Mrs.
Flora Stephens Thomasson, age 95, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away,
Monday,
August 30, 1999 in Union County, Georgia.
Mrs.
Thomasson was a native of union County and was born on Wednesday
February 10,
1904, a daughter of the late Joseph Grayson Stephens and Emma Kelley
Stephens. She was a graduate of Cherokee
County, NC High, and received a teaching certificate from Cullowhee
Normal
Teachers College in Cullowhee, which later became Western Carolina
University. Mrs. Thomasson was a member of
Antioch
Baptist Church, and had been active for 50 years, as a Sunday School teacher and other programs.
Mrs. Thomasson was preceded in death by her
husband, the late James Garlin Thomasson.
Surviving
are her son and daughter in law, James Homer and Marilyn Thomasson, of
Marietta;
daughter and son in law, Bennie Jo and former Congressman Ed Jenkins,
of
jasper, GA; four grandchildren: Cindy Shearin, of Manhattan Beach, CA,
Pamela
Harris, of Maryville, TN. Janice Jenkins, of Roswell, GA and Amy Dotson
of
Huntsville, AL; great grandchildren: Sam and Drew Dotson, of
Huntsville, AL and
Nicole Shearin. Of Manhattan Beach, CA; many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 1, 1999 at 1 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. George Cline and Rev.
Billy
Raburn officiating. Special music was
presented by Patsy Davenport, Ginger Carey, Debbie and Danita Owenby. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Bill Drake, Cecil Lance, Jack Drake, Charles Jenkins,
Kenneth
Jenkins, and Troy and Don Phillips. Interment
was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. If you with memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist
Church.

The
Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the passing away of Mrs.
Lillian
Irene Cole, age 86, of Newnan, Georgia.,
who passed
away Monday, August 30, 1999 in the Peachtree Regional Hospital. She was a native of Union County, Georgia,
the daughter of the late Allen and Americus Ledford Colwell. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church, in Blue Ridge.
She
is survived by her husband, Harold Cole of Newnan; four sons, Philip
Cole of
Summerville, Fla., Jack Cole of Jonesboro, GA., Gary Cole, of Norcross,
GA.,
John Cole, of Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Doris Higdon of Lakeland,
Fla.,
Carolyn Freels, of Oak City, Okla., and Wanda Burdette of Newnan, GA.;
one
sister, Mrs. Frankie Styles of Blue Ride, 21 grandchildren and 29 great
grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be conducted Thursday, September 2, at 1 p.m., form the
Akins
Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Lowery, Rev. Harold Lowery and Rev. Charles
Edward
Godfrey officiating. Music was by the
Hipps Chapel Singers. Grandsons served
as pallbearers. Interment was in the
Chastain Memorial Park.
