mrs. kathryn lorraine vanevera durbin

 

Mrs. Kathryn Lorraine VanEvera Durbin, age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2002 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Durbin was born in Jackson County, Missouri, on Monday, November 9, 1914, a daughter of the late Reynier VanEvera and Josephine Ruth Walker VanEvera.  She was a homemaker and had lived in Blairsville since 1984, moving here from Plant City, Florida.  Mrs. Durbin was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bryce E. Durbin, Sr., of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Doris Durbin of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Lee and Mel Hegwood, of Comer, Georgia; sister, Erma Tobler, of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kathleen Rebor, Edward Hegwood, Bryce Durbin, III, Diana Durbin, and Susan Durbin, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Bill Ernest officiating.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you may donate a book to the Union County High School Library.

mrs. mary lee erwin

 

Mrs. Mary Lee Erwin, age 91, of Blairsville, GA, widow of William Robert Erwin, passed away Monday, August 21, 2002 following a period of declining health.  Mrs. Erwin was born in Union County, GA the daughter of the late Jessie and Dovie Townsend Souther.  She was a homemaker and a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, William Gary Erwin of Blairsville, GA; brother, Paul W. Souther, Young Harris, GA; sister, Pearl Welborn, Blairsville, GA; other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 22, 2002 at 2 pm from the Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating.  Interment was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Bill Kuykendall, Buck Kuykendall, Clarence Collins, David Rogers, Earl Roberts, Eugene Kuykendall.  Music was provided by U.E. and Dorothy Sampson.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.

mrs. margaret mary cage

 

Mrs. Margaret Mary Cage, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, August 19, 2002 in Canton, Georgia.

Mrs. Cage was born in Camden, New Jersey, on Sunday, January 6, 1929, a daughter of the late Charles Caraker and Margaret Baldwin Caraker.  Mrs. Cage had been a public school teacher in Seminole Elementary School.  She had been living in the Blairsville area part-time since 1982, and since 1992, full time, moving her from Miami, Florida.  She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.  Her husband, John William Cage, passed away in 1999.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Aldie Lee and James Larry Baker of Canton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Michael William and Pamela Lynne Cage of Coconut Creek, Florida; brother, Charles S. Caraker of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandchildren, David William Bookhammer of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Kathryn Elizabeth Bookhammer, of Corinth, Texas, Brenna Lynne Cage and Daniel William Cage, both of Coconut Creek, Florida; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Mass was held Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 11 am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Dean Bill Diehl officiating.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville. Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville entrusted with the arrangements.

mrs. michael deb england daniel

 

Mrs. Michael Deb England Daniel, age 89, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, August 23, 2002 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Daniel was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, August 14, 1913 a daughter of the late James Perry England and Hassie Kelley England.  She had lived in Blairsville for most of her life and had been employed at a local shoe manufacturing business.  Mrs. Daniel attended The House of Prayer Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Moore, of Spartenburg, South Carolina; her son, Kenneth Daniel of Andrews, North Carolina; three sisters, Myrna Kelly of Blairsville, Johnnie Smith of Hiram, Georgia, and Mary Ruth Parker of Austell, Georgia; a brother, Vaughn England of Blairsville; six grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 25, 2002 at 2 pm, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Douglas England, Larry Prather, Jimmy Parker, Billy Kelley, Gary Redmond, and Jeff Kelley.  Interment was in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.

mr. larry thomas gazaway

 

Mr. Larry Thomas Gazaway, age 53, of Gaza-way Road, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2002 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Gazaway was born on May 9, 1949 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late Thomas R. Gazaway and Mary Augusta Self Gazaway.  Mr. Gazaway was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW, and the army and Navy Union.  He was the owner and operator of A & L Locksmith Service in Blairsville.  Mr. Gazaway was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving Mr. Gazaway are his loving wife, Aurora Avalos Gazaway of Blairsville; mother, Mary Augusta Self Gazaway of Blairsville; three stepsons and daughter-in-laws, Pete and Lezley Rochas of Irvin, TX, Jesse and Tara Rocha of Young Harris, Julian and Leah Rochas of Froth Worth, TX; five grandchildren, Rudy, Brandon, Jordon and Leslie Rocha, and Tana Mishaye, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services were held on Monday, August 26, 2002 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.   Special music was presented by Mindy Combs and Suzie Larocca.  Military honors were conducted by the North Georgia Honor guard.

mr. ernest chill martin

 

Mr. Ernest Chill Martin, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 18, 2002 in Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center in Lake land, Georgia.  HE was born Sunday, October 31, 1915 in Union County, Georgia, a son of the late Ab Martin and Carrie Cannon Martin.  Mr. Martin had lived in Blairsville until approximately three years ago, when he came to Homerville, Georgia to be closer to his family.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, the Methodist Menís Club and the Blairsville Historical society.  Mr. Martin had been preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Fullbright Martin; a daughter, Jeri Martin Bentley; and a great grandson, A.J. Bentley, III.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Mack Manley of Homerville, Georgia; grandchildren, Joe Bentley, Cheri Bentley, Beth Thrift, and Laurie and Curt Malcolm; great grandchildren, Ann Dallas Bentley, Laurie Anna Pittman, Maura Pittman, Statton Malcolm, and Sara Grayson Malcom.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 11 am from Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tom Rogers, Ron Taylor, Paul Colditz, Les Myers, Lamar Paris, Ron Byers, Bud Akins, and Maurice Farabee.
