Mrs.
Myrtis Virginia
Boyer (Bate) age 98 of Chapman Lane, Blairsville, a true southern lady
all her
life, went on to greet her Lord and her husband James Posey Boyer on
August 6,
2011. Her last days on this earth she
resided at the Union County Nursing home where she was attended by a
group of angels,
disguised as nurses. Bate began her life
on March 15, 1913 in Polk County FL where her parents worked as cooks
in a
phosphate mine. Her family moved to
Miami shortly after, where her father became a successful builder. Bate is survived by a brother James Donald
Bell and his wife Jeanne of Sebastian Fl. Bate
married and had two children, Joan
Chapman and James (Sonny) Boyer who both have lived in Blairsville for
several
decades. Bate moved to Blairsville in
1995 to join her children and has been living with her daughter Joan. Bate retired from the University of Miami as an
executive secretary.
Bate has
five grandchildren,
Harold Eugene Bell Jr. and his wife Deborah, of Miami; Terri Lynn Bell
of
Gainesville GA and David Scott Bell of Blairsville; Stephen Lynn Boyer
and his wife
Kay of Ft. White FL and Jaime Lorne Boyer of Blairsville.
She also has five great grandchildren,
Christopher Wade Bell of Miami, Melissa Lynn Diaz and her husband,
Albert, of
Miami, Raven Nichole Weaver and husband Mathew, of Gainesville, Mollie
Louise
Boyer of Blairsville and Emily Lorne Boyer of Blairsville.
She lived long enough to meet and have a
picture taken with her great, great grandson Jonathan Wade Diaz. There were five generations in one of the
photos.
Services
were held
at Cochran funeral home, Tuesday August 9, with viewing from 5 to 7 PM
and
services at 7 PM with Rev. Jeff Deavers, of Harmony Grove Baptist
Church and
Rev. Fred Whitley of The Church Without Walls officiating. Graveside services were held in Miami on
Friday the 12th of August by Rev. Bill Neely where Bate will rejoin her
husband, who left this earth 51 years before her.

Mrs.
Marilyn Ann
Frith, age 62, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Cleveland, TN, passed
away
Monday, August 8, 2011 in Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Frith was born
in Lowell, MA, on August 28, 1948, a daughter of the late Frederick J.
Goguen
and the late Mildred Turner Goguen. She
was a licensed practical nurse. Prior to
living in Tennessee, she was a resident of Castleberry, FL and
Plymouth, MA. Marilyn was of the Catholic
faith.
She will
be missed
by all who knew her, but especially by her loving family members:
husband,
Hammond, of Blairsville; two sons, Scott Madden of Imperial, MO, and
Thomas
Madden, of Cleveland, TN; a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Goguen, of North
Wilmington, MA.
No
services are
being held locally, but burial will be in Wilmington Cemetery in
Wilmington, MA.

