mary ellen jones

 

Mrs. Mary Ellen Jones, age 68, of Ashley Circle Blairsville, passed away on Monday September 4, 2006 following an extended illness.  Mrs. Jones was born on January 11, 1938 in ToombsCounty, GA.  The daughter of the late W.W. Rowland and the late Rosa Alma Rowland.  She retired as a secretary from Texaco Inc. after several years of service.  She and her husband made their home in Blairsville for the past sixteen years moving here from Norcross, GA.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Rowland, a sister, Rosa Lee McNair and a step son, Glenn Jones.  Mrs. Jones was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Jones are her loving husband of thirty seven years, Robert V. Jones of Blairsville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Danny and Sherry Clayton of Chesapeak, VA; Steven Clayton of Canton, GA; step son, Greg Jones of Bainbridge, GA; two step-daughters and one son-in-law, Beverly and Chris Penney, Ellen Foster all of Sarasota, FL; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Edward Rowland of Huntsville, Al, Kenneth and Faye Rowland of Union Point, GA; one sister, Rita Hamilton of Vidalia, GA; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A visitation for family and friends was held on Thursday September 7, 2006 from 1-3 p.m. from the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Lung Association in Mrs. Jones memory.

jean frances esau

 

Mrs. Jean Frances Esau, age 66, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006 at her home.

Mrs. Esau was born Monday, June 3, 1940 in Boston, MA, to the late Gordon MacLeay and the late Hazel Hill MacLeay.  Mrs. Esau had been a resident of Union County for the past 7 years, moving here from Tampa, FL.  She was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: husband, John Esau of Blairsville; daughter, Amy Jean Oliveira of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Kenneth Oliveira, also of Colorado Springs; daughter, Justine McKinney of Foxboro, MA; son, Russell Esau of Abington, Massachusetts; son, Scott Esau of Whitman, MA; and brother, Gordon MacLeay of Massachusetts; six grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Coosa United Methodist Church with pastor Katie Strals officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church Building Fund.

abalee lenor ivester

 

Mrs. Abalee Lenor Ivester, age 81, of US Hwy 76 Hiawassee, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 in the North East GA. Medical center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Ivester was born on Jan. 27, 1925 in Union County, the daughter of the late Chester Dockery and the late Lola Henson Dockery.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen Kenneth Ivester in 2001, and by a brother, Lester Dockery.  She was a life-long member of union and Towns Counties.  She was an avid wood carver and had taught wood carving at the John Campbell Folk School.  One of her favorite past times was crocheting.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.  Everyone who knew her loved her.  Mrs. Ivester was a member of the First Baptist Church of Young Harris.

Surviving Mrs. Ivester are three daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Hugh Berrong of Hiawassee, Pauline and Auldon Tow of Cleveland, GA, Faye and Gerald Horne of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Denver and Norma Dockery of Blairsville, eight grandchildren, Larry Stover, Buck Stover, Terry Stover, Andrea Stover Seabolt, Marty Tow, Marcia Caudill, Robin Collins and Stacey Horne, sixteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Lee officiating.  Special music was presented by Olene and Lewis Dyer and Kathy Allen.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Larry, Buck, Terry and Bo Stover, Kenny and Robin Collins, Marty and Stephen Tow, Derek Caudill, Jeremiah and Aaron Deyton.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening after 6 p.m.

richard a. coddingham

 

Richard A. Coddington, age 58, a resident of Hayesville, NC, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006.  Prior to living in Hayesville, he was a resident of Blairsville, GA, moving there in 2000 from South Bend, IN.

Mr. Coddington was born Sunday, February 22, 1948 in LaPorte, IN to the late Orville E. Coddington and Ruth (Middledorf) Coddington.  He was raised and educated in LaPorte, where he graduated from LaPorte High School.  He then attended Purdue University, in Lafayette, IN.

In 1977, he became the president of the A.B. Coddington Garment Company, Inc., a three generation owned business, in LaPorte, IN.  In 1983, he was the developer and president of the company En-R-Tech Corporation of America, headquarters in LaPorte, IN.  In 1996, he graduated, magna cum laude, from Bethel College, in Mishawaka, IN with a Masters Degree in Theology.  He received Ordination as a Minister through United Christian Ministries International.  He was a member of the Community Christian Church in New Carlisle, IN where he served as youth director as well as assisted in other ministries of the church.

After moving to the South Bend, IN area in 1992, he served as the Senior Adult Sunday School teacher at the Grace Brethren Church of Mishawaka, in Mishawaka, IN.  He worked as the Manager of the Delivery Department at Home Depot, Blairsville, GA from the time of itís opening in 2002, until his illness occurred.  He was also a Christian Counselor for Adults and did some part time Ministry.

He was the beloved husband of Sherry E. (Dickson) Coddington; loving father of Jon F. Oakley and Julia Kristin Oakley-Coddington all of Hayesville, NC; proud grandfather of Jill Marie, Jonathon S. and Jared F. Oakley and the brother of Robert C. Coddington and wife, Nancy, of Chattanooga, TN.
