sheldon evon patterson

 

Mr. Sheldon Evon Patterson, age 62, of Shelynda Lane, Blairsville passed away on Friday, August 25, 2006 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Patterson was born on May 14, 1944.  The son of the late Millard Patterson and the late Alean Hunt Patterson.  Mr. Patterson owned and operated Today’s Hearing Aid Center of Blairsville.  He was a member of the Young Cane Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Collen Patterson in 1936 and Collyn Patterson in 1940.

Surviving Mr. Patterson are one daughter and son-in-law, Shelynda and Tommy Jones of Ellijay; one son, Chris Patterson of Lafayette, GA, one sister and brother-in-law, Condice and Melvin Collins of Murfreesboro, TN; two nieces, Rayann Collins and Catrina Atkins of TN; great-niece, Mallory Atkins; great-nephew, Maddox Atkins; four grandchildren, Tori and Nicholas Jones, Ciara and Ansley Patterson, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.  Special music was presented by the church choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Chris Patterson, Jimmy Thompson, Butch Patterson, Richard Wheeler, James Grizzle and Mike Grigline.  Interment followed in the church cemetery with the Young Cane Lodge Conducting Masonic Rites.

dorris george colbert

 

Mr. Dorris George Colbert of Crawford Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday August 25, 2006 in the St. josephs Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness.  Mr. Colbert was born on October 26, 1929 in Fannin County, GA.  The son of the late Dewey Colbert and the late Emer Lee Colbert.  Mr. Colbert was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Colbert are his loving wife of fifty-four years, Hazel Jones Colbert; four children, C.A. and Beverly Ingram of MA; Elouise Weaver of Douglasville, Rev. James and Sharon Ingram of Hiram, Jo and Carroll Weaver of Blairsville; sister, Sylma Peevey of Morrow, GA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday August 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Ingram and Rev. Bill Dyer officiating.  The grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

ruth nolan lauridsen

 

Mrs. Ruth Nolan Lauridsen, age 89, of McIntosh Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs.  Lauridsen was born on May 5, 1917 in Chicago, IL.  The daughter of the late Harvey Harry Nolan and the late Addie Mason Nolan.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty two years, Roy Lauridsen in 1990; four brothers, Ernest, Roy, Chuck, and Victor Nolan, also by a sister and brother-in-law, who she was raised by, Myrtle and William Speaker.  She was a member of the O.E.S.  Mrs. Lauridsen was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Lauridsen are one daughter, Joyce Mackel of Blairsville; two sisters, Janet Meshew of key West, FL, Louise Berger of KS; two grandchildren, Janet Meshew of Key West and Louise Berger of KS; six great-grandchildren, Amelia, Soren, Maranda, Nevin, Nia, and Justin; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 18, 2006 at 7 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Honaker officiating.  Interment and graveside services followed on Tuesday August 29 at 7 p.m. from the Lake Wales Cemetery in Lake Wales, FL.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to United Hospice in Mrs. Lauridsen’s memory.

barbara jones wheeler

 

Mrs. Barbara Jones Wheeler, age 66, of Green Ln., Blairsville, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Wheeler was born on August 18, 1940 in Parkin, Arkansas.  The daughter of the late James Jones and the late Florence Harris Jones.  She was raised in Ft. Meade, FL.  She retired from Cargill Industries Phosphate Mine in 1990 and moved to the mountains to be with her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents and, also a brother who died in Vietnam, Harlan Harris.  Mrs. Wheeler was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Wheeler are three daughters and a son, Cheryl and Keith Weaver of Blairsville, George and Connie Walker of Blairsville, Rayannette Wheeler of Blairsville, Melissa Wheeler of Blairsville; one brother, Harold Harris of Avon Park, FL; four grandchildren, Amber and Brent Laney, James Weaver, all of Blairsville, Chris and David Weaver of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Anderson, Nicole Weaver, Dylan Weaver, Briana Wheeler all of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, August 18, 2006 at 7 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Jeremy Henderson officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Wheeler’s memory.

mack r. dunkle

 

Mr. Mack R. Dunkle of Emerine Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Dunkle was born on May 2, 1926 in Jersey Shore, PA.  The son of the late George Warfield Dunkle and the late Faith Richards Dunkle.  He was a veteran of the US Navy of WWII and had retired from the US Postal Service in 1982 as a mail carrier.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Seni Marie Eyer in 1985.  Mr. Dunkle was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Surviving Mr. Dunkle are his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Donna June Reitzel Dunkle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Freda Dunkle of Blairsville, Terry and Mary Dunkle of Danbury, CT: two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Eldon Arndt of Blairsville, Denise and Jerry Booth of Williamsport, PA; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou and Clair Robinson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Gladys Dunkle, Donald all of Jersey Shores, IN; Marilyn Dunkle of KY; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Friday September 1, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Tombs Run Cemetery in Jersey Shores, PA with the Rev. Richard Jones officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may e made to the Tract League at www.tractleague.com in Mr. Dunkle’s memory.

john dewey spiva

 

John Dewey Spiva, age 77, of Eufaula, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at his home.

Mr. Spiva was born October 20, 1928 in Blairsville, GA.  He was the son of the late Gardner and Ethel Spiva.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian S. Dillard.  A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Spiva retired from Mead after thirty-five years of service.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary Ann Spiva; one son, Ricky (Pam) Spiva of Eufaula, AL, one daughter, Becky (Gerald) Cook of Clayton, AL; one sister, Geraldine Elmore of Tuscaloosa, AL; one brother, Royce Spiva of Clinton, TN; one granddaughter, Nicole (Steve) Hawkins of Eufaula, AL; three grandsons, Lee Spiva of McDonough, GA, Page McDonald of Eufaula, AL, and Jeremy Duke of Auburn, AL: one great-granddaughter, Shelby Hawkins also of Eufaula, AL.

Graveside services were held Friday, August 25, 2006 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 12 p.m. CDT and were officiated by Johnny Gilmore.

The family received friends Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 6-8 CDT at the Chapman Funeral Home in Eufaula, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Wiregrass Hospice of Eufaula, P.O. Box 1378, Eufaula, AL 36027.

hollis crayton conn

 

Mr. Hollis Crayton Conn, age 92, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Jackson, MS, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at Heritage health Care of Blue Ridge in Blue Ridge, GA.

Mr. Conn was born Tuesday, February 10, 1914 in Lincoln County, MS, to the late Benjamin Cornelius Conn and the late Carrie Drummond Conn.  He worked as an accountant for most of his life with Luzianne Coffee Company, and also with H & R Block.  He was a member and choir member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, MS and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Mr. Conn was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Brock Conn, in 1993; a sister, Etta Mae Smith; and a grandson, Michael Reed.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mike Reed, of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Tommie McHale of Montana; and a brother, J.B. Conn, of Melbourne, FL.

Graveside services were held Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the East haven Cemetery with the Rev. Cliff Nelson officiating.
