Dyer, Blairsville; 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.

services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Chapel of
Barrett
Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronnie Dockery
officiated. Burial was in Zion Baptist
Church Cemetery in Suches. The family

Dolly Cook, age 85, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, August 4,
2008 at
Union General Hospital. Mrs. Cook was
born Wednesday, June 21, 1922 I Fannin County, GA, to the late George
M. Ross
and the late Thedocia King Ross. She was
a member of Confidence United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton Cook,
sisters,
Helon Ross and Delma Pickelsimer, brothers, Elmer, Wendall, Lenard and
W.T.
Ross and granddaughter, Elisa Daniels Hix.
Survivors

“Bobby” Rogers, age 63, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, August
8, 2008
at his residence.
Mr. Rogers
was born Monday, January 8, 1945 in Union County, GA, to the late
Randal Rogers
and the late Roberts Seabolt Rogers. He
was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County and had
worked
for Rogers Food store and Ingles. He was
preceded in death by brothers, Bill and Charles Rogers and sister,
Betty Collins.

Blairsville, GA,
daughter & son-in-law, Elizabeth and Ronnie Hooper of Hiawassee,

Mr.
Michael
Matz, age 92, of Lakeside Drive, Blairsville, formerly of Ft. Myers,
FL.,
passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his home following an
extended
illness. Mr. Matz was born on Dec. 11,
1915 in New York City, NY, the son of the late Andreas Matz and the
late
Katherine Pentz Matz. Michael loved to
travel, play shuffle board and wood working.
He started, owned and operated a heating and air business in
1947, which
is still in operation today. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Lucienne Frank Matz.
Mr. Matz was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving
Mr. Matz are one daughter, Paulette Bowden of Blairsville, one son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Donna Matz of Littleton, NH, one brother,
Gus Matz
of Hampton Bay, NY, three sisters, Katherine Hasil, Susan Matz and
Gertrude
Eadie all of Hampton Bay, NY, five grandchildren, Audrey Pasierb,
Douglas Matz,
Karen Hurst, Beau Hull and Melani Hull, many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
A memorial

Mr.
William (Bill) Rupert Wilson, age 69, of Memory Lane, Blairsville,
passed away
on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following an
extended
illness. Mr. Wilson was born on June 5,
1939 in Union County, the son of the late Abe Lincoln Wilson and the
late Mary
Eliza Reece Wilson. Bill served in the
US Coast Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 121, N. GA
Honor Guard
and a member of Union-Towns Home Builders Assoc. He
was a native and lifelong resident of
Union County. He owned and operated
Wilson’s Heating and Air for many years.
Mr. Wilson was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Wilson are his loving wife of forty-one years, Gertrude Louise
Pitts Wilson
of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Randy Chapman of
Blairsville, one son, Michael Wilson of Smyrna, GA, three sisters,
Joyce
Collins of Gainesville, Martha Deavers of Blairsville, Carol Nix of
Blairsville, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Nancy Wilson
of Wales,
MI, Thomas and Alice Wilson of Johns Island, SC, one grandson, Devon,
several
nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

services were held on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at 3 p.m. form the
Mountain View
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Bone officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were members of
American Legion Post 121 and members of the N. Ga. Honor Guard. Interment followed in the Shady Grove
Methodist Church Cemetery with the N. GA. Honor Guard conducting
military
honors. The family met with friends at

Naoma “Chris” Covington, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Thursday,
August 7, 2008 at her residence.
Mrs.
Covington was born Saturday, July 3, 1920 in Warren
County, KY, to the late Frank Tatum and the late Ira Stahl Tatum. She had lived in Bowling Green, KY, and
Naples, FL, before moving to Blairsville.
She enjoyed bowling and golfing was preceded in death by son,
Jim
Covington.
Survivors
include: husband, Edward Covington of
Blairsville, GA, son and partner, David Covington and Tina Francisco of
Blairsville, GA, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
