Mrs.
Gladys Thomas Rogers, age 65, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Sunday,
September 7, 1997 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs.
Rogers was born in Union County, Georgia, on September
21, 1931, a daughter of the late Gordon Thomas and Dessie Beavers
Thomas. She was a homemaker and had lived
in the
Blairsville and Murphy area for all of her life. She
was a member of the House of Prayer
Interdenominational Church.
Surviving
are her husband, Luther Rogers, of Blairsville; daughter and
son-in-law, Linda
and Herbert Kelly of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Barbie and
Jerry
Helton of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Dolly
Rogers of
Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley Rogers of
Blairsville,
and son, Jeff Rogers of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Ellavee
and
Ernest Bolch, and brother and sister in law, Clyde and Betty Thomas,
all of
Gastonia, N.C.; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and
several
nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, September 9, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the House
of
Prayer Church with Rev. Dolly Rogers, Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill
Honaker officiating. Special music was
presented by the House of
Prayer Choir. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Zach Helton, Josh
Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Wesley Kelly, Abraham Patrick, and Bill Dyer. Interment was in the House of Prayer church

Mrs.
Della Bea Brewer, age 68, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
September 7, 1997 at her home.
Mrs.
Brewer was born in Polk County, Tennessee, on July 19,
1929, a daughter of the late Claim Murphy and Essie Payne Murphy. She was a member of Liberty Baptist
Church. Mrs. Brewer had been prec3eded in
death by a daughter, Janie Brewer, in 1951; and her husband, Claude
Brewer, in
1991.
Surviving
are daughter, Judy Burch, of Blairsville, and son, Jerry Brewer, also
of
Blairsville; brothers, Creede Murphy and Willard Murphy, both of Royal
Oak,
Michigan; sisters, Nell Brown, of Ferndale, Michigan, Mae Goodin and
Vina Lea
Boatright, both of Romulus, Michigan; three grandchildren, Vickie
Sisum,
Vanessa Sisum, and Jerri Ann Brewer; four great grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 10, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Liberty
Baptist
Church with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Terrell Jones officiating.
Special
music was presented by Odina Gibson, Iris Conley, and Selma Bradley. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Tony Crowe, Bobby Murphy,
don Murphy, Gary Goodin, James Murphy, and Jimmy Sisum.
Interment was in Liberty Baptist Church

Mrs.
Birdie Mull, age 83, of Nottley Dam Road, Blairsville, GA, died
Wednesday,
September 10, 1997 in an Atlanta hospital.
A native of Fannin County, GA., she had lived in Akron, OH. before moving to Blairsville in 1966. She was the daughter of the late Coot and
Bertha Teague Gilreath and the wife of the late Ralph J. Mull, who died
in
1980. She was a retired inspector with
Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and was a member of the Bethlehem
Baptist
Church in Blairsville.
Surviving
are two sons, Robert Lewis Mull of Blairsville and Charles William Mull
of San
Jose, CA.; and four grandchildren and four
great
grandchildren also survive.
Services
were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 1997 in the chapel of Ivie
Funereal (sic) Home Murphy with Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating. Burial was in Friendship Baptist Church No. 2
Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Thompson
and Mark, Keith and Harry Mull.
The family
requests that memorials be made to Friendship Baptist Church No. 2

Mr.
Walter J. Carter, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
September 9, 1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
Carter was born in Coffee County, Georgia, on February
22, 1917, a son of the late Elbert Carter and Angieline Wood Carter. Mr. Carter had lived in the Blairsville area
for the past sixteen years, coming here from Waycross, Georgia. He was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church and
also was a member of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving
are two sisters, Mary Westberry of Blairsville and Ruby Harper of
Jacksonville,
FL.; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, September 12, 1007 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home Blairsville with Rev. Hughes Chatham officiating. Special music was presented by Junior and
Carolyn Bridges and Patsy Hedden. Serving
as honorary escort to the family was members of the Union General
Hospital
Auxiliary.

Mrs.
Nellie Beatrice. Jones, age 100, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Saturday,
September 13, 1997 following a period of declining health.
Mrs.
Jones was born October 30, 1896, the daughter of James
D. and Kansas Dills Conner. She was the
widow of the late Homer C. Jones.
Surviving
are her daughter, Reva Mae Patterson of Blairsville; a son, Elmo Jones
of
Blairsville; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great
grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Monday, September 15, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the Faith
Baptist
Church with the Rev. James Brock and the Rev. Wayne Matherson
officiating. Interment was in the Duncan Cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Young Harris in
charge of arrangements.
