Mr.
Otis Ray Garrett, age 88, of Blairsville, GA formerly of Murphy, died
Sunday,
August 23, 1998 in an Union County GA
nursing home.
Mr. Garrett
was a native of Cherokee County, NC and was a farmer.
He was a member and Deacon of he
Bell Hill Baptist Church for thirty years. He
was the son of the late Emory and Bessie
Roberts Garrett and was preceded in death by sister
Edna Brown and a stepson Alvin Sneed.
Surviving are
his wife, Edith Floyd Garrett; two sons, Earnest and Herman Garrett of
Blairsville, GA; three daughters, Ruby Collins of Blairsville, GA.,
Katherine
Thomas of Blue Ridge, GA., and Mary Barrelett of Atlanta, GA.; five
stepsons,
Jim, J.C., bobby, Ted, and Randall Sneed all of Murphy, NC.; five
stepdaughters, Hazel Stiles, Mary Stiles, Eula Mae Stiles, Billie
Ledford and
Linda Hawkins all of Murphy, NC.; two brothers, Carl Garrett of
Blairsville,
GA. And Roland Garrett of marble, NC.; five sisters, Edith Keenum,
Irene
Rhodes, Susie Duncan and Lela Mae King all of Hendersonville, NC., and
Ellen
Croft of Gastonia, NC.; thirty-eight grandchildren, forty-three great
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday August 25,
1998 at the Bell Hill Baptist Church, Murphy, NC. The Revs. Jerry
Rice
and Charlie Stalcup will officiate. Burial
will be in the Bell Hill Baptist Church
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday,
August 24, 1998 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home, Murphy, NC.,
where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes
prior to
the service hour.

of lowers memorials may be made to the Bell Hill

Mrs.
Atha G. Raper Patterson, age 81, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Thursday,
August 27, 1998 in Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs.
Patterson was born Monday, January 1, 1917 in Cherokee County, NC a
daughter of
the late Marshall Raper and Adens Beaver Raper.
She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in this area. Mrs. Patterson was a member of Macedonia
Baptist Church. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Doyle C. Patterson in 1996 and a daughter, Irene
Beavers
in 1986.
Surviving are
daughters, Gladys Patterson and Rosa Mae Sparks both of Blairsville and
Annie
Bell Davis of Blue Ridge; sons, Clinton and Clifton Patterson both of
Blairsville; brothers, Howard, Horace, Buck and Ronia Raper all of
Kannapolis,
NC; sisters, Bonnie Noble of LeBelle, FL and Hazel Smith, Claudine
Dudley and
Charlene Scott all of Kannapolis, NC; 12 grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren
and 3 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, August 29, 1998 at 2
p.m. from Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev.
Mark Towery
officiating. Special music was presented
by Mrs. Odina Gibson, Mrs. Ines Conley and Mrs. Selma Bradley. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jamey and Robby Patterson, Steve Ware, Jerry Ware, Press
Beavers,
and Ray Townson. Interment was in the
church cemetery.

Little
Michaela Renee Westberry, 22 months of age, in Nelson, Georgia, passed
away
suddenly Monday, August 24, 1998 at her home.
Surviving
are her parents, Bob and Rachel Westberry, and her brother, Cole, of
Nelson,
GA; Maternal grandparents, Jack and Betty Martin, of Brooklet, GA;
paternal
grandparents, James and Nancy Westberry of Gainesville; Maternal great
grandmother, Louise martin, of Brooklet; great grandfather, Edward
Wiggins,
Sr., of Swainsboro, GA; and paternal great grandparents, James and Mary
Westberry, of Blairsville. many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, August 28, 1998 at 2 p.m.
from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Harold
Sangster officiating. Interment was at
Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Cochran

Mr.
Will Robert Cantrell, age 93, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday,
August
24, 1998 at his home. Mr. Cantrell was
born in Monroe County, TN, on Wednesday, December 14, 1904, a son of
the late
Harvey Cantrell and Vina Denney Cantrell.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Mr.
Cantrell had lived most of his life in
this area and was a farmer. He was of
the Baptist faith.
Surviving are
his wife, Ruth Plott Cantrell of the home; son and daughter-in-law,
Bill and
Wanda Cantrell of Blairsville; granddaughter, Jill Cantrell Passmore of
Blairsville; step-children, Johnnie Hight of Atlanta, Bobbie Ogden of
Jesup,
Sue Walden of Dahlonega, James Hemphill of Blairsville, Elwood Hemphill
of
Chicago, IL, and Bennie Quick of Helendale, CA; brothers,
Johnny Cantrell, Dave Cantrell, and
Pryor Cantrell all of Blairsville and Link Cantrett of Ballground, GA;
great-grandchildren, Brannon, Nikki and Josh Passmore; many other
friends and relatives
also survive.
Graveside
services were held Thursday, August 27, 1998 at 2
p.m. from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Guy Bradley
officiating. The following gentlemen
served as
pallbearers: Bill Reams, Jerry Hemphill, Rex Hemphill, Kenny Hemphill,
Allen
Plott andErvin Plott. In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church

Mrs.
Helen Sloss Garrison, age 80, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday,
August
21, 1998 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Garrison was born January 31, 1918, in Allegheny
County, PA, a daughter of the late William Pietsch and Alma Weiss
Pietsch. Mrs. Garrison was employed by
Girl Scouts of
western PA. She was the beloved wife of
the late Raymond Sloss and Odie Garrison and sister of the late William
Pietsch.
Surviving are
her son, Ray E. Sloss of Vero Beach, FL; daughter, Kathie Stewart of
Gibsonia;
3 grandchildren; sisters, Alma Walter and Ruth Zumbrook both of
Pittsburg; many
other friends and relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, August 24, 1998 at 10
a.m. from Beinhauers Funeral Home in Pittsburg with interment in
Jefferson
Memorial Park. The family

Mrs.
Monnie C. Lunsford, age 77, of Atlanta, Georgia and formerly of Suches,
Georgia,. died
Saturday August 29,1998 in
Atlanta Georgia following an extended illness
A Lumpkin
County native and former resident of Suches, Georgia, Mrs. Lunsford had
lived
in Atlanta, Georgia for the past 5 years.
Mrs. Lunsford was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Lebanon
Baptist
Church in Suches, GA. Mrs. Lunsford was
the daughter of the late E.A. and Bessie Turner Cain,
was preceded in death by her husband, John Norman Lunsford, and two
sons,
Thomas Dewey Lunsford and John Robert Lunsford.
Survivors
include two daughters, Mrs. Joan Simpson of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Anita
Duck of
Braselton, GA; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several
nieces,
nephews and other relatives also survive.
At her
request, Mrs. Lunsford was cremated and a memorial
service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 1998 from the
Mt.
Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches, GA.
The Rev. Gerald Edmondson will officiate with the interment of
the
cremain to follow in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery.