Mr.
Wendell Frank “Kook” Carr, age 72, of
Blairsville went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2011 while
vacationing in Seattle, WA. Mr. Carr was
born on June 3, 1939 in Bangor, ME. He
was the son of the late Harold Tubbs Carr and the late Doris Mae Tarr
Carr. Wendell graduated from Bangor High
School in
1957 and moved to West Palm Beach, FL in the fall of 1960. He married Lauretta (MacDonald) of Hamden, ME
on June 23, 1961. He worked at R.C.A. in
Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He retired in
June of 2002 from Palm Beach County School District where he worked as
a
Facilities Evaluator in Federal Programs. Mr.
Carr was a member of Antioch Baptist
Church.
Surviving
Mr. Carr are his loving wife of fifty
years, Lauretta Carr of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Mark
and
Micki Carr of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie-Jo and
Keith
Barley of Pace, FL, four grandchildren, Michael and Mandi Carr of
Blairsville,
James and Eric Oliver of Pace, FL, two brothers, Harold (Alice) of
Brevard, NC,
Robert (Barbara) of Pickens, SC, one brother-in-law, Richard Blaisdell
of Ft.
Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by
his sister, Hazel Carr Blaisdell. Several
nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends, and brothers and
sisters in
Christ also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, August
13, 2011 at 12 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George
Cline
officiating. Special music was presented
by Patsy Phillips and Danita Kennedy. The following gentleman
served as
pallbearers: Michael Carr, James Oliver, Eric Oliver, Clarence
Phillips, Jim
Ackles and Tim Nightengale. Interment
followed in the Church Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Men’s
Ministry of
Antioch Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Carr. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Friday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Geneva Shepherd
Bryson, age 95, of Hedge Lane Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, August
9, 2011
in Union General Hospital. Mrs. Bryson
was born February 9, 1916 in Union County a daughter of the late John
and Ellen
Tanner Shepherd. She was a loving
mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother and great-great-great
grandmother,
and loved gardening and sewing. Mrs.
Bryson was preceded in death by her husband, John Bryson in 1953, sons
Ward
Bryson in 2006 and Kenneth Bryson in 2008, grandson, Michael Bryson in
2003,
three brothers and three sisters. Mrs.
Bryson was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Bryson are daughter,
Carolyn Stephens of Young Harris, GA, grandchildren, Denise Stephens of
Young
Harris, GA, Stacey and Curtis King of Blairsville, GA, Janice Cobb of
St.
Augustine, FL, and Cindy Bryson of Blairsville, GA, four
step-grandchildren,
ten great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, many nieces
and
nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday,
August 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home
with Rev.
Guy Bradley officiating. Special music
presented by Cody King. The
following
gentleman served as pallbearers Curtis King, Cody King, Larry Helton,
David
Carroll, Jack Jones and Charles Satterfield. Interment
followed in Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist
Church Cemetery. The family met with
friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

Mr.
Benny Joe Holloway, age 64, of Targa Lane, Marietta formerly of
Blairsville,
passed away on Wednesday Aug. 10, 2011 in the LeConte Medical Center in
Sevierville, TN Following a brief illness (sic). Mr.
Holloway was born on April 28, 1947 in
Union County, GA, the son of the late Elbert Bristol Holloway and the
late
Vanita Mae Carroll Holloway. Benny Joe
always enjoyed helping others and was always making everyone laugh. He was a loving husband, father, brother,
grandfather and was a friend to many. He was preceded in death by a
son, Danny
Holloway in 2002 and a brother, Austin Holloway in 2010. Mr.
Holloway was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mr. Holloway are his loving wife of thirty-six years, Sharon Spencer
Holloway
of Marietta, by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mindy Lynn and Sean Mabe
of
Powder Springs, GA, Jennifer and Michael Throne of Hawaii, one sister,
Nancy
Johnston of Ellijay, three brothers, Harvey Holloway of Griffin, GA,
Hugh
Holloway of Griffin and J. D. Holloway of Blairsville, four
grandchildren,
Kami, Madison, Abby and Katelyn, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Monday Aug. 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Ron Daniel officiating. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers,
Junior Carroll, Sean Mabe, Mike Throne, Darrell Allen, Aaron Patterson,
and
Mark Spencer. The following gentlemen
served as honorary pallbearers, Ray Moore (sic). Interment
followed in the Dillard Chapel
Cemetery. The family met with friends at

Mr.
Jonathan Nathaniel Parham, age 40, of Fern Valley Lane, Blairsville,
passed
away Sunday August 7, at his residence. Mr.
Parham was born on January 7, in Atlanta, GA. He
was employed as a plumber. He moved here 7
years ago from Atlanta, GA.
Jonathan was a loving person and had a heart of gold. He
was a loving husband, father, son, brother,
grandfather and was a friend to many. Jonathan
attended Zebulon Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Parham are his loving wife of twenty years, Shanna Parham of
Blairsville,
GA, father and step-mother, Jonathan and Tina Parham, Sr. of Dublin,
GA,
mother, Joyce Meron of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Tamara Parham and her
fiancé,
Mitch Rose of Blairsville, GA, son, Storm Parham of Blairsville, GA,
brother
and sister-in-law, Shane and Patsy Parham of Monticello, GA, sisters
and
brother-in-law, Jenny Parham of Dublin, GA and Kelly and Josh Coleman
of
Dublin, GA, and grandson, Dominic Rose of Blairsville, GA, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.

services were held on Friday August 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with Rev. R. L. Martin officiating. The

Mitch Rose, Timmothy Mulinax, Joey Nasworthy, Keaton Miller, Storm

Brian Sherman and Jeremy Lanning. Interment
followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. The
