Mrs. edith geno hughes rich

 

Mrs. Edith Geno Hughes Rich, age 89, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2002 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Rich was born in Hamilton County, Tennessee on Saturday, March 29, 1913, a daughter of the late Burke Hughes and Exona Young Hughes.  She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in the Blairsville area.  Mrs. Rich was preceded in death by her husband Garnett Columbus Rich, who passed away in 2001, and by a grandson, Barry Davis in 1999.

Survivors include her son, Eugene Rich of Blairsville; four daughters, Exola Gates and Leola Lyons, both of Blairsville, Sue Caudill of Kennesaw, GA and Evaline Burkart of Marietta, GA; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 14, 2002 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with family members speaking.  Nancy and Melissa Treece presented the music.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Larue Rich, Eddie Rich, Tim Rich, Shannon Caudill, Matt Caudill, and David Burns.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family, Ronnie Caudill, Frank Burkart, John Harris, Tony Rich, Ernie Sistrunk, and Jeff Sistrunk.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

john ernest england

 

Mr. John Ernest England, age 98, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2002, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. England was born Friday, September 2, 1904, in Union County, Georgia, a son of the late Richard Little England and Mary Jane Elizabeth Prater England.  He was a farmer of cattle and poultry, and lived most of his life in this area.  Mr. England was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  He had been preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Everett England, in 1977.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, LaVerne and Wilson Cobb, of Morganton, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Judson Patten, of Columbus, Georgia; three sisters: Grace Bowers, of Ashland, Ohio; Estell England, of Blairsville, Georgia; and Lucille Cain, of Ringgold, Georgia; two granddaughters and their husbands: Teresa and Steve Ross, of Morganton, and Helen and Dan Stanley, of Blairsville; great grandchildren: Heather Stanley, Luke Ross, Sean Stanley (Johnny), and Jacob Stanley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Guy Bradley and Rev. Joe May officiating.  The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Rufus Everett, Worth Mason, Paul Poole, Tony Burrell, Harold Ingram, Ray Ingram, Johnny Hamby, Roy Smith.  The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Cecil Brewer, Donald Everett, Carlos Ingram, Hoyt Hamby, Worth Plott, and Clifford Mashburn.  Interment will be in New Harmony Baptist church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorials may be made to New Harmony Cemetery Fund, in Mr. Englandís memory.

mrs. eunice l. sullivan swinson

 

Mrs. Eunice L. Sullivan Swinson, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Swinson was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, October 14, 1915, the eldest daughter of the late Francis G. Sullivan and Alice Melinda Souther Sullivan.  She was a homemaker and a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.  Mrs. Swinson lived in the Atlanta area for many years, where she was employed with Hancock Fabrics of Chamblee.  Following her retirement, she moved back to Blairsville in 1980.  She was a resident of Branan Lodge for many years.  Mrs. Swinson was preceded in death by her husband, Vera Thomas Swinson, in 1967, and a brother, Uary Sullivan in 1990.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Melvin R. and Nancy Swinson of Cumming, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Donald G. and Sandra Swinson of Jonesboro, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald G. and Linda Swinson of Blairsville, GA; and daughter, Irma S. Doughty of Kingwood, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Marie Sullivan of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Iva Sullivan of Lilburn, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Mac McCurley of Blairsville; sister, Virginia Reynolds of Blairsville; and sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Neal Kelley of Blairsville; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 15, 2002 at 2 pm from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.   Special music was presented by Mrs. Mindy Combs.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Robbie Swinson, Chuck Swinson, Brad Swinson, Brian Kelley, Gary Swinson, and Charlie Usry.  Interment was in Choestoe Cemetery.  If you wish, memorials may be made in Mrs. Swinsonís memory to The Parkinsonís Foundation.

mr. elmer rudolph tolliver

 

Mr. Elmer Rudolph Tolliver, age 77, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mr. Tolliver was born in Knox County, Tennessee on Monday, March 23, 1925, a son of the late Elmer Theron Tolliver and Trula George Tolliver.  He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Navy.  He had been a policeman in the Atlanta area.  Mr. Tolliver was a graduate of John Marshall School of Law, and was of the Baptist Faith and a Mason.  He had been living in Blairsville since April of this year.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Phillip Theron and Bonnie Tolliver of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Margaret Tolliver of College Grove, Tennessee; two sisters, Judy Burgess of Deland, Florida and Edith Vinson of Tucker, Georgia; and brother, Ralph Tolliver of Deland, Florida; five grandchildren, Bryan Tolliver, Shannon Tolliver, Rachel Vanderboom, Amy Tolliver, and Randall Tolliver, Jr.; a great granddaughter, Heidi Vanderboom, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services are scheduled for Monday, September 23, 2002 at 11 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.
