Mr. Alfred Garnie Dyer, age 77, of Blairsville, GA passed away Sunday, August 14, 2005 following a period of declining health.  Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his wife Vivan Mary Crumley Dyer and her parents Alfred G. Dyer, Sr. and Maudie Brown Dyer.  Surviving are his daughter Mrs. Gloria Penrod of Conyers, GA, son, Robert G. Dyer of Blairsville, GA, sister Mrs. Naomi Black of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Robert Dyer, Dawn Brown, Clint Dyer, Chris Phillips and Chad Phillips; great-grandchildren Dustin Dyer, Wyatt Dyer, Lauren Brown and Cade Brown and a number of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 16, 2005 from the chapel of the Funeral Home with the Rev. Vicki McVay officiated.  Interment was in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mrs. ethel goss berglund

 

Mrs. Ethel Goss Berglund, age 73, of Forrister Place, Blairsville, made her transition on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 at her home following a long illness.  Ethel was born on Oct. 3, 1931 in Richmond, VA., the daughter of the late Stanley Garland Goss and the late Virginia Squires Goss.  Later moving to Lynn, MA., being employed by General Electric and later by Colby Jr. College in New London, NH.

Ethel was truly a person of love and light sharing personality with all who came in contact with her.  Her warm smile was a blessing and her love of God always given freely.  She will be missed by many and the world was a better place while she was here.

She was a member of the Plainfield Christian Science Church Independent in Plainfield, NJ., and later attended Unity Church of the Mountains in Blairsville.  She was a longtime member of the Mayflower Assoc. and DAR in Sarasota, FL.

Surviving Mrs. Berglund are her loving husband of forty-nine years, Russell Townsend Berglund of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Ann and David McCabe of Ogdensburg, NY., one son, George Stanley Berglund of Sarasota, FL., one granddaughter, Shannon Joy Lamb of Sarasota, great grandchildren, Sean Nichole Lamb, George Anthony and Dayton Gregarlo all of Sarasota, many other loving friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Georgia Mtn. Hospice, PO Box 580, Jasper, GA. 30143 in Mrs. Berglundís memory.

mr. earl lindley turner

 

Mr. Earl Lindley Turner, age77 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Turner was born Wednesday, Mach 28, 1928 in Cobb County, Georgia to the late Robert Clarence Turner and Minnie Lynch Turner.  He was of the Baptist faith and was an U.S. Army Veteran.  He had lived in Blairsville for two years, moving here from the Atlanta area.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Turner; son, Tommy Turner; brother, Bill Turner and sister, Myrtis Turner.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teresa turner of Blairsville; daughter, Pat Napier of Woodstock, Georgia; daughter & son-in-law, Jackie and Wayne Ramey of Rockmart, Georgia; son & daughter-in-law, Joe and Jean Siddons of Temple, Georgia; son & daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kelly White of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Sara Pritchatt of Lilburn, Georgia and Grace Marin of Opp, Alabama; brother, Roy Tuner of Austell, Georgia; grandchildren, Curtis Turner of Nashville, Tennessee; Pam Turner of Blairsville, Georgia; Rob Napier of Stockbridge, Georgia; Christie Mahon, Joey Siddons, Danny Siddons, Jessie Siddons of Temple, Georgia; Joval Siddons of Temple, Georgia; Tricia Kloberdanz of Hoschton, Georgia; Ralph White and Lani White; great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Stephen, Gabe, Peyton and Eason; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Medford-Peden Funeral Home, Marietta, Georgia with Dr. Ron Bradley officiating. 

The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday, August 19 at Cochran Funeral Home, Blairsville and Saturday, August 20, from 2-4 p.m. at Medford-Peden Funeral Home, Marietta, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Georgia Baptist Childrens Home.

mrs. sarah nell patterson

 

Mrs. Sarah Nell Patterson, age 85 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Patterson was born Saturday, December 20, 1919 in Union County, Georgia to the late Ralph Conley and Estelle Rich Conley.  She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Patterson; son, Tony Patterson; brothers: Charles Conley, John Conley and Bobby Conley.  Mrs. Patterson was a school teacher in the Union County School System and retired after 34 years of service.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Rob and Susan Patterson of Dacula, Georgia; daughter & son-in-law, Barbara and Bill Evans of Neptune Beach, Florida; sister, Frances Conley Harrison of Macon, Georgia; brother, Jim Conley of Blairsville, Georgia; sister, Ann Conley Miller of Winder, Georgia; granddaughters: Nichole Evans, Lisa Evans Boley and Courtney Quinones; grandson, Russ Patterson; great-grandson, Ryan Boley; great-granddaughters: Rachel Boley and Sarah Patterson; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were: Jim Conley, Larry Conley, Melvin Conley, Russ Patterson.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 7-9, Monday, August 22.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to: Alzheimerís Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601 or to Georgia Mountain Hospice, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, GA 30143.

Mrs. Cindy Sue Buchanan, age 40 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at her residence.

Mrs. Buchanan was born Thursday, January 7, 1965 in Broward Co, Florida to Leo Earl Vallies and Lois Genevieve Saye Vallies of Hiawassee, GA.  She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by brother, Gary Lee Vallies.

Surviving in addition to her parents: husband, James Buchanan of Blairsville, Georgia; sister, Patricia Heilman of Hiawassee, Georgia; sister-in-law, Patricia Vallies of Blairsville; sister-in-law Tabitha Payne and husband Charles of Blairsville; mother-in-law, Jodie Buchanan; father-in-law, Jim Buchanan; 4 nieces, 2 nephews and 1 great nephew.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Minister Terry Stuart officiating. 

The family received friends at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, August 20.

mrs. edith jane sullivan

 

Mrs. Edith Jane Sullivan, age 83, of Clermont, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2005 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Mrs. Sullivan was born Friday, October 24, 1921 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Joseph Ballew and Jane West Ballew.  Mrs. Sullivan was a member of Union Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by husband, Clyde Sullivan; brother, Richard Ballew; sisters, Kate Dyer and Rachael Spivia.

Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, JoAnn & Stan Lloyd of Clermont, Georgia; son & daughter-in-law, Dan & Gail Sullivan of Cumming, Georgia; sister, Genelle Sullivan of Blairsville, GA, granddaughters: Jonda Radake, Jeannine Crowe, Jennifer Hoyt and Beth Lloyd; grandson, Joe Lloyd; great-grandchildren: Keigan Radake, Kamdyn Radake and Ethan Hoyt; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 22, 2005 at 3 p.m. from the Union Baptist Church with Rev. Benny Nix officiating.  Interment followed in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen:  Jimmy Spivia, Michael Spivia, Ralph Dyer, Earl Sullivan, Royce Dyer and Buddy Rowan.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 4-7, Sunday, August 21.
