Mr.
Jim Kelley, age 59, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away early Monday
morning,
September 7, 1998 in Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Kelley
was born on Friday, August 25, 1939, in Union County, Georgia. He was a heavy
equipment operator and owned and operated his own business. Mr. Kelley attended The House of Prayer
Church.
Surviving are
his wife, Susie Gray Kelley of Blairsville; his parents, Mack and
Murner
England Kelly, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Kelley
Hobbs and
Clint Hobbs, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Angie
Kelley, of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Kelley McClure and Jimmy
McClure,
of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Shannon and Brittany Kelley,
of
Blairsville; 5 sisters: Gwen Dillard, and Melva Lynn Patton, both of
Blairsville; Jo Ann mason, Peggy Scott, and Judy Foster, of Dacula, GA;
and
three brothers, jack Kelley, of Duluth; Bud Kelley and Bill Kelley,
both of
Blairsville; 5 grandchildren: Chris, Levi, and Amy McClure, and Kayla
and Julie
Kelley; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 9, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the House of Prayer Church with Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev.
Jerry Helton
officiating. Special music was presented
by Nelson and Mildred LeCroy, Scott Lance, and the House of Prayer
Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Mike Gittens, Coy Youngblood James Burrell, Terry Kane,
Bobby
Kelley, and Mike Patton. The following
gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Wayne Colwell, Jim
Penvel,
Ron DeLong, Jason Garrett, Mike Vaughn, Tommy Lovell, Mitch Patton, and
Fred
gray. Internment was in Kelley Family
Cemetery.

Mr.
Benjamin Jesse Spiva, age 80, passed away late Wednesday night,
September 2, 1998
after a period of declining health. Jess
was born October 10, 1917, the only son James Newton Spiva and Laura
Marinda
Garrett Spiva. He lost his mother
shortly after birth and was reared by his father and Aunt Icy Mae Spiva. HE was lifelong resident of Towns
County. A Mason and a member of Enotah
Baptist Church, he also served as a volunteer with Station 3 First
Department
during his last active years. Jess was a
veteran of World War 11, serving in the 112th Platoon of the US Marines
stationed in San Diego, CA. After the
war he was employed by General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan and them as
a
machinist at Bell Bomber and Lockhead in Marietta, Ga.
For the remaining years, Jess worked as an
electrician and builder in the local area.
Surviving Jess
are his wife of 59 years, Ethel Nicholson Spiva, of the home; two sons:
Bruce
Spiva and Truett Spiva of Hiawassee, GA; four grandchildren: Beth
Dillard of
Blairsville, GA and Greg, John and Curtis Spiva of Hiawassee; one
great-grandchild, Summer Spiva of Hiawassee; and an aunt Mrs. Sally
Spiva and
first cousin, Mrs. Shelby Spiva Pulliam of Calhoun, GA.
Funeral
services were held 2 p.m. Friday, September 4, 1998, at Enotah Baptist
Church,
Hiawassee, with Rev. Willis Garrett and Rev. Clinton Ellis officiating. Pallbearers were: Charles Nicholson, Doug
Nicholson, Ollie Nicholson, Larry Nicholson, Eddie Palmer and Gary
Holcomb. Interment was in the Enotah
Cemetery. Banister

Mr.
Verlin H. Grizzel, age 92, of Liberty, Missouri, formally of
Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 5, 1998 in Missouri.
Mr. Grizzel
was born on Tuesday, February 13, 1906, in Union County, Georgia, a son
of the
late Eldridge Francis Grizzle and Dolly Thomason Grizzle.
He was a retired farmer, and was of the
Baptist Faith. Mr. Grizzel was preceded
in death by his wife, Marguerite Carroll Grizzel, a son, Ralph Grizzel,
and a
daughter, Vivan Helen Grizzel Hood.
Surviving are
his daughters, Geraldine Grizzel Mason, of Dacula, GA; a son, Eugene
Randall
Grizzel, of Liberty, MO; a sister, Della Grizzle Carder, of Suches, and
brother, Arthur Grizzle, also of Suches; 7 grandchildren: Lon Hood,
Lynn Hood
Bariett, Christopher Mason, Gregory Mason, John M. Grizzel, Joel S.
Grizzel,
and Rachel Grizzel carter. Twelve great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren
also
survive, along with a host of friends and other relatives.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 9, 1998 at
11 a.m. from ;the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with
Rev.
Horace Potts and Rev. Guy Bradley officiating.
Special music was presented by Nelson and Mildred LeCroy. The following gentlemen served as

Mr.
Steven Brent Grizzle, age 24, of Blairsville, Georgia,
passed away Thursday, September 10, 1998 in Union county Georgia, from
injuries
which he sustained in a
automobile accident.
Mr.
Grizzle was born on Tuesday, August 6, 1974, in Union
County, Georgia. He was a lifelong
resident of Union County, and was a member of Ivy Log Baptist Church. Brent was a graduate of the class of 1992,
Union Count High School, and was a member of the Blairsville Jaycees
Surviving
are his parents, J.M. and Doris Grizzle, of Blairsville; his sister and
brother-in-law, Shannon and Mike Rice, of South Carolina; paternal
grandparents, Arch and Dorothy grizzle; maternal grandmother, Martha
Fortenberry;
and maternal grandfather, J.P. Payne; all of Blairsville; many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, September 13, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev.
Jerry
Karnes officiating. Special music was
presented
by The Ivy Log Quarter. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Larry Bergen, Joel Payne, Glendon
Gooch, Aaron
Dills, Darin Bridges and Darrell Bridges.
Interment was in Ivy Log Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dr.
Ellington “Dick” Hardin, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of
Clarkesville, Georgia passed away Monday, September 7, 1998 in Union
County,
Georgia.
Hr. Hardin
was born on Saturday, February 2, 1935, in Duvall County, Florida, a
son of the
late Thomas F. Hardin and Reta Harris Hardin.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Dr. Hardin was a retired physician, and he had moved to
Blairsville in
March of this year.
Surviving are
his wife, Gertrude Dobyns Hardin, of Blairsville; five children: Thomas
Hardin,
Gwen Baldwin, Rick Hardin, Jeanne Hill, all of Jacksonville, Florida;
and
Donald Hawthorne, of NY; a brother, Dr. Thomas F. Hardin, of Orange
Park,
Florida; 9 grandchildren also survive.
Memorial
services were held Friday, September 11, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Jean
Prugh,
CSA Minister officiating. Also speaking
at the service was friend and co-worker, Jack Johnston, and family
member
Frances Cudzilo. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests memorials be made to Stephens Co. EMS, Attention Ray
Willis,
2003 Falls Road, Toccoa, Georgia 30577.

Mrs.
Joshie Palmer, age 85, of Suches formerly of Cumming, passed away
Monday,
September 14, 1998. She was the widow of
the late Mr. Ernest Palmer.
Survivors
include, son and daughter-in-law, Kyle (Bill) and Doris Palmer, Suches;
12
grandchildren; several great grandchildren; son-in-law Lloyd Hamby,
Cumming;
sisters-in-law, Viola Reece, Dahlonega, Leona Reece, Dawsonville;
nieces,
nephews and other relatives also survive.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 15, 1998 at Sawnee View Memorial garden with Rev. James McGaha, officiating.
