mildred ayers thompson

           Mildred Ayers Thompson, 94, passed away in Blairsville, GA, on July 31, 2012. She had been a resident of Union County since 1979. She was born in Bridgeport, West Virginia on December 29, 1917, the second daughter of the Rev. John Wakeman Ayers and Julia Lewis Ayers and was preceded in death by husband of 47 years, Lawrence E. Thompson, II, her younger son Richard Lewis Thompson, three sisters and one brother.

           Surviving are her older son, Lawrence E. Thompson, III, (Penni) of Asheville, NC four grandchildren and eight great-grand children; and her devoted friend of recent years, Charles Haines. Her grand children are Heather T. Mackey (Don) of Kernersville, NC, Christopher Thompson (Cindy) of Louisville, KY, Richard Thompson (Jackie), of Atlanta, GA, and Chad Thompson (Brooke) of Lakeland, FL. Her great grandchildren are:
Elizabeth and Samuel Mackey of Kernersville, NC, Madison and Reagan Thompson of Louisville, KY, Stone and Steele Thompson of Buford, GA, and Eli and Ean Thompson of Lakeland, FL

           As the daughter of a Baptist minister, she lived in four different locations in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Mil was a faithful wife of her husband, known as “Ted”, who was an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They lived in nine different locations across the United States during his tenure with the FBI. After his retirement, they lived in Lakeland, FL, Highlands, NC, and Blairsville. In recent years, she traveled to Europe, Alaska, and western United States. Mildred was a member of Mountain Presbyterian Church, Blairsville and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and served for several years as a volunteer at the Branan Lodge Library.

           A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Travis Adams, is planned at the Branan Lodge, Wesley Mountain Village, in Blairsville at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 18th. In lieu of flowers, the family desires that those who wish to make contributions to the Mountain Presbyterian Church, 2945 Young Harris Highway, Blairsville, Georgia 30512, The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave. 7th Fl, New York, NY 10001 or Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Ave. 2nd Fl, New York, NY 10001-5004.

francis walter "frank" mulchaey

           Mr. Francis Walter “Frank” Mulchaey, age 76, of Honeysuckle Drive, Blairsville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 following an extended illness. Frank was born November 18, 1935 in Detroit, MI to the late Walter George and Edith Leamon Mulchaey. He moved here eleven years ago from St. Cloud, FL. Frank loved motorcycles, skiing, hunting and anything outdoors he also loved his dogs. He was a US Army veteran and was of the Catholic Faith.

           Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Barbara Mulchaey of Blairsville, children, Kathleen Stewart of Blairsville and Michael Mulchaey of Kenai, AK, sister, Dorothy and Douglas Kamp of WS, brothers, John and Louise Mulchaey of Monterey, CA and Tom Mulchaey of WS, grandchildren, Ashley Stewart and Sherman Stewart, great grandchildren, Amalia Stewart, Matthew Stewart, Jada Stewart, Emory Stewart, Ember Stewart and Sherman Stewart.

            Memorial services will be held in Alaska at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorials to Cast-A-Way Critters Pet Rescue.

myrtle t. arnold

           Mrs. Myrtle T. Arnold, age 80, of State Hwy 325, Blairsville passed away at her home on Monday, August 6, 2012 following an extended illness. Mrs. Arnold was born March 11, 1932 in Morganton, GA to the late Grover Cleveland and Radie Newman Thomas. She moved back to this area 20 years ago from Acworth. Mrs. Arnold was a retired LPN. She was preceded in death by brothers, Gordon, Carmel, Ruben, James, and J.C. Thomas, and sisters, Arizona Prince, Rose Thomas and Leslie Drummond. She attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.

           Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Earl Arnold of Blairsville and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

           Funeral services were held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Black officiating. Music by Rev. Tony Black. Pallbearers were Donald Arnold, Randy Thomas, Mike Thomas, Gary Drummond, Devin Thomas and Micah Thomas. Interment followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.

billy donald kirk

         Mr. Billy Donald Kirk, age 78, of Summit Road, Blairsville passed away Sunday August 5, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Kirk was born May 20, 1934 in Pennington Gap, VA son of the late Coner and Joanna Hobbs Kirk. He retired from Kraft Foods and moved to this area 18 years ago from Stone Mountain, GA. Mr. Kirk had a passion for woodworking and carvings, and loved making something for everyone. He loved baseball and the Cardinals. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Middleton. Mr. Kirk attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA.

           Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Annie Mae Kirk of Blairsville, daughter, Brenda Gayhart of Blairsville, son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Bobbi Kirk, Jr. of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, brothers and sisters, Kermit C. Kirk, Clay and Sheila Kirk and Wanda Campbell all of Brooksville, FL, Ed and Kathy Kirk, James Kirk, Annette Lebo, Rachel and Doug Benefield and Nina Middleton all of Chicago, Il, Roberta and Dick Slade of Hillsdale, MI, Lou and Don Middleton of Louisville, KY and Clinton and Gola Kirk of Livingston, TN, grandchildren, Amanda and Nick Reed and Matt Gayhart all of Dawsonville, GA.

           Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. from Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Eulogy by Marty Kirk. Music by Connie Sears. Pallbearers were Matt Gayhart, Nick Reed, Billy Kirk, Jr., Rick Roseberry, Kelly Kirk and Marty Kirk. Interment followed in Meadow View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish make memorial donation to the American Cancer Society. The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening after 6 p.m.
