Mrs.
Rosie Idell Nix, age 89, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville,
GA,
passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Union County Nursing Home in
Blairsville.
Mrs. Nix
was born in Union County, GA, on May 19, 1920, a
daughter of the late Seth Lonnie Nelson and Tempia Louise Collins
Nelson. She had been a lifelong resident
of Blairsville
and was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Mrs. Nix had been preceded in death by her husband, Roy Walter
Nix, in
1971; two sisters: Gladys Brown and Lillie Everett; and a brother,
Theron
Nelson.
Surviving
family members include two sisters: Mary Seabolt, of Blairsville and
Pearl
Hutson, of Ballground, GA; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives
and
friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, August 16, 2009, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Young, Rev. Harley Hunter, and Rev.
Waymond
Lovell officiating. Carolyn Smith,
accompanied by Jimm Jones, presented the music.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Carroll Brown, John Seabolt, Byron
Hutson, Jim
Everett, Jeremy Adams, and Michael Adams.
Burial was in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home was held on
Saturday evening, August 15, 2009, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Mr. , Gwendolyn Naomi Nutt, age 45, of Blairsville,
GA, passed
away suddenly on Wednesday, August 23, 2009.
Gwen was
born in Atlanta, GA, on January 3, 1964, and had
lived in Blairsville for most of her life.
She attended Youngstown Baptist Church and was a caregiver. Her husband, the late Edward M. Nutt, passed
away in 2002.
Surviving
family members include daughters and their husbands: Bethina Naomi and
randy
Patton, of Morganton, GA; Carrie Lynn steward and Chispa Torres, of
Blairsville; and son, William Jacob Nutt, of Blairsville; mother,
Dorothy
Patterson, of Blairsville; father, Rufus Chitwood, of Atlanta; sisters:
Tina
Denise Lucas, of Hawkinsville, GA, and Rhonda Lynn Hood, of
Blairsville;
brothers: John Anthony Chitwood, and Bart Arthur Chitwood, both of
Blairsville,
and William Dean Chitwood, of Mineral bluff, Georgia; six
grandchildren: Paige
Nicole Patton, James Dean Patton, Levi Edward Patton, savannah Grace
Patton,
Kenneth Edwin Torres, and Emily Rosa Torres.
Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, August 16, 2009, at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of
Cochran
funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Jonathan Hood officiating. Special music was presented by Youngstown
Quartet. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Randy Patton, Chispa Torres, Dean Chitwood, Bart
Chitwood, John
Chitwood, and Daniel Chitwood. Burial
was in Owltown Church of God Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home was held on Saturday, August 15,
2009,
from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Mr.
Donald
James Britton, age 64, of Blairsville passed away at home on Saturday,
August 8
following a short illness. Mr. Britton
was born on March 8, 1945, in Toronto, Canada.
Don and his wife Ann have worked together in Blairsville as
Britton
realty for more than a decade. He was
well known among family, friends and clients not only for his wisdom
and
expertise, but also for a wonderful sense of humor.
Don wrote a real estate column in the North
Georgia News the past several years. Mr.
Britton was preceded in death by his parents Norm and Rita, and brother
Bob.
Surviving Don
is his loving wife Ann, two sons and two grandchildren, Vincent
(Nicole), Jack
and Chris Britton of Lake Worth, FL, and Jeffrey Britton of Tampa, FL;
three
brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mary Britton of Portage, Canada, Doug
and Judy
Britton of Blairsville, ted Britton and Bill Hilsinger of Pacifica, CA;
and
many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Canada.
A celebration of life service will be
held on Thursday, August 27, 7 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home with
Phillip
Meeks officiating and visitation following.

Mrs. Opal
Faye Hamby, age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, August
14,
2009 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Hamby was born April 24, 1933 in Union County, Georgia,
the daughter of the late Leonard and Mattie Mae Shook Howell. She was a native and long time resident of
Union County and was
a member of the Choestoe Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.
Surviving
family members include her husband, Dennis Hamby
of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Randy Hensley of
Duluth,
GA; and Kathy and Ron Guess of Sugar Hill, GA; granddaughter, Shannon
Edwards
of Buford, GA, and grandson, Jacob Hensley of Sugar Hill.
Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, August 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. from Choestoe
Baptist
Church with Rev. Ken Zollinger and Chaplain Ron Guess officiating. The body lay in state at the church Monday
from 12:30 until 1 p.m. Special music
was presented by Eddie Owens. Serving as
pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Buck Martinez, Eddie Owens,
Randy
Hensley, Jacob Hensley, Dean Collins Shannon Edwards and Keith Howell. Interment followed in Choestoe Cemetery. The family met with friends on Sunday
evening, from 6 until 9 p.m.
