Mrs.
Dollie Meers Payne, age 104, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Monday,
September 1, 1997 in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Payne was born March 8, 1893, kin Fannin County,
Georgia, a daughter of the late Andy Meers and Cynthia Petty Meers. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of
Union County. She was a member of
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Payne
had been preceded in death by her husband Elisha Payne.
Surviving
are son, Clyde Payne of Blairsville, Oliver Payne of Blue Ridge, GA.,
and
Junior Payne of Chatsworth, GA.; daughters, Erma Patton of Copperhill,
TN., and
Irene Allen of Blairsville; 24 grandchildren, several great
grandchildren and
several great great grandchildren also survive, along with nieces and
nephews.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 3, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Earl Pickelsimer, Rev.
Steve
Youngblood, and Rev. Gene Thomason officiating.
Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young, and Dorothy
Pickelsimer. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Scott Payne, Joey
Patton, Randall Allen, James Payne, Wendell Payne, and Danny Davenport. Interment was in PLEASANT
Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs.
Gwendolyn Murphy, age 46, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
September 2, 1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Murphy was born in Gilmer County, Georgia, a daughter
of the late Garnett Shirling and Lorene Bowman Shirling.
She had lived in this area for most of her
life and was of the Baptist faith. and the
late.
Surviving
are her husband, Michael David Murphy, of Blairsville; daughter, Lynn
Street of
Carrollton, GA.; step sons, Justin and Paul Murphy, of Blue Ridge, GA.;
brother, Richard Shirling of Covington, GA.; and sister, Barbara
Devane, of
Carrollton, GA.; one grandchild also survive.

Mr.
Joseph T. Vignola, age 64, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
August
31, 1997 at his home.
Mr.
Vignola was born in Kings County, New York on February
14, 1933, a son of the late Anthony Vignola and Loretta Biondolillo
Vignola. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army. Mr. Vignola had been employed many
years with Broward Bancshares, Century Banks and Souther Banks. He was serving as Vice President Controller
with Century South Banks.
Surviving
are his wife, Mary Viliante Vignola of Blairsville; daughters, Barbara
Ann
Barger of Hickson, TN., Laura Marie Bonelli of Boca Raton, Florida and
Lynda
Louise Padgett of Dallas, GA.; sons, Joseph Thomas Vignola, Jr. of
Greenwood,
S.C., and Paul Anthony Vignola of Atlanta; and brother, Anthony Vignola
of Log
(sic) Island, NY.; four grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 3, 1997 at 10 a.m. from St.
Francis of
Assisi Catholic Church with Father Tim Gadziala officiating. The following gentlemen served as

Herman Foy, 66, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday August 29,
1997 in
Blairsville.
Mr. Foy was
born October 25, 1930 in Duvall (sic) County, Florida, a son of Herman
Moses
Foy and Leone Norma Watson Foy. Mr. Foy
was a computer systems analyst. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had
been living in this area for the past 1 1/2 years, coming here from
Lilburn,
Georgia. He was a member of Grace
Community Presbyterian Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Betty Jane Foy, of Blairsville; Mother, (sic) Leone
N. Foy,
also of Blairsville; three children: Holly Alison Foy-Hruschka, of
Bellefont,
PA; Belinda D. Foy, of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA; and Melissa P. Foy, of
Columbus, GA;
sister, marvel Goodwin, of Midland, Texas; for (sic) grandchildren:
Marion and
Jackson Foy-Hruschka, and Amber and Autumn Foy.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, September 2, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Dr. Ross Bair officiating. The eulogy was presented by Dr. Donn
smith. Special music was presented by Mrs.
Lo Dykens, Mrs. Carmen Fitton, and Mrs. Maryanne Younger.
Members of the Creaky Critters Softball Team
served as honorary escort to the family.

Mr.
Grady Grizzle, age 80, of Suches, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
September 2,
1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
Grizzle was born in Union County, Georgia on November
11, 1916, a son of Lewis Grizzle and Milberry Jarrard Grizzle. He was a lifelong resident of this area and
was
a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Mr.
Grizzle had been a deacon there for sixteen years.
He was a farmer and worked for the State
Highway Department for many years.
Preceding him in death was a son, John Robert Grizzle and a
daughter,
Sharon Grizzle.
Surviving
are his wife, Lizzie Garrett Grizzle, of the home; daughters, Bertha
Chambers
of Murrayville, GA., Betty Grizzle, Lois Grizzle, and Janell Grizzle,
all of
Suches, Wanda Gilstrap of Cleveland, GA.; sons, Joe Grizzle, Charles
Grizzle,
and Tony Grizzle, of Suches, Ralph Grizzle, Clyde Grizzle, Calvin
Grizzle,
Marvin Grizzle, David Grizzle, all of Cleveland, GA., and Donald
Grizzle of
Hiawassee; sisters, Grapelle Pickelsimer of Suches, Lizzie Carter of
Cumming,
GA. and Grace Abercrombie and Julia Grizzle, both of Blairsville;

Mr.
Harold W. Jones, age 73, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday, September
3, 1997 I Forest Park, Georgia.
Mr. Jones
was born in Graham County, N.C. on November 28,
1923, a son of the late Vadore Jones and Mary Rillie Anderson Jones. He was a veteran of the U.S. army, and served
during World War II. Mr. Jones was
stationed
in the Panama and the Philippines. He
also served in the CCC Camps. Mr. Jones
was preceded in death by his parents, Casey and Rillie Jones and his
wife, Mary
Jo Jones.
Surviving
are two sons, Danny and Randy Jones, both of Florida; sisters, Ida
Jackson,
Hazel Colbert, Lina Seabolt, Polly Henson, all of Blairsville; Ruth
Payne and
Bobbie Low Gentry, both of Forest Park, Georgia; Shirley Moore of
Fayetteville,
GA.; brother, Clyde Jones of Geneva, N.Y.; Rev. Tommy Jones and Jack
Jones,
both of Blairsville; several grandchildren also survive.
