Mrs.
Ethel S. Davenport, age 91, of Blairsville, GA passes away Friday,
September 4,
1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Davenport was born in Union County, GA on Thursday, June 13, 1907, a daughter of the late Frank Loransey Souther and
Docia
Johnson Souther. She was a homemaker, a
member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville since 1925, a former
employee of
Georgia Boot and a lifelong resident of this area.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
J.P. “Press” Davenport, a daughter, Vivan Chambers, a son, Douglas
Davenport.
Surviving
are son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Barbara T. Davenport of
Blairsville;
son-in-law, Kenneth R. Chambers of Cleveland, GA; granddaughters:
Sydney C.
Vandiver, Cayce Friedly, Laurie C. Shelnut; grandsons: Doug Davenport,
Matthew
Chambers; great-granddaughters: Maureen and Sydney Shelnut; and many
other friends
and relatives.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, September 6, 1998 at 3
p.m. from First Baptist Church of Blairsville with the Rev. B.A.
Buchanan and
Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Special
music was presented by T. Terry Hooper, Jackie Hill, and Mignon Tucker. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Charles Jenkins, Edgar Jenkins, Kenneth Jenkins, Tim
Garrerd,
Mitchell Vandiver, and Avery Shelnut.
Interment was in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Robert Reid Dyer, Sr., age 70, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Monday,
August 31, 1998 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr. Dyer
was born on Friday, August 10, 1928, a son of the late Vernon Patrick
Dyer and
Pauline Watkins Dyer. He was a veteran
of the US Army. Mr. Dyer lived in
Decatur; GA for 33 years, where he was a postal worker in the Atlanta
office
for over 30 years. Mr. Dyer was a member
of the Lions Club of Union County, Young Cane Masonic Lodge, #597,
F&AM;
The Appalachian Shrine Club, The American Legion, Post #121; and was
also a
member of the Class of 1947; of Union County High School.
Surviving are
daughters: Ellen Dillinger, of Blairsville, and Marcia E. Dyer, of
Tucker, GA’;
son, Robert Reid Dyer Jr., of Blairsville; step son and
daughter-in-law, Ed and
Linda Rich of Acworth, GA; brothers: Ralph W. Dyer, Gordon B. Dyer, and
Joseph
A. Dyer, all of Blairsville; 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren
also
survive. A brother Newton Dyer, passed away in 1990.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 2, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev.
Grover
Jones and Rev. Keith Jones officiating. Special
music was presented by Johnny Huggins. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Reid Dyer, Logan Dyer, Brian
Dyer,
Derick Dillinger, Jamey Mull, and Phillip Dyer.
Serving as honorary escort to the family were members of the
Applachain
Shire Club, Union County Lions Club, and member of classof 1947, UCHS. Military honors were presented by North
Georgia Honor Guard, with Interment in New Liberty Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Mr.
William Edward Cook, Sr., age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Saturday, September 5, 1998 at his home.
Mr. Cook
was born on Wednesday, November 21, 1934, in Towns County, Georgia, a sons of the late Andrew Cook and Alice
Pickelsimer
cook. He was a retired heavy equipment
operator and had lived in this area for most of his life.
Mr. Cook
was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
He had been preceded in death by a sister, Julia Deyton, and a
brother,
N.A. Cook.
Surviving are his wife, Ovalee Cook,
of Blairsville; daughters: Shelia
Doris Cook Thacker, and Sandra Kay Cook Seabolt, both of Blairsville. Sons: William Edward Cook. Jr.,
and Jerry Lee Cook, both of Blairsville.
Sisters: Lucille Sisum, of Hoschton, GA; Meude Harkins of
Bethlehem, GA,
Annie Bell Grissom, of Blairsville and Lillie Ann Criswell of Ellijay. Brothers: Jimmy Cook of Blairsville, Wilburn
Cook and David Cook, both of Lawrenceville, GA. 10 grandchildren, 2
great
grandchildren and inlaws, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, September 7, 1998 at 2
p.m. from Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev.
Charles
Abernathy officiating. Special music was
presented by Ted Holbrooks, Leona Hunter, and Herbert Teague. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: James Cook, Vernon Cook, Clifford Cook, Calvin Holbrooks,
Larry
Moon and Howard Banks with interment in Confidence Methodist Church
Cemetery.
