Mr. Kent Christopher, age 84, of Blairsville, passed away
on Thursday, September 2, 2010 in the Union County Nursing Home
following an
extended illness. Mr. Christopher was
born on Nov. 23, 1925 in Lamar County, GA, the son of the late William
C.
Christopher and the late Laura T. Cooper Christopher. He
was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He
had been living in Blairsville since 1979
and had taught school in Fannin County for several years. Mr. Christopher had attended Harmony Grove and
Pine Top Baptist Churches.
Surviving Mr. Christopher are one brother, John F.
Christopher of Macon, GA, one nephew, many other relatives and friends
also
survive.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday Sept. 8, 2010 at
2 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy
Tanner
officiating. Interment followed in the
Pine Top Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8
p.m.

March 24,
1941 – August 31, 2010: Truman Holtzclaw,
a native of Smyrna, GA, the
son of the late Carl Thomas Holtzclaw and the late Mildred Louise Couch
Holtzclaw Medders, passed over peacefully in the home of a dear friend
in Young
Harris, GA where he was receiving professional, compassionate care from
the
staff of the Regency Hospice Agency. A
long-time resident of Union County, his home was near Lake Nottley dam
(sic).
He is survived by his former wives,
Rosemary Waller Vincent and Vivian Moore Hayes, and four wonderful
children:
Todd and Chris (Charlotte, NC, area), and, Melanie and Jeremy (Anderson
County,
SC), and 13 grandchildren; his brother, Travis (Dewey, AZ);
half-brothers,
Richard Medders (Spokane, WA), Larry Medders (San Francisco), Jeffrey
Couch
Medders (deceased, Atlanta) and Ernie Medders (Atlanta area); former
step-mother, Barbara Ann Powers Holtzclaw McCoy (Roswell, GA), and
half-sisters, Rachel Holtzclaw Casper (Bremen, GA) and Kim Holtzclaw
Lorens
(Dallas, GA).
If you
have fun
memories of Truman to share, please bring them along with photos and
mementos
to a casual memorial gathering in his honor from 1 – 3 p.m., Saturday,
September 25th, at Meeks Park Pavilion at Senior Center, Blairsville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a
donation to the Regency Hospice Agency, Hiawassee, GA, or, the Collins
Springs
Cemetery Association, Smyrna, GA.
While we
mourn for
our father, brother and friend who will fade into our fond memories we
should
be thankful that he lived and that we were among those who were his
family and friends.

Mrs. Dana Nichols McDowall, age 89, of Rich Gap Rd.,
Blairsville, passed away on Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 in the Union General
Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs.
McDowall was born on Feb. 13, 1921 in
Jackson, MS, the daughter of the late Harrod Allen Nichols and the late
Lilla
Dorsey Nichols. She had been living in
Blairsville since 1999 having moved from Lawrenceville, GA. Mrs. McDowall was a member of the GoldStar
Mothers. She was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother and great grandmother. She
was very active in PTA and her church. Her
Son, Francis McDowall Jr. and a brother, Harrod Allen Nichols Jr.
preceded her
in death. Mrs. McDowall was a member of
the Mountain Presbyterian Church of Blairsville.
Surviving Mrs. McDowall are her loving husband, Francis
McDowall of Blairsville, four daughters and three sons-in-law,
Catherine and
Glen Henderson of Blairsville, Susan and Robert Dinwiddie of Monroe,
GA,
Elizabeth and Jim Belcher of Greer, SC, Lucy Wright McDowall of
Blairsville.
seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces,
nephews, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Sept. 25, 2010
at 11 a.m. from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Travis
Adams
officiating. Flowers will be
appreciated. Those desiring may send
contributions to the Mountain Presbyterian Church of Blairsville or to
the
Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church in memory of Mrs. McDowall.

Jacob
Dylan Tallant, age 19, of Morganton,
GA, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at home.
He was born on August 3, 1991 in Blairsville,
GA, to the late Phillip L. Tallant. He
is preceded in death by sister, Amanda D. Tallant (Mandy); niece,
Hailey
Truelove; both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Survivors include his mother, Angela
G. Thomas Tallant of Morganton, GA; sisters, Katrina Wyant, Amanda
Mosher
(Blake) and Misty Manning (Michael); five nieces; three nephews; many
aunts,
uncles and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were conducted
Monday, September 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel
with
Rev. Tully Griggs officiating. Interment
followed in the First Baptist Church of Epworth Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Blake Mosher, Eric Salinas,
Dylan Deveraux, Ryan Jones, George Salinas and Nick Holden. Honorary pallbearer was Brian Baines. The family received friends at the funeral
home on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6
p.m.
until 9 p.m. The family request in lieu
