lorene holbrooks

 

Mrs. Lorene Holbrooks, age 85, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006 at Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA.

Mrs. Holbrooks was born Monday, August 16, 1920, in Union County, Georgia to the late Elbert Rich and Bonnie Jackson Rich.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Hubert “Pete” Holbrooks; son, Lloyd Holdrooks; sisters, Geneva Nicholson and Bertha Rich.

Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Morris of Morganton, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Wade and Katherine Holbrooks of Simpsonville, SC; sisters, Jimmie Kimsey and Juanita Fair both of Blairsville; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter also survive, along with several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Alton “Cotton” Harris officiating.  Music was provided by Michael Carroll.  Interment followed in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Mickey Carroll, Jody Bowers, Steve Cofield, Cody Brown, Justin Foster, and Glenn Lewis.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Wednesday, August 9.

alice ester ferrand

 

Mrs. Alice Ester Ferrand, age 89, of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville, formerly of Haines City, FL, passed away on Sunday August 13, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness.  Mrs. Ferrand was born on Oct. 20, 1915 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late Charles Pagel and the late Ella Altman Pagel.  Before her retirement she served as secretary and city clerk for the City of Winterhaven, FL.  Mrs. Ferrand was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving Mrs. Ferrand are one daughter, Karen E. Simpson of Winterhaven, FL, one son, Gary Thomas of Clearwater, FL, her dear friend, Don Willmot of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Ferrand’s memory.

charles everett

 

Mr. Charles Everett, age 70, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006, at his residence.

Mr. Everett was born Monday, September 9, 1935, in Union County, Georgia to the late Fulmer Everett and Bonnie Queen Everett.  He was a U.s. Army Veteran and was preceded in death by sisters: Edna and Ethel amd brothers: Frank, Knox, Butler, Claude and Richard.

Survivors include: wife, Barbara Everett of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Laura and Sid Dyer, also of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Sharon and Dean Stanley of Blairsville; brother, Cecil Everett of Fort Payne, Alabama; grandson, Curtis Dyer and Nathan Stanley; several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Bob Bone and Rev. Jerry Young officiating.  Music was provided by The Kelley Trio.  Interment followed in Shady Grove Cemetery.  The following gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers:  Fulmer Lance, Edward Sexton, Harold Wimpey, Danny Everett, Dean Everett and Bobby Joe Queen.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Tuesday, August 8.

sandra burton haynes

 

Mrs. Sandra Burton Haynes, age 63, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2006 from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident while returning from a day of hiking.

Mrs. Haynes was born Monday, November 30, 1942, in Washington, GA to the late Thomas “T.C.” Burton and Frances Edmunds Burton.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville and the Mountain High Hikers.  She was preceded in death by her son David Jeffery Haynes.

Surviving Mrs. Haynes are her husband of 44 years, David Haynes of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Gaye and Pete Poisson of Cumming, GA; and three grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth, and David.

Mrs. Haynes attended LaGrange College and graduated from Massey Business College.  She was employed by several school systems during her career, the last being Dekalb County.  In retirement she was an avid hiker and also enjoyed experimenting with gourmet cooking.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge, Rev. Jim Martin and Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  Music was provided by June Caldwell, John Sutton, and Terry Hooper.  Entombment followed in laurel Hills Memorial Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were: Ben Bradley, Doug Davenport, Harold Dyer, Dick Howington, George Radcliffe and Fred Woodward.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Blairsville from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, August 12.
